Jim Carrey Beats Up Owen Wilson | The Cable Guy (1996)
The fact that is looked like Owen Wilson was trying really hard not to laugh the entire time made this 100 times better
Yeah puts up like no fight and he's clearly holding back from cracking up lol
@@chungkingexpress94 I've noticed that too. I've also wondered, how is Owen holding so still when the hot air dryer piece is in his mouth? You'd think you'd see his body twitching and squirming to try and break loose. Even if Carrey's holding him in the tightest grip where Owen absolutely couldn't break loose, you'd still see little twitches and squirms. He must've been almost unconscious by then, because he did seem almost completely knocked out when laying on the floor after that. Or maybe the air dryer thing didn't hurt as much as what Carrey did to him before then, and was just holding still because he was waiting to see what Carrey would do next. But if that air dryer was blowing out air hot enough to burn the insides of his mouth, there's no way he'd be all still and not squirming in Carrey's grip, unless he was nearly unconscious like I said before. I don't know, what do you think?
@@alvexok5523 are you ok dude?
that thing isn't on in reality.
You know what acting means right?
@@CriticalPosthumanism lol!

Nicely done, I give you a 8/10.
Jim Carey was a straight up legend of 90s comedy... The Mask, Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber, Cable Guy, Liar Liar...
The END SCAT! GETS ME EVERY TIME!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💩💩💩💩
DUDES A COMEDIC GENIUS
@billclemons5593 what are you talking about?
Dont forget Liar Liar!
He was huge in the 90's he really had a big run he was on top of the world 🌍 for a while there
20 dollars was a bribe back when this movie came out. What a time to be alive.
I was looking hard at that like...did my man really just risk his job for $20?!
@@aychbhomas6608 ain't risked at all cause no witnesses
would've been worth about $38 today
@@aychbhomas6608 I thought that was a $50 he gave him
Looked like $1
How Carrey just slides under the stall door and appears right behind Wilson gets me every time.
The sound effect doesn't make it any easier to not laugh
Batman status
Apparently, Chris Farley was originally going to be the Cable Guy. Can you imagine him doing that?
"It's no trouble, really..." 😂
And he does it so quickly, smoothly, and quietly. Owen didn't even know he did it until he stood up right behind him and started talking.
Owen Wilson was laughing the whole time while getting beat up lmao
Cracked me up that did 😂
Was he??? I couldn't tell...
@@user-zx1ir7jt4c me too
I noticed that. They were having fun.😂
With the powder to the face and the hair spray
It's actually kind of scary how good the Cable Guy's hand-to-hand fighting skills are.
It's just a movie role.
in the canon of the film, he probably learned fighting by watching so many action films
Hand to cock fighting skills
@@christianhackl474 Really? You sure? 😜
@@christianhackl474 Wow, what a take. You're some sort of genius.
Jim Carrey is such a great actor.... He can be funny and then creepy/eerie
He’s dressing up like Freddie mercury
Me, Myself, & Irene is great for him being all over the place. "How's it hangin', fellas?"
And he can also somehow be both at the same time 🤣
Then can be just a joke and waste like in this movie. Brilliant 👏🏼
No he’s really diverse actually. Check him out in the trueman show!
The funniest part of this scene is that Chip didn't even need to beat him up. The woman figured out very quickly that he was a douchebag and the date would have likely ended there.
He wasn’t beating him up……he was helping him look his best for his big date *snaps fingers*
Owen's character was a jerkass, the way he talked to the waiter
@@r3b3lvegan89 Haha, lol.
It was a bad beating though when Carrey slammed Owen's body into the wall and then gave him a couple of hard kidney punches, and that eyebrow yanking thing looked to hurt like hell. I'm not sure if the blowdryer in his mouth hurt as much because he was holding so still while Carrey held him there. If the air from the blow blowdryer was hot enough to burn the inside of his mouth, you would've seen alot of twitching as he was unsuccessfully trying to break loose. But there's no way you can endure that kind of burning pain and not twitch and squirm, and one would be able to see that twitching and squirming no matter how tightly you're held in place, you just wouldn't be able to break loose. Now the punches and the wall slam before that sure hurt him like crazy but those weren't happening while he had the airdryer piece in his mouth.
@@alvexok5523have the eggs had a chance to hatch yet? 😂
Owen couldn't help but smile lol
He's like a cartoon character come to life. Brilliant... I've said it before and I'll say it again, Jim Carrey's a comedic genius !
He sure was. Loved him in all his movies in the 90's
Good analogy 😂
Kind of like who framed Roger rabbit.
the mask!
The guy in charge of the digital VFX for the Mask said the job was made so much easier because of Jim Carrey. He has all these exaggerated movements and poses its like he's straight out of a Loonney Toons episode.
Owen wilson sounds and talks like a rich kid from texas with a university degree 😂😂
Throughout this beatdown you can see Owen Wilson trying his best not to laugh and I can understand why 🤣🤣🤣
The Slap In The Face With The Powder Sponge Is What Did It For Me 😂🤣😂🤣
The best 😂
The look on his face right before he wacks him is pure art!
Make sure to capitalize every word.
And the trumpet noise
It looked like Owen Wilson was gettin an ass whoopin by one of the village people 😂🤣😂
Okay but imagine being told your whole characters purpose is to be beaten up by Jim Carey.
I wouldn’t mind but it would be a challenge since carry would make you laugh the whole time lol
I would be more than honored
" I'll be totally thrilled!😂😂😂 It's Jim Carrey for goodness sake."!!!
Isn't it ironic.
This film came out neatly 30 years ago.
But look how it reflects our society today.
Jim Careys character is actually an INCEL......
Like so many of the guys today, no social circle, glued to the screens, atomised, lonely, not in a relationship, and seeking community/friendship and somewhere to belong.
Matthew Brodicks character had to hook up with a sex worker after his relationship broke down, he had limited options, like a lot of guys today.
But look how many options his love interest had and how many dates she had in the film.
What do you think?
Wow lol, regarding your comment. I didn’t think about it that deeply, nor compare Chip Douglas or Steven Covacs to modern guys today.
All I kinda thought was more that Chip (Jim Carrey’s character) was a weird Sociopath with mommy issues.
But your comment is pretty depressing dude. 🤷🏻♂️
Fun Fact: Owen Wilson was already a great admirer of Jim's he knew he did improv really well, so he told Jim to throw away the script and let him do whatever he wanted to him.
Yeah ok liar
Fun Fact: Owen Wilson shot that scene, he was friends with the director. Jim Carrey later recalled Owen Wilson was his best co-star.
@@jean-claudechucklee7911 Fun Fact: Facts are fun.
Fun fact: Ben Stiller was the director of this film. AKA Derick Zoolander.
Fun Fact: Everything you read on the information super highway is true and accurate.
Jim Carrey is a real madman here. Brilliant!
The way the hostess looked at him, and then that guy at the bar, they both looked at him as if he looked like a total weirdo.
One of the most under rated movies/comedies. Jim Carrey at his best. And Ben Stiller did an amazing job creating this epic comedy!
It was pretty dark. Had psychological thriller elements. Not just a plain comedy.
Lmao “psychological thriller elements” dude the entire movie is giant parody of tv mania itself. It’s trolling people who take tv and movies too seriously and miss being entertained. Ben Stiller directed it his entire family is comedians. Sheesh
It's a brilliant movie. Certainly one of the best comedies of the 90s.
@@r3b3lvegan89 he's just saying its a darker comedy than what is typical... sheesh, comprehend much?
F-king A-men!
Jim Carreys best and probably most underrated film in my opinion.
Back in the 90s people hated this and said it nearly killed his career, and now people are celebrating it as the dark comedy classic it is.
@@OrochiFlamez Most people I’d spoken to about it had never heard of it. I think it’s better than some of his most praised roles.
True... It is sheer genius. So many hilarious parts. Matthew Broderick is a fantastic supporting actor too.
@@OrochiFlamez I always loved this movie not sure what everyone's problem was lol yeah it was darker than most of his other films but he wasn't dancing around with 🐧 🐧 in this one lol
Agreed. I can’t believe people didn’t like it. It’s my favorite Jim Carrey comedy.
I swear Jim looked like Freddie murcury. He could have been him in a movie based off queen
nah..... Sacha Baron Cohen is 100% likeness....
The point is Jim pulls off looking like Freddie here and his character isn’t even supposed to be him. But yes Sasha is amazing too
@@r3b3lvegan89 That's probably why he chose this look, to look like Freddie Mercury. He did look weird though when placing himself among others in the 90s, the hostess and that guy at the bar seemed to be able to tell that something's wrong with him. And their intuitions were correct considering what he did. The real bathroom attendant also looked like he could tell something's wrong with him, but it's sorta surprising that he accepted Chip's money and left without questioning him, or getting the manager. Unless that attendant was new and he thought that Chip was one of the supervisors there.
The scat-beat in the bathroom is one of the funniest scenes in movie history. 🧂🥜
Squeedap!! SQUEEDAP! 😂
Thalt peanuthhh thalt peanuthhhhh
Salt peanuts salt peanuts 😂😂 thats Jim Carey improv at it’s best
I like how he licks his thumb and wipes that guys face and tells him to enjoy his meal. And the guy walks away happily saying thank you

I remember learning about that song in elementary school and I was like 👈🏽 “Yo that’s the cable guy bathroom beating song”.
😂😂😂😂
That's actually pretty funny lol
Even Owen Wilson couldnt help it, he smiIed, it was too funny.
The most demanding aspect of Owen's acting in this scene was not breaking character. You can see him dying to laugh throughout the whole thing even though he's getting trounced
Jim is authentically, inheritently, genuinely & totally funny...!
What is arguably the funniest thing here is that Robin doesn't seem satisfied at all with her date. It would probably have ended on a bad note for her regardless of Chip's beatdown of him.
Got his azz beat and he wasn't even gonna get anywhere with her.
He is such a douche nozzle, and the way he talked down to the poor server 😂😂😂
jim's best movie when he was in his prime hands down. carrey's sudden counterattack combo when owen strikes to hit him 😂
All of Jim Carrey's films of this era were out-of-the-park classics. For me, it is hard to pick a favorite. Maybe it is this movie, Ace Ventura, or The Mask.
Right after watching this movie back in high school I used to randomly walk through the hallways exactly like this 00:08 to get to the next class lol
I never understood the hate for the movie at the time. It was great then, and still great today!
It wasn’t hated. This movie wasn’t the flop as alot of people would have you believe it was… it is true that people were uncomfortable with it when it first came out in 1996. But people love it especially these days, I hear nothing but positive reviews about it
NOONE on this planet could have done this character except Jim Carey!! If he had turned down the part, they would have had to abandon the project! In my opinion his finest work ever.
Can you believe this was trashed by critics in the 90s???
Kevin Klein would have done just as good a job.
@@ministryoftruth8588 disagree. He's have done a good job but not the LEGENDARY job JC did..
Yup, that’s why they paid Jim $20 million and Matthew only $2 million to be in a movie that cost $47 million to make.
let's not forget that Jim got 20M for this film which no actor or actress at the time was getting for movies....he set the bar for the other heavies at the time.
"And a touch of Alfalfa" 😂
I still would've like to have seen a version of this movie with Ben Stiller playing Matthew Brodrick's character. Man, just imagining it makes me laugh with Stiller's nervous and polite awkwardness even though MB still did excellent.
SQUIDUP! SCOODIDUP!
I was 14 when I saw this and I laughed my ass off...iam 41 and it still makes me laugh...great comedy movie
That ain’t Jim Carrey, that’s D.B. Cooper

It's amazing to me that this movie is hated by so many. It is comedy gold.
It was at the time. People have grown to like it as time goes on
People disliked it because it was too dark for Jim Carrey. The movie had psychological thriller elements too.
Oh yeah, i think I was 18 when I watched it and I hate it. It was so off-putting.
Love this movie! Jim Carey was on fire in the 90s!

Every time I use a public restroom in the winter I think of this line “the winters are remarkably mild” 😂
I can’t stop laughing at this! 😂🤣🤣🤣
This can be a perfect "The Joker Origins" story too. 😂❤ what a performance!!!!
What makes this scene even more interesting is that it gives a glimpse of what the cable guy is actually thinking going through the deeds. The music that is playing during this entire scene is actually playing in his head while he’s doing it in real time, hence the snapping and his vocals lining up with the beat in the background. It’s a deeply thought through scene with the music, made even better with the crazy improv skills of Jim Carey. Jim Carey’s physical acting is simply the icing on the cake that sells how insane the cable guy is.
How did Jim’s character know that Owen’s character would actually get up and use the bathroom while Jim was in there?? Doesn’t make any sense and is too contrived.
