Blanc Noir I’m not at 5 yet but the main conflict in 4 is not because of Daigo either. It was the corrupt commissioner working with Ueno Seiwa. They twisted Daigo’s arm. Poor boy inherited the Tojo Clan at its worst time is all.

I truly feel bad for Mine. His whole childhood he had nothing and no one. Wanting everything he couldn't have was all that kept him going. And when he eventually got it, it wasn't enough. He could have everything he wanted, and he bought it all, but he always wanted more and more. Deep down he was trying to compensate for his loneliness by buying all of the stuff he ever wanted as a kid to make himself happy, but it couldn't buy what he NEEDED: to be loved. Eventually he forgot why he became successful in the first place, and only focused on wanting. His money corrupted him accidentally. That's beyond depressing

Kiryu however had Nishiki by his side, as well as Patriarch Kazama, Kashiwagi... Mine had no one. Mine is, along with Nishiki, another evil counterpart to Kiryu: both were orphans, and stoic people along with being powerful fighters, hell, both joined the Yakuza too, along with having similar draconic tattoos.
But where Kiryu joined the Yakuza out of the desire of making Kazama proud, Mine joined for money and power, and where Kiryu is empathetic towards others, Mine is cold and distant to everyone except Daigo.
So yes, Mine is what Kiryu could have easily became if he didn't have Kazama, Yumi and Nishiki at his side and if he was not loved at all.

**Spoilers ahead for yakuza 3** I can easily say after finishing this story Mine was an awesome villain. He was scary, calculated, and strong. So much so that after the fight Kiryu was bleeding and gasping for air, something that you don't see often in his final boss battles. Also the song in the background (Fly) really hit because it's the same theme that played when Rikkiya was dying. And when you finally beat Mine the music switches to a Piano esc version of it. 18:23 I feel like that meant that you fulfilled your promise to Rikkiya which was and I quote " Don't let Mine win." Yakuza is a very underrated series in my opinion!

Other then the Jingu and his 2 slaves boss fight (haven't played 2 either), I consider this to be the boss fight that gave me the most trouble. When he rages up and the aura goes around him, can't be stunned and his hits/combos hit like a dam truck. I've also never seen Kiryu drop to his knee after a fight gasping for air. I mean... Kinda, but we also can see how dangerous he was despite not knowing a lot from him:
1.-He killed Kanda and showed his head to Kiryu and the rest
      2.-Let Tamashiro destroy Morning Glory
3.-And we also see his speech about how the orphanages Kiryu raised doesnt deserve to live
This is mostly a build-up to its climax and character arc. It isnt a necessarily bad thing, since the rest of the game was focused on Okinawa/Ryudo family, Kanda and the Chinese mafia, and a lot other of subplots. I think Mine got a really good screen-time in the end and had an amazing performance as the main villain. Top 2 along Nishiki, no doubt.

It's understandable this battle isn't as stylish as some future final battles because this was just the third game and at the time this was the coolest shit we have seen, while in 6 it feels like a step back after Yakuza 0's final battles. But who knows maybe after Yakuza 6 gets released in english a lot of people will change their opinions

    • @devilleon7
      @devilleon7  6 ปีที่แล้ว +71

      *SPOILER ALERT FOR YAKUZA 6*
I think 6's final boss was much more of a threat than Mine ever was. All Mine did was order the destruction of the orphanage, but killing Rikiya was purely a coincidence that happened by Tamashiro and not Mine. On the other hand, we have 6's final boss who:
1 - Manipulated people around him, including his own *father,* and it doesn't stop there, he also killed him without hesitation.
2 - We find out that the police officer that arrested Majima and Saejima in the beginning works for Iwami, later in the game, he goes to Toto Hospital to get Haruka, where he kills a police officer if I remember right and shoots Date in the process as well. (EDIT: That police officer, Honjo, turns out to be clueless about Iwami's schemes, he was just ordered by a higher up who was tipped by Iwami to bring back Haruka because Honjo was told that she was illegally taken away, so he believed it since he's an honest cop, and afterwards two cops with him shot him dead, this is worse than what I thought happened before playing the English release.)
3 - He is the only villain who dared to directly hold not only Haruka, who is already precious enough to Kiryu, but also her infant son, right before Kiryu's very eyes, and Kiryu couldn't afford to do anything but endure the hatred-filled beatings that were about to approach.
4 - In gameplay, he can drain your HP really quick if you're not careful enough, you have to dodge right and avoid getting grabbed by him.
And there's probably details that are more in-depth that i'm not aware of because I don't 100% understand the game yet, but those should give you something to think about. Iwami is vile, utterly, and completely, from bottom to top, and I really like that about him. You don't see many of them in Yakuza, especially one that went as far as he did. Not even Shibusawa was this despicable.

*SPOILER ALERT FOR YAKUZA 6 AHEAD*
You're definitely right about Mine and Iwami essentially very similar in terms of boss structure, but for me, I think Mine succeeds where Iwami stumbles a bit because Mine FELT a lot more powerful. Not to mention we had a scene of him tearing Kanda, a boss who I had a decent amount of trouble with my first playthrough (didn't have Essence of Self-destruction at the time) about five new assholes with just a few punches. Iwami really didn't have a lot of scenes that established him as a powerhouse fighter, but more so as a cold, calculating mastermind who orchestrated a near-perfect scheme to take over the Tojo Clan. So basically, Mine FELT a lot more powerful than Iwami did to me, which was reinforced by Kiryu's flavor text for the final battle "He is nothing to me". That being said, I still appreciate the final boss, as it was terrifying and enthralling to see Kiryu in full cold-blooded murder mode, not to mention we get to drive home a major sticking point in the entire series: Guile doesn't mean a damn thing if you can't back it up with your fists.

Kartik Ayysola I mean sure but I think Iwami is a bit stronger than Mine but if Mine lived and kinda switched sides then by 6 he’d be stronger than Iwami same goes for Rikiya because they’d have more experience than Iwami not to mention Rikiya would be around Mine’s age by the time 6 rolls around if certain events didn’t happen

    • @kartikayysola

@@aceshotz5051 perhaps he is, but to me, feeling stronger and actually being stronger are two different things. I always wondered whether Mine was the strongest Yakuza final boss in the Kiryu saga or not. When we think about the scene right before the fight begins, Kiryu looks a bit less confident on beating Mine than what we see against Nishiki, Daigo, Aizawa and Iwami. Maybe Goda could compete with Mine, but, while I played Yakuza 2, it really looked to me like Kiryu was a 100% sure he was capable of beating Goda. Well, maybe it's just an impression, or maybe it's because the post-fight scene can make you believe the fight against Mine was tighter than it actually was.

  • @SulfurBoride
    @SulfurBoride 6 ปีที่แล้ว +46

I sort of wonder why the devs of the series left really noticeable inconsistencies between the animations at the end of some of the final bosses that ALWAYS play out, and the following cinematic, such as here, when Mine is all tired out and attempts to throw one last punch at Kiryu before he collapses to the ground in the in-game cutscene, then in the subsequent ending cinematic, he's suddenly standing and then falls to his knees before laying out on the ground.
A more recent inconsistency would be when at the end of Yakuza 0, in the final QTE when you beat down Shibusawa on the boat's railing and knock him out, they're both near the railing in the in-game animation before the cinematic, but afterwards, you can see that they're nowhere near the railing and that Kiryu and Shibusawa's positions are more in the middle of the platform.

Mine simply was given a lot more screentime compared to Y6's final boss, who remained in the background until his true colors were revealed. We got to know Mine as a character from the very beginning so the fight with him had a lot more build-up. There's also the fact that the fight with Mine is significantly tougher and longer than the fight with Y6's final boss, who can be beaten easily if you didn't impose handicaps on yourself when leveling up. From a gameplay perspective, the gravity of the final battle feels a lot more palpable in Yakuza 3.

This is still one of the best final bosses in the series. It's so tightly designed and full of surprises. The versatile and super strong styles make you have to play smart. I loved Yakuza 6, but I don't think any of the bosses came close to being as well designed as Mine-San. The last incredible bosses were in 0 (though Majima and Nishiki did kick ass in Kiwami). The room you fight Nishiki in the millennium tower is still one of the best locations I've ever seen for a boss fight. It's simple, but layered and works so well for a one on one Ryu Ga Gotoku confrontation. The only one that beats it for me is the ship you fight Shibusawa on. I like the multiple phases and layout switches.

@devilleon7 I think I know why I still have a shall we say lesser opinion of 6's final boss if you're willing to hear me out :), you see I started with OG 2 when I was a kid and then years later picked up with 1, 3 & 4 and when I finally reached 3 and got to Mine on Ex-Hard the pain and difficulty of 3's Ex-Hard combined with Gauntlet after boss into Mine was a sort of final trials and tribulation and to be greeted with a Boss who we keep seeing during the course of the game who is bitter with how everything in his life has turned out crack and hate a man like Kiryu who takes the burden from everyone else, when we're revealed this and his new lust for power I felt some sympathy and empathy towards his character and then boom, fight has started and now I'm facing Mine a man who throws everything he has at Kiryu with his multiple fighting styles and regen health and he does this to prove to Kiryu and himself that he is right and that his bitterness is justified and when you finally beat some sense into his ass it's over, the slog and fatigue are done, now why I had some gripes with 6's isn't because I thought it was stupid or that it didn't have an emotional impact on me, it did, the concept of Kiryu powerless and being beaten to a pulp was great and gripping but Koshimizu pulled me in more because he got his hands dirty already and still remained a coward towards the finale, I had a real sense of hatred towards him and when he pussies out and can't fight one on one at the end is great, it made me want to put him down for what he did but yet I still had some respect for him as I had fought him once before and knew what he was capable at and that he was the one who performed the act (LEAVING OUT WHAT HE DID CAUSE SPOILERS), back to 6's final, see I wanted to crush his ass for being a cowardly asshole and I got satisfaction out of that but I felt he did not deserve the strength he had at the end as he had never shown to dirty his own hands and so each time I fight him I feel like I'm fighting a spoilt child (which he is tbf) but it detracts from my enjoyment BECAUSE if the fight was more about Kiryu almost unable to stand upright after being beaten senselessnfighting someone pathetic it would've been very gripping, to refuse to lose to this coward who has taken every advantage from Kiryu and try and take the glory of defeating The Dragon of Dojima without earning it, that was TOO LONG and winded but that's my thoughts and opinions on 6's boss, I just felt he didn't deserve his strength for the fight or to justify it have Kiryu incredibly weakened so as to show us why he is a hard opponent in our condition, if ya read this Sal lemme know if any of my argument is wrong or can be seen in another light ;)

TBH the way they setup the final boss of Yakuza 6 is simiar to the final boss of Yakuza Black Panther 1 and Yakuza 5 in a way. In Black Panther's final boss Shinjou Reiji where the main villian couldn't fight as he use to so he has one of his best man to fight Tatsuya its the same with Yakuza 6 but with some torture so its not that possible to compare Mine to Isueno when Black Panther 1 did kind of the same thing. If there one good thing to say about the final boss in Kenzan (He was my least favorite final boss) at least he had the balls to defend himself.

The final boss of 6 can very much fight and defend himself though, he's just very afraid for his life unlike most other final bosses, it's one of the few times you saw such a believable depiction of how villains usually are, and I like and admire that boss for that. He thought he planned everything perfectly, but it crumbled to dust when Kiryu's buddies arrived alongside him to help him get back on his feet, and it's only normal that any villain would panic at such an occurance.

And TBH I think any villain would be scared shitless for his life considering 6's final boss did the unspeakable and threatened Kiryu's family with some *real* vile methods, LOL. Just think about what Kiryu would do to you if you held not only Haruka hostage, but also her infant son.

devilleon7 Yeah that was what i meant by torture part when Kiryu resisted his attacks and the main villian was afraid. :3

I think this and Zero are the only Kiryu final bosses where Kiryu wasn't wounded before hand. Whether it be being grazed by a bullet, or shot several times. This is an uninjured Kiryu and Mine still gives him a good fight.

Everyone here arguing about which final boss fight is better but I think we can all agree on one thing, Kenzan's final boss is the worst and most disappointing in the series.

I think Mine is the toughest (story wise) boss yet, I definitely think he can beat any of the final bosses from the video games, even Tetsuo Nikaido if Mine's well equipped.
Vs Nishiki: Nishiki is definitely not powerful enough to best Mine. Sure, Nishiki is skilled, but compared to Mine, he's really weak. Definite win, although a little struggle.
Vs Ryuji: Ryuji's a tough nut and awfully strong. That's all he has going for him. Mine is just as strong and skilled as Kiryu. Definitely a lot more skilled than Ryuji (and this is only a Kiwami problem, Ryuji in the OG had some semblance of technique then), and a definite win.
Vs Tenkai: While Tenkai is a fat bastard, he has a frail skeleton. All he has in his arsenal is a pistol.
Vs Arai: Arai is skilled and tough, but all he really has in his arsenal are his own two legs. Mine is more versatile, not to mention matching Kiryu in strength.
Vs Kido: Kido is INCREDIBLY tough. He survived Saejima's onslaught, and he's a skilled fighter on top of that. It's on a game of chance on who wins: Mine's chances are at least 60%, Kido's are at least 40%.
Vs Daigo: Daigo, while as skilled as Kiryu, probably isn't as tough. It's more 50/50 on who wins.
Vs Munakata: Mine easily wipes out the goons (if any), and takes care of Munakata (who, like Tenkai, literally has only a pistol to defend himself with).
Vs Shinjo: This is a pretty tough fight for Mine, although all he has to do is not get hit by Shinjo's toe kick.
Vs Nozaki: Again, same as Shinjo. Mine just has to avoid the shockwave stomps, then it's curtains for Nozaki.
Vs Nikaido: Mine with firearms could definitely beat Nikaido. It's basically like Kiryu vs Nikaido.
Vs Kanai: Again, while Kanai is both a brute and strong, it's certainly not enough to contend against Mine.
Vs Baba: Mine claps Baba. Sure, Baba can put up a fight, but Mine eventually wins.
Vs Majima: Now this is an interesting one. Aside from Kido, Daigo, Shinjo, and Nozaki, Majima is potentially capable of actually managing to beat Mine in at least 6-8 fights out of 10 in the same situation. Majima, while he's tough and has a knife, is also incredibly fast. So fast, that he can literally create afterimages of himself. Mine could possibly be defeated because Majima's that powerful.
Vs Aizawa: Aizawa is as resilient and tough as Kido, albeit using more strength than skill. Mine is definitely gonna be challenged when up against Aizawa.
Vs Gui: Phase 1 is a little tough. Gui has needles that double as fist load weapons and as thrown projectiles. Phase 2 is even tougher, as Gui now has a gun and a broadsword. Phase 3 mellows down, as Gui is completely unarmed.
Vs Shibusawa: It's a long and tough battle. Shibusawa can switch from ruthless speed, to brute strength, to skilled technique. Mine could definitely beat Shibusawa though.
Vs Iwami: Iwami is barely tougher than Tenkai and Munakata. A fight will be put up, but Mine will definitely crush Iwami.
Vs Aoki: Aoki probably hasn't fought in a while, and as such, is a lot weaker. Easy win for Mine.
Vs Kuroiwa: Kuroiwa relies more on speed, and his strikes are a little scary, but Mine definitely has a chance of beating Kuroiwa.
Vs Kuwana: Again, Kuwana's somewhat like Kuroiwa in terms of fighting. Mine can beat Kuwana.
Vs Shirakaba: Curiously, Shirakaba is both proficient in fighting and a really tough man as well, and could possibly match at least half of Mine's strength. Key phrase: Half of Mine's strength. Mine would be struggling, but will eventually prevail.
