My absolute favorite - each band member gets a turn to shine. They were ahead of their time, in fact, they are timeless - 50 years later we are still listening to and appreciating their music. So many styles, so many genres, ENJOY!

Queen was definitely way ahead of their time. They were ground breakers in the so many way that they approached music. They weren't afraid to create different styles of music and they nailed all of them. Queen was in a class of their own. The talent that this band had is in a league of their own.
    R.I.P FREDDIE WE MISS YOU

I saw Queen several times beginning in 1975 and fell in love. Still love them 50 years later, greatest band of all time 🥰 that's Brian May on guitar, Roger Taylor on in drums and John Deacon on bass. All 4 members are Queen.

You need to react to Stone Cold Crazy from the same concert (Rainbow '74). It thrash metal before there was thrash metal.
Yes, they were ahead of their time. Another reactor says Queen is a genre unto themselves.
Go back & listen to the part of the song w/ the guitar solo (Dr. Sir Brian May) & pay special attention to the bass line (John Deacon) and the playing of the bass line. That could have been a great big hole in the middle of the song without a rhythm guitar, but John & Roger Taylor (drums) were able to keep a strong full sound under that solo just the 2 of them.

They were a tough, wild old band. Used to slay the audience. Liar was always a highlight of their set at that time, with Son & Daughter, Keep Yourself Alive.

They were always ahead of their time live in terms of presentation and lighting rigs, which (when they had the money later) were state of the art and designed on the West Coast of the US. All came from Fred. He was a complete visionary.

No pressure on "understanding" meaning of the lyrics. Open to interpretation - on purpose. Sometimes you'll find a song you hear at 21 takes on a whole different meaning at 40. That tells you all you need to know. LIAR and this performance have a big WOW factor for me because everyone gets their spotlight moment. Since you mentioned metal, check out STONE COLD CRAZY live at this same performance - always a surprise for fans that only know 80s Queen. But you can't have one without the other!

I love this song, love the change ups and all the instruments being showcased. You really get to see how much talent this band actually has. This band did connect with the crowd and every member of the audience was definitely engaged. This song is about deception, really, how it is really hard to find honest people and sometimes difficult to even be completely honest yourself. That is what I get out of it, but Freddie never broke down his songs, he felt the the beauty of music was that the listener got to paint their own picture from the music and words. Even their videos really don't have much to do with their songs for the same reason. Queen didn't want to push you into a box with their music, they wanted it to be subjective. I think Queen was in the right place at the right time. Yes, they were very innovative but they came into popularity when just about anything goes and with all the talent in this band and all four members writing songs, they were able to do just about anything they wanted and make it work. They had unmeasurable talent and all were smart and well educated boys, which helped as well. Brian, the guitar player (Today is his 76th birthday), actually has his PhD in Astrophysics. He also built that guitar with his dad when he was a teen with junk they had laying around the house. The guitar is known as "The Red Special" also sometimes referred to as "The Old Lady" of as Freddie fondly referred to it as "The Fireplace" because part of the guitar was made from wood that was laying around from a hundred year old fireplace. Brian still plays that same guitar today and has done almost all of his recording with exclusively that guitar and also used it in every live performance. Roger(drums) a degree in biology, John (bass) an advanced degree in electronics. He built a small amplifier from junk he found in a dumpster, known as the Deacy Amp. It distorts sound in a way that allows Brian to make his guitar sound like horns or strings. People have been trying to recreate that amp for 50 years and finally in the last couple of years someone has come very close but so far, there is nothing like it. Freddie had a degree in Fashion, Design and Advertising (he actually designed the Queen logo witch still appears on everything that is officially Queen). So these were not just ordinary boys in a band, Queen started with good pedigrees. Prince started recording in 1977 at age 17 so he was a bit behind Queen. Freddie was a fan of Prince. Another great Queen live performance is White Queen live at Odeon Hammersmith 1975. Also March Of The Black Queen studio version on this one because the live are just a tiny piece of the song.

Some great info there, but paragraphs dahling, paragraphs! That wall of text without breaks is really hard to read.
Don't forget the logo has their astrological signs in it and Freddie helped design their stage clothes. He always worked with the designer (according to Zandra Rhodes).

@@samloveslfc..let’s add to that....the Flash symbol you can see on his shirt sometimes.....Freddie designed that....Queen wrote the soundtrack for that movie....also Freddie’s white outfit in some vids with the wingtips on the sleeves and the bottom of his pants...this is a reference to the Roman God, Mercury. When Freddie was 7 he was sent to a Traditional Christian Boarding School. In the Documentary "Lover of Life, Singer of Songs," Freddie's Mother reads one of his letters telling of a confrontation in the school where the Headmaster/ Father cuts off his hair as a form of punishment. I believe that's the inspiration for this song.

Queen is a British rock band that was formed in 1970 and was comprised of:
Freddie Mercury - Lead vocals and piano
Roger Taylor - Drummer and vocals
Brian May - Lead guitar and vocals
    John Deacon - Bass guitar
Queen released 15 studio albums, 10 live albums, 16 compilation albums, two soundtrack albums, 2 extended plays, 73 singles, and seven promotional singles. They had a multitude of gold, platinum, and multiple platinum singles, and every member of Queen was not only an amazing musician but each one also compose songs. Queen is the only group where each band member has songs in the Music Hall of Fame.
You should listen to "Killer Queen" which was released in 1974 and was their breakthrough song that turned Queen into worldwide rock stars. Peaking at #2 in the UK, the song became a hit in seven other European countries as well. “Killer Queen” was the first Queen single to successfully ‘cross the pond’, becoming a top 20 hit in the U.S. and Canada, as well as a top 30 hit in Australia.
Here is the link to their performance of Killer Queen at the Top of The Pops (Top of the Pops, aka TOTP, was a British music chart television program). If a song was showcased on the TOTP, it did not make the top 20 on the charts. th-cam.com/video/2ZBtPf7FOoM/w-d-xo.html

Perfect. More Queen. Since all 4 members were incredible songwriters the music they created is eclectic and experimental. Freddie wanted the listener to come up with their own ideas of the song’s meaning and create their own visions from the music. Watching them live was always unique but recognizable. They were professional musicians and took their jobs seriously. Queen was ahead of their time since all of them were smart, educated with college degrees before becoming successful. ❤thanks

They were the first group to pack stadiums around the world with numbers that no one had done before. John, Brian, Roger and Freddie knew they had talent and when combined they could go right to the top and they DID. Please react to Tenement Funster with Roger Taylor the drummer on lead. It will be a nice fun treat. Keep on the Queen journey lots of beautiful things to discover.

I love seeing young people like yourself discover Queen!!
The band was together (with Freddie) for 20 years. They got together approximately 1971 through 1991 when Freddie passed away from AIDS.
    Brian May is on guitar
    Roger Taylor is on drums
    John Deacon is on bass
Each member of the band wrote at least one #1 song and all the members are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They are also in the Song writers Hall of Fame.
John Deacon retired from music after Freddie died, but Brian and Roger have been playing stadiums since 2012 with Adam Lambert singing lead and they are still selling out stadiums even with Roger and Brian in their 70’s! They have been doing shows around North America and I missed them.
Their early 70’s stuff is hard rock like this, but over the years their music changed as you have seen from your other reactions.
The band is really good about reactions on TH-cam because they want their music to be shared.
The band believed that the fans could hear the studio version of their songs anytime with the albums which is why they made a point of turning their live shows into an experience. You could go to three different shows and the same song sounds different. Freddie would do something a bit different each time. There is a song called Love of My Life that was performed at Wembley Stadium, Montreal in 1981 and in Brazil. The show was called Rock in Rio. Each version of the song is different, but they are all amazing. The band didn’t think it was fair to pay to see them if they’re going to sound just like the album. Unlike a lot of current artists who will lip sync.
If you want to continue down the rabbit hole that is Queen, here is a list of songs (you will definitely get a lot of views and subs from us Queen fans)

Queen was ahead of their time, very forward thinkers and musicians. Prince came about five years after this concert took place. He was around when they had their 80's phase of music. You really need to react to Stone Cold Crazy from the same concert. The guitarist name is Brian May and the bass player is John Deacon. Drummer is Roger Taylor. Queen were definitely ahead of their time. They also worked hard to develop their own, unique sound - a skill/work ethic that doesn't exist with modern artists. Oh, and while each member of Queen was an extremely talented musician, they were more than just musicians....
Brian May - Lead Guitar - has a PhD is Astrophysics. That guitar you see him play, he built that guitar, with his father, while a teenager. That guitar (along with the Deacy amp) contributed to Queen's unique sound.
John Deacon - Bass - Has a university degree in Electrical Engineering. He built the Deacy am, which helped Brian's guitar produce such a unique sound. Deacon rarely sang, but wrote several Queen songs, including: "You're My Best Friend"; "Another One Bites The Dust"; "Spread Your Wings"; "I Want to Break Free"; and many more.
John Taylor - Drums, vocals - Taylor has a university degree in Biology, and was studying to be a dentist when Queen was signed to a record contract. Taylor has a great rock voice, and sings most of the high notes in Queen songs.
Freddie Mercury - Lead Vocals, Piano - Freddie has a degree in Graphic Design, and designed Queen's logo, and the first several album covers.

Everyone always asks for White Queen from the Hammersmith Odeon, but I prefer the one from Live at the Rainbow 1974, same show as you found Liar on. I'd be interested in hearing which version you would prefer. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people have never heard the Rainbow version. The instrumental part, which is fantastic, just focuses on Freddie at the piano, which is wonderful, but leaves out the other band members. The camera work on the Rainbow version is far more inclusive and layered, shining a light on Brian May, the guitarist as well. There is even a bit of love for Roger Taylor the drummer, and John Deacon the bassist. Thanks for the reaction to Liar, by the way, another of my favorites!
