    I have been using an old copy of Paint Shop Pro for well over 20 years now. I thought it no longer existed. I'm so glad to know that it still exists.

    In çomparison to older versions of paint shop pro are the features the same just more advanced like the eraser? I just purchased Themis version but a bit nervous learning a all new program being a slow learner. I wished my old paint shop pro would work on my current computer but it won't.

      Generally speaking I'd say the fundamental tools are still the same, and new features have just been added over time.

    Of course the first trick is to get your subject to stand in front of a solid color background. In fact, that's really about 80% of the trick!

    • @makeshoppro6408
      @makeshoppro6408  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You highlight an important point. The background eraser is most effective and efficient when dealing with (at least mostly) a homogeneous background. If you have a very complex background, the background eraser would not be the tool of choice.

      @@makeshoppro6408 First of all, Great video and detailed instructions. What suggestions would you have for replacing the sky where portions of the photo have trees with many branches you want the sky to illuminate through? Kind of like making that portion semi transpart. The type of photo I am having problems with is, Spring and Fall where there are no leafs on the trees. I've been fiddiling around changing the new sky to Multiply and reducing the opacity to about 50 or so. This seems to require additional erasing though because the sky's don't always fall on the same horizon.. like on the side of the subject. Any thoughts would be appreciated

    • @makeshoppro6408
      @makeshoppro6408  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jeffbudzisz160 Great question. It's difficult to recommend an approach without an example, but based on my assumptions of what you are asking, you can try adjusting the sharpness of the background eraser, or it may be worth trying a luminance mask (th-cam.com/video/3L7YEQjvoKY/w-d-xo.html)

    Background eraser is good for people, pets, and things. I'm trying to remove the background from text-only images, but it erases the text along with the background, and I'm trying to toy with everything.

    • @makeshoppro6408
      @makeshoppro6408  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The subject needs to have some kind of discernable property from the background for the bg eraser to work. This could be a number of attributes but is often color.

    • @makeshoppro6408
      @makeshoppro6408  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I understand your question, using the background eraser will allow you to modify the hair separate from the background. If you are having issues with 'haloing' you can paint over the subject to modify the hue.

    It is not such a great tool. I tried it with a person with brown hair and a dress with white in it on a white background. Awful ! It whiped out white parts in the dress and so on. I was really looking forward to this 'great tool' but was very dissappointed. So to conclude: there are no such things as 'tools' to do the selection the quick way.

    • @makeshoppro6408
      @makeshoppro6408  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right, the Background Eraser does not work for all situations. Not knowing the specifics of your image, you could try experimenting with the sampling or limits controls. In some cases the background may just be difficult and a more manual approach may be necessary: th-cam.com/video/UXVJuwv7m04/w-d-xo.html
