- Valve President Gabe Newell discusses the importance of the Steam Deck's price and its development. This is only a portion of our full interview with Newell, which will be published later this month along with even more Steam Deck coverage.
The Steam Deck, is a handheld gaming PC with a form-factor similar to that of a Nintendo Switch. No hard release date has been given, but the Steam Deck has a launch planned for Holiday 2021, with a pre-order reservation system launching in the near future. The price starts at $399, with models that have more storage at $529 and $649 as well.

That only works on a closed system. Who to say someone would not install Epic or other stores ? You're just putting money into other peoples pockets from your hard work.

Cmon man this steam deck is better than my real pc, really worths it.
Especially at current time with the GPU pricing, Steam deck might be the better choice compared to budget gaming pc build. Also you can plug the monitor and all other stuff (wich is the choice for me)
Technically, you are gaming on this at 720p. So this is not exactly cutting edge in that sense. Certainly decent, but not great!

Besides, once you have the console, you still need to buy games for it. Because most consoles sold will not make much profit, even at a loss, they will sell games at full retail to recoup the losses.

The big advantage Valve has over other companies who focus on making PC-handheld gaming devices, is the possibility to sell their device at a loss since the main revenue will come from the game sells on the store they own. A lesson learned from the three console makers.

I'm very curious about the specs on this thing and how the games will affect the battery life on it. This could be either really great or fall very hard depending on how they manage things.

Yea, this pretty much eliminates any chance of Microsoft entering the handheld market, since Gamepass can be used on the Steam Deck.
It looks like Valve and Nintendo will be the only players in the handheld market for the foreseeable future.
