Yes, most will just spend the extra $200 for the 4080 as would I instead of the 7900 XtX. The 4080 is an all rounded better card. If you are going to drop $1000 might as spend a little more for the superior product. What's 20% more when you are already spending $1000. I was forced to purchase a 6800 XT as I couldn't find any 3080 ti cards at the time back in Jan and I paid $1300 for it. Yep I got ripped. I waited for so long I said screw it and I got screwed but oh well. Gaming isn't bad on the 6800 XT but Nvidia's drivers are just so much better. I've been having flickering issues of late with AMD drivers. Something new for sure.

On average an extra 20 frames for a $1000 price increase? Insane. This card really does compete with the 4090 on price. I don't think I could ever justify spending $1,000 for 20 extra frames on average. If the 4090 was only 15% more expensive, sure. But 100% more for a 15% performance increase? No way.

AMD have a long history of releasing great graphics cards, but not optimizing the drivers until a few months after release. Usually you can expect significant performances improvements to new cards within a few weeks to 18 months after a release. AMD have been like this for 20 years. Nvidia on the other hand usually have more optimized drivers out of the box, but usually Nvidia offer less good value too. Really, both companies offer great products and both have their pros and cons.

The most interesting part is that 7900XTX only runs at ~2.25Ghz, which is close or lower than 6900XT at most games. Some say the major effiency issue of RDNA 3 is caused by its registers' power consumption. Registers eat a large amount of power headroom towards the card's TBP, so CUs can only run at significantly lower clock speed than they should (>3Ghz). That's the reason why 7900XTX underperforms.

They fail miserably to improve on nVidia even with higher spec cards like this one because they can’t come up with drivers efficient enough to actually make it run properly.
So nah you compare the flagships and then you understand why nVidia is more expensive. It is simply because they know their stuff and they know they’re still way ahead here.

Also RT will improve as there is a huge boost in fps coming soon in 1H 2023 not only FSR3 but also Hypr-RX those will improve fps at lower latency (like Nvidia reflex). Also if this isn't enough pair it with their upcoming 7000 series X3D version and you good to go. I'm telling you that the fps difference vs 4090 that 15-30 fps will be caught up with FSR3 and X3D CPU for additional fps boost. @Trucking Good Times you said that both cards ran so well that you couldn't see the massive 25 to 60% advantage the 4090 has. You do realize youtube cannot show 4k video faster than 60fps. Of course they are going to look the same on TH-cam. I have seen a lot of negative feedback of the AMD cards not working due to driver issues, crashing to desktop, full crashing of the computer, and glitchy inconsistent performance improvements over their last generation 6950XT. The 6950XT actually beats the 7900XTX in some 1440p benchmarks. Thats sounds broken to me...

@Trucking Good Times especially at lower resolutions. At 4k native high refresh(4090 owns this market) you do NOT need the fastest CPU . 4k native maxed every setting, whether ray tracing is one of those settings or not won't matter either. With a 4090 it's so damn powerful, you could run a r5 5600x or an i9 13900K and you would barely see any performance advantage at 4k. You might not get even 1 or 2 fps.

Pointless discussion. Some say RT is a gimmick they “don’t” need as it only makes the game prettier where all they want is good gameplay. Then 4K is a gimmick too and why would you want to consider that then? Then it’s plain stupid to buy a card close to or over 1000€ or $, when it’s an overkill for 1440p (for AMD without RT). Those who want the best and can afford it, will go for 4090, which a premium product and not aimed at people buying mid-range. Price performance on the Top is a non-issue. Would you compare an M3 to Golf GTI in the same way?
So yes, AMD will eventually get close, in about a year or so, then another 6 months to get drivers in check, but then Nvidia will already be closing in on their next gen etc… Today, the fact is that Nvidia launched 2 cards that work on day 1, no issues reported. AMD launched too early, power issues, coil whine, shit drivers (ok updates coming in next MONTHS)… if you really like AMD, then their previous gen is much better VALUE.

Actually, there's the difference but it's less than 1%. I tested it myself on 4090 - if game is really demanding and you push your gpu to the max like native 4k (no dlss), psycho settings Cyberpunk 2077, it's literally the same ~50 vs ~50fps but in case where you can reach 150fps+, it's basically +1-2fps per every 150 frames on average. It's not any rule but it's just like that. In doom eternal on B450 mobo (Aorus Elite v2) after 10mins of just normal gameplay and fooling around I got 457fps max and 198 on avg. Same setup - B550 (ROG Strix), same map, same time - 460max and 199 avg.
So yeah, it's just not really worth it to upgrade your mobo just for better pcie if you are mainly gaming on your PC. I don't think it's even worth to look for pcie4 riser if you want to have one. The only place where you will able to see higher numbers are the price and that +1 on it's box :d
