    Raytracing, is comming... I mean it's BEEN HERE for a couple years with RTX, but now AMD's Radeon 6000 series has it, and soon the Playstation 5 and Xbox series X will arrive and they have it too

    The puddle reflections don't distort when vehicles drive over. Makes it look like they are skating over. I guess fluid simulation is a step too far at the moment.

      Other games already have fluid animations when things hit water. They probably didn't add it here to stabilize fps

      They could add a particle effect for splash and ripple to fake a fluid simulation. Would help to further ground the scene at no to minimal cost.

      I found it less realistic, it’s good to have full reflection on mirrors, etc, but in a wet highway without the blurry effect it makes it less realistic.

    Can't deny it's better with ray tracing on, but not everything needs to be ultra shiny.

      Those windows do look WAY too shiny and clean, but I think its partly an aesthetic choice to make this future London look squeaky clean when its hiding a horrific dystopian nightmare.

    • @InWeCome
      @InWeCome 3 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      No the puddles are too shiny and too bright as well. As if the system doesn't take into account the dark street not even half an inch below the puddle. I think on the streets it looks more realistic without raytracing. It should be darker and light doesn't always reflect, in reality it takes the right angle to see a sharp reflection. Often you can see through the puddle instead.

      @@b0b050 Yeah but won't that make it worse? I still want good quality in everything else. Maybe they should give us way more customisation like turning cars reflections off but keeping the rest
      And the puddles look great but unrealistic like a mirror, without is more realistic
      Ubisoft needs to release their Devs outside once in awhile so they know what the real world looks like
      Puddles aren't mirrors, the water isn't that clear
      Cars aren't that clean, maybe some freshly deep awashed and even still not like this, when the car went into a bridge this is when I realized something is wrong 🤣

  • @glenwaldrop8166
    @glenwaldrop8166 3 ปีที่แล้ว +842

    They need to lower the resolution of ray traced reflections a bit yet.
    The real world is dirty, the surfaces are not polished to a mirror finish.
    Even windows on buildings are not perfect mirrors.
    Our focal point is generally not on the reflection so that adds another level of blur.
    When they get this right though, it's going to be damn nice. Reshade RTGI is amazing, better, in my opinion, than some of these AAA games implementations.

    • @Armendicus
      @Armendicus 3 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      yeah the game looked more natural with no/less ray tracing.

    • @thenonexistinghero
      @thenonexistinghero 3 ปีที่แล้ว +54

      They don't need to lower the resolution of the RT reflections, but they to do a few things to make it more realistic. Some stuff like reflections in a puddle with still water, can look very crisp and amazing in real life. But then there's dirty buildings and you can barely make out a thing. The way to make it realistic isn't to just make all reflections equal and lower the quality, but to differentiate properly between what should and shouldn't have clear reflections. Even on the same buildings, have worse reflections on the dirtier windows and better ones on the clean windows. It would likely also save on processing power. I imagine a good algorythm would be able to take care of it. Hopefully we'll see things like that pop up in a few years or so.

    • @awayelsewhere
      @awayelsewhere 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      they dont necessarily have to lower the resolution (thats not entirely how ray tracing works anyway, theres a load of other stuff like samples that would probably make more sense), they just need to add some imperfection overlays like fingerprints and condensation. ive been messing about with ray tracing in unreal, and i totally agree that in most scenarios it looks pretty unrealistic, not because the technology is wrong, but just because we always assume the real world is cleaner than it is

    • @Kestrel626
      @Kestrel626 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      When Nvidia launched the 20 series they used a bombed out WW2 street battle scene to showcase their raytracing, it looked completely wrong as the cars looked as if they had just been polished & all the buildings had clean windows.

    • @warzIbanez
      @warzIbanez 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That's the thing about Pixar's metallness / roughness shader (as opposed to spec / glossiness) that game engines like Unreal Engine 4 and other visual tools like Marmoset Tool bag have been espousing- a reflective material should still have some roughness details, and a non reflective surface can have some very faint details bounce off of it, plus there are properties like fresnel that can explain or improve those details. Hopefully artists will be able to work with these existing techniques.

So what are we going to get? Every game taking place in a rain drenched environment? In addition - until we get full real time global illumination then, well, it's just a bit of a gimmick. Just a few years ago people said we weren’t gonna get real time ray tracing in games or programs anytime soon. Yet here it is.

    The characters moving on roads still feel like people are moving their legs in air and hence seem to be walking in air instead of gravity based earth. I hope that the next gen gaming by end of 2021 will have standardized and optimized the visual weight of objects and gravity-affected movements as in Plan 8 video game. I also hope for amazing remasters of all PS1 and PS2 and PS3 games and Xbox games as well on Ps5 and Xbox Series X/S too respectively.

    Can I expect locked 50 frames with ray tracing full, on a rtx 2060 in 1080p ultra?

      Lmao u wish, with ray tracing on full with 2060, you'd be lucky to get 30

    • @BluntyTV
      @BluntyTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      With the settings I was using here, I was getting ~45, and not even close to "locked". It's unplayable at "ultra" with RT on with a 2060.

    • @alexatkin
      @alexatkin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've only been able to get 50fps on a 2080 on high settings at 1440p WITH DLSS Quality setting, with a 100Mhz overclock. Its those 1% lows that are a real pain to try and stay out of judder-fest. There is one particular time of day with bright sunlight that tanked performance more than even night time with rain for some reason, though possibly also down to where on the map I was at the time. Its too early to spot any patterns, at least I haven't had the crashes some people have (except when I tried to leave my default 185Mhz overclock enabled).

      I got stucked on 30 fps ultra/very high/high with ray trace medium in my rtx 2070, only on main menu I got 100 fps lmao. Can someone tell me how can I unlock 50fps+? I try to play another games and got more 60-100 fps.
