    Probably my favorite fight in the franchise. Aizawa doesn't have any grudge against Kiryu or ill will, he just wants the title. And it turns into two dudes just straight up beating the crap out of each other. This is the definition of a final boss fight. Just two men in a pure fist fight to the death.

      In my opinion, half the satisfaction of a good final boss is the motivation and emotional payoff of the characters involved. A final boss is the best when you care about the combatants, when you've experienced their hardships, when you understand their personal reasons for wanting to hurt each other. There is almost no connection here, and so this boss kind of falls flat for me. However, the music and the action is phenomenal.

    Many say that Aizawa is very weak, and gameplay-wise he really is, but I think that the theme of the finale is that Kiryu is giving him a test, and it's logical that they should go all out on each other, that's why almost every heat move works in this fight. Aizawa is a tank, so he can take all the damage like this. It's not like in the other Yakuzas: in every other one Kiryu is mentally preparing for the fight, or has to fight to save someone. Here he just realises that Aizawa is pursuing nothing but the Legend status, so it's another thing entirely. Ryuji doesn't count because he already had a badass reputation and just wanted to erase the competition

    Ah, young Aizawa. He wanted to be the very best, like no one ever was, to beat Kiryu was his real test, I don't know what to put here. A little disappointed in his motivations but I guess that's his character. He's a bit of a whiner, he seems to believe that people with a natural talent get everything they want without having to strive for it and seeks to break that by beating Kiryu with nothing but raw strength and establish himself as the strongest. Kiryu confirms that he's half right, that although those with talent do have it easier, no ones ever made it Scott free. Two clashing ideals, Aizawa with: Beat the best become the best. And Kiryu with: No one gets to skip to the end, there are walls you have to break through first.
    And so begins the most unexpected final boss fight in the yakuza series yet.

      Well for the good and the bad this is how it usually goes in this series. Unless you're popular or relevant enough you won't appear in next entries. And sometimes that isn't even enough. Shinada wasn't mentioned at all in 6, for example. Characters like Arai, Kido or the Okinawa crew are Mia as well.
      If he's lucky enough Aizawa might return in a future game or something, but I doubt it.
      Honestly I'd like him to return, maybe he isn't the best character or something but idk, I always saw potential in him. Him returning even as a final boss or antagonist would make sense, considering his story and motivations. 1

    (My opinion on why Aizawa's cool, again, my opinion, but please respect it. Happy safe zone here, kids.)
    So the whole thing with Aizawa is like a left turn at the 11th hour, where the nothing character turns out to be a something character near the last minute. People are saying that Aizawa is the WEAKEST boss in the series; perhaps partially because of this plot twist final battle, but let's take what he has as opposed to doesn't have.
    + 1. Aizawa, despite his sucky status as early boss for Saejima and Kiryu, comes back after having killed his friend and associate, in a power-driven lust. We don't see weak characters become cool often in Yakuza, and I enjoy this personally.
    2. Aizawa managed to beat all the Tojo patriarchs without a scratch. THIS IS PRETTY BIG. He has the sword, but no evidence of using it (no blood on the blade, probably just tryin to look like a cool guy). This means that he must be at least a little worn out from fighting some of the Tojo clan's top men when he fights Kiryu.
    3. Just take a second. Appreciate that health bar.
    All 7 of those bars.
    ...
    Did you? Yes? Good. No, because you can perform *EVERY MOVE CONCEIVABLE* on him and drop that hp so quickly? Fair. But realize that 1st of all, Kiryu is the most experienced in this game than he has been EVER. All of his moves are at their peak, his technique is maximum. So of course he'd be doing multiple bars with that Essence of the Dragon King.
    Aizawa is still young; but ambitious, like Kido in the 4th game. Unlike every other final boss, he is so tenacious that he has 7 HEALTH BARS (not including the healin factor). No other boss has ever been as determined to beat Kiryu.
    4. Rationale. All final bosses want to fight Kiryu for different reasons. Nishiki wants to settle his old feud with Kiryu, Goda wants to kill off the competition for the title of Dragon, and Mine wants to beat Kiryu at what they both do best to show Kiryu that he isn't the strongest. (Daigo kinda whatever, money blech). Aizawa, is again, a good parallel to Kido. They both had an opportunity to become some of the strongest men in the Yakuza. To do so, they had to fight the current champions, and both lost. Aizawa, however, suffers some of the most BRUTAL damage in the fight (head slammed into ground from 2nd story for an example) and the fight STILL continues, showing his determination to win.
    5. This is the last one, don't worry.
    Aizawa suffered, like his dad.
    A LOT.
    He killed his own friend.
    He trained endlessly in secret.
    He has become more powerful more quickly than ANYBODY in the series.
    All to take the king of the hill and dethrone him.
    You can say what you want about Kiryu being weakened for this fight or whatever, but the GAMEPLAY directly contradicts you. You don't have less maximum hp. You don't get damaged more when Aizawa causes your wound to re-open. You just fight him normally, until you are both almost beaten to DEATH.
    yeah.
    rant.
    (he's a better fight than shibusawa at least idgaf what u say)

      @actionguy123 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +TheBuuOfYou yes by gameplay and story integration you're right, Aizawa had drive and talent, but thats not just enough to win, while the character is interesting and sympathetic , i feel that someone else could be the final boss for story climatic reasons. i still got your point and your right in your arguments.
      In fact all bosses in RGG are interesting and difficult in their own way, but Nishiki and Ryuji stuck more with me, Nishiki for being the first and for fighting the way he did, i sincerely wasn't expecting him to throw furniture at me, activate QTES when i was on the ground, or hitting hard as he did, even with a maxed out character.
      Ryuji in the other hand was HARD, it was like fighting against yourself, i never got to win that last fight with the liferbar half full and the inventory with some healing items left.

    • @shodai69
      @shodai69 8 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      +TheBuuOfYou He actually has 9 health bars. It got kind of confusing because all of the upper bars are shades of blue or purple.I think every final boss had something to offer. Nishiki had true narrative weight in his fight and the whole game led up to it. Ryuji's had probably the coolest finale overall, with the multiple fights and big reveal. Mine probably is still the hardest in the series gameplay wise. Diago was interesting and at least we were waiting for a rematch since yakuza 2. This fight was long, brutal, and intense. Aizawaw was unexpected but he didn't disappoint. He put up a hell of a fight but Kiryu can't be stopped! Actually I think Seajima might be the closest to actually beating Kiryu.

    Kiryu saw from the beginning that Aizawa wasn’t ready to take his Legend.
    Aizawa’s entire arc was one of privilege, being primed to take the position of chairman by his father, and yet all Aizawa really wanted was to surpass Kiryu. But by seeing Kiryu wounded and bleeding out, and choosing to fight anyway instead of waiting until they were on equal footing, he shows Kiryu that he doesn’t have what it takes to surpass the Dragon. Because a true Dragon like Kiryu wouldn’t need to prey upon someone weakened by their injuries in order to solidify their place at the top, whereas Aizawa consistently utilizes every shortcut given to him in order to fast track his own ascent up the food chain.
    He doesn’t put in the work. He doesn’t overcome the challenges that make men like Kiryu, Saejima, and Watase who they are. His dream, for lack of a better word, was making it to the top, but doing so by riding an elevator built by his father.
    Kiryu was willing to fight Aizawa in spite of his injuries. Aizawa was willing to fight Kiryu’ *because* his injuries granted him the upper hand. And that’s ultimately why he loses.

    What desmistifies Aizawa as a final boss and takes away all the magic, is knowing that, whatever he did to earn the final boss slot he STILL got kicked around twice on the game earlier, unlike the other bosses who you actually didn't know what they could do.
    Nishiki was something perfect because up to that point in the game no other enemy could do the things he did, and everything you could do, he also could. he was also the first antagonist to have a Heat aura.
    Ryuji Goda was a hyped up battle from the start, and delivered, in sheer intensity and difficulty, the game was letting you know that he wasn't holding back.
    Mine was hard to beat, not as Ryuji but he sure was able to be the ultimate challenge of that game.
    4 was perfect for everyone involved
    and 0 is one of my favourites final fights of the franchise.
    The fight with Aizawa was great and intense, but i think tit could be someone else other than him.

    • @Harakengard

      Personaly, i would seriously argue about 4: i have a big problem with his build and my feeling about the final bosses suffer from that.
      Arai was interesting and the fight was pretty damn good, nothing really bad to say about this fight even if i could be nithpicking about the build of the fight (by far the best final boss of the game to me.)
      Kido was cool but i think the fight in itself could have been so much better.
      Daigo was.... meh. I mean, i have no problem with him being of the final boss but i thought the build of the fight was pretty bad and although the fight in itself is nice, i felt nothing during that fight.
      Munakata was a special case: the build was good, i definitly felt something during that fight.... but man, i thought that the fight in itself was pretty boring and i thought that was one hell of disappointing final fight.
      I also thought that it could have been someone else than Aizawa but then i read comment on the internet that actually changed my mind about him: sure he isn't the best final boss in the serie but he was actually the one that fits the most with Yakuza 5 and his message about dreams (and even thought that the buid could have been so much better, i actually felt something.)

    - took a beating by some randoms in part 1
    - got "killed" by Morinaga
    - Appears like a RKO outta nowhere, and took a beating by a random boxer
    - Took a beating by Saejima
    - goes after the corpse of Morinaga (what??)
    - appears as the final boss so Kiryu can have a final boss. Even Yokoyama plays with the audience with that "what are you doing here Aizawa?" "I'm not so sure myself. Let's have a fight and i promise i'll never appear again".
    Aizawa's writing is so bad that it's good. I'll never touch Y4 and Y5 ever again tho.

    Aizawa losing to a injured Kiryu is worse than Iwami losing to a Kiryu he was beating up for five minutes straight.

      Tbf his wound was for the most part healed at the beginning and kiryu was high on adrenaline. Near the end yeah his wound reopened but Aizawa was basically at the end of his tether and neither had much left in them.

      @@HarmonySword Kiryu was in worst shape in 6. Kiryu could barely fucking stand. Plus he was older.
      Iwami was a joke lol. Kiryu literally calls him a baby

    • @HarmonySword
      @HarmonySword 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ldking5132 Thing is though of course Iwami is supposed to be a coward and a weakling. Aizawa is supposed to be this tough badass and he still lost to a heavily injured Kiryu even after Kiryu fought some nooks earlier. Plus Kiryu didn't have that much time to rest between getting shot and going to the final battle with the others.

    When I first ran into this fight I was like ehh so what Kiryu has fought before with an injury like that. Then I realized ohh right the last time that happened his opponent also had similar injuries. Shit this might be an issue.
    Though Kiryu perseveres like the almighty dragon he is!

    Thinking about it, I can imagine how much of the tension would be lost if The Battle for Dream (boss fight music) was swapped with GET TO THE TOP.
    I think it'd fit though.

    6:11 I just realized this cutscene was reused in kiwami when you fought nishiki

    • @kurosakikun96
      @kurosakikun96 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Makes sense, Kiwami was kinda noted for reusing assets for pretty much everything (so was 0 to an extent, but more for fighting styles), so using animations and fight choreography would be very easy to apply to the game
