    Enjoyed watching Brandon. Appreciate you showing when you make a mistake. Everybody makes them, and when you show them, you're going to help me or someone else from doing it wrong. Thanks!

    People that don’t make mistakes, generally don’t do a lot! Good video Brandon, down to earth and very humbling.

    I always worry when someone posts a video of a complex procedure that goes flawlessly. Perhaps edited to look like it went flawlessly anyway. The fact is, I've done many of these repair/upgrades so infrequently that I need to be keenly aware of where *ALL* the snake pits are. I don't find the HD service manuals to be especially helpful for anything I've never done before. And once I've done it there are usually many ways to do it better than the way it's described in the manual. Sometimes when you have trouble fitting a part you will skip forward to where it's actually installed so we don't get to see what the obstruction was. VERY happy that you explained, in great detail, what went wrong reinstalling the cam plate. Hopefully it's a mistake that I won't be making thanks to you. Great videos! I get a lot out of them! Very much appreciated.

      Because of how much I record when I do these jobs, there’s a lot that gets cut out, but I do my best to not get rid of anything important. In my opinion, hiding your mistakes doesn’t benefit anybody 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Always enjoy chillin and checking out your vids when I get a chance. a decent good heater I got for my garage was one of those amazon diesel 5kw heaters. best thing I ever did for my garage. should get yours to be bearable. I did some different ducting and ran my exhaust a certain under my ducting to capture that heat. but It works great for being out in the garage in the cold.

    I’m sure this is fine but you are still missing some steps in this video for one you should check your end play. For instance if say it’s at .003 this leads to the importance of the step you missed and that is you should center the cam plate as you did the oil pump. I put 10 inch pounds then turn the crank a few time before tightening them down to 120 inch pounds. Then repeat this process for the oil pump. If your run out is excessive and you skip this step it can willow out the bushing on the cam plate. If this happens you will lose oil pressure to the crank bearings and can lead to crank failure. I’ve seen this many times.

    Brandon, I think I’ve got your old 2017 dyna. Just did a chain on it. Would love to chat with you and hear if there is any engine work done. Went to clean the air filter and I see the screaming Eagle Throttle body. I also see arp bolts on the cam chest cover which leads me to believe there’s more to be desired on the inside. Anyway, great videos, keep hustling. Hopefully we can catch up.

    Hey Brandon. I watched your cam install video the other day, good stuff! Did you get the bike tuned after the install? I have heard mixed opinions about that.
    Thanks,
    Joel.

    Do you have an oil pressure gauge? If so, what reading was you Experiencing?
    I guess I'm asking, can you tell if your pump is bad with the gauge.

    So where did all that stuff off your oil pump go ? In your motor and that's gona be a problem down the road

  • @RBoysMedia
    @RBoysMedia ปีที่แล้ว

    I just did cams, no oil pressure. The cam plate fits back in even if the pump gear isn’t aligned? I didn’t force anything but I went in fine. I’d have no problem re doing it if the pushrods weren’t such a pain to do. And I didn’t red loctite them..

    • @RBoysMedia
      @RBoysMedia ปีที่แล้ว

      I also didn’t soak my lifters

    • @GilstrapGarage
      @GilstrapGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be a pinched o-ring on the back of the oil pump or on the back of the cam plate

    • @RBoysMedia
      @RBoysMedia ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GilstrapGarage do you think the torque spec is a big deal on the pump? I did loosen one bolt by accident and re tightened it. Put it this way, we found a metal rounded off piece that looks like it could be from the oil pump gears but I never took it off. We think it’s from another project but what’s your thought on that? And I meant I did red loctite the pushrods which sucks if I have to re check it all. Hoping all my issues are from the stock air cleaner

    Just a comment on the short you posted today (5/5/23). People who post bitches about how someone rides may not be as smart as they think. I drove for Greyhound when I was starving my way through college long before most of those whining snowflakes were born. I've also been riding (mostly Harleys) on a regular basis since 1962 and the fact that I'm still alive ought to say something about my own abilities. It's a well known survival strategy to keep the idiots behind you. Far behind you! Failing that, keeping them way in front of you so you can watch when they cream someone else. Lane splitting, I dunno. I go way out of my way to NEVER have a moving cager beside me so to me, splitting lanes is asking to be sideswiped. Loud pipes definitely save lives and when I do have to get closer to a cager than I like I make damn sure they hear me. I also [intentionally] look like a cold blooded killer so just in the off chance that they look in their mirror I seek to scare the crap out of them. My assumption is that everyone around me is drunk, drugged out and completely incompetent behind the wheel. I trust no one and I assume nothing. I'm not betting my life that the dipso coming up fast on some side road is going to actually stop at the stop sign. When I was active legislatively I spent 30-odd years trying to promote "Kill a Biker, go to jail" legislation.... to no avail. Sadly, there are very few actual Bikers here in Oregon. Mostly just posers who happen to own motorcycles. Karma was at work when the ABATE State Coordinator who killed my efforts in 2022 wound up splattered all over Hwy 101 when a cager violated his right of way a few years ago. Ride on, my friend and don't pay any mind to bomb throwers who hide behind their computer screens hurling out insults.
