Finally watching this video I bought a clipper, just picked a setting on that clipper, based purely on your video and which I liked and I did an all round buzz cut at just that one setting; and I am happy with the outcome. This was actually very interesting. Usually i use a #3 to #4 and consider to try #2 but wasn't sure, so i searched for guard #2 cut and found this video which was a really good illustration and help to make a decision. 👍

I think #4 is as short as we get without starting to show off the scalp. That's what I'll get on top when I get my shoulder-length hair chopped off. But I want it noticeably shorter on the sides and back.
All the lengths looked fairly good in my opinion. It seems more a question of how much prep time you feel like putting into your hair in the morning because any would work.

Okay so I am watching this and here is my feed back a few years later. The number 4 clipper for your hair I liked the best because it was shorter but no scalp was being shown just hair. When you went down to 3 you can see your scalp especially on top to my right when viewing video. As you went down to 2 highest more scalp was shown and yes it did make you look sketchy. The lowest level on the 2 showed even more scalp. I guess i like to see a hair cut that doesn"t show the scalp unless all the way down to baldness. And for some reason it wasn't as gentle of a look I would prefer on a manly man. xo :)

Just done myself a corona special - clipper cut No. 2 all over - easy, no fades. Just have to trim neckline and sideburns with razor - use hand mirror and stand in front of wall mirror to see yr neck!
danz beard Yeah!! I did it with a 2 guard and went to fix it up a day later and failed to notice there was no guard on it!!!!! So now it’s about a 1 guard 😂

Just did mine. Looks pretty good. Might keep it for awhile instead of having the common comb over with hard part. I used 4 on top. 2 on sides and 1 for back neck and edges.

I was really liking #4! When you went to #2 opened I was like that’s the one. But #2 closed was even better gives it time to grow before next cut plus beard stands out nice. Just did my cut to a #6 then I did a mid fade, but now I just seen the #2 I’m cutting it in the am. Thanks
Thanks for this video! I have 2 boys and I never know what all the clipper numbers look like and I get all lost at describing what I want to a barber. They like to keep their hair long on top and shorter on the sides, similar to what you had it when you began. I think the hardest part of keeping up with men's hair is keeping it lined up at the neck and ears. If that is kept up it keeps looking really good. I think your hair at the start looked best and most unique; it seems like so many guys now all resort to having buzz cuts because it is so convenient & inexpensive, but then it becomes a very common look.

Yup! About to do the covid pixie too. I usually get a longer pixie cut done at a hair dresser, but clearly they aren't open and they're going to be way overbooked by the time they are. I was convinced to keep it long until the end of winter, but this happened. Now my hair feels so long, heavy, and gross. I just can't go on with this any longer. My problem is the 8 gaurd is missing, so it has to be a 7 😫 I'm scared

I have a disconnected haircut. Hair from my top hang to my neck or shoulders (it depends on how months have been after a cutting), sides and back of the head are shaved. Definitely like the #2. I personally use a #1. My beard is just a tad bit longer, but my stash isn't as thick. Looks good on you brother! I think it helps shape your face, and really accentuates the beard. First video of yours I've seen, and now a new subscriber!

I started out using a #5 all over, then went down to a #4 on the sides, and a #3 lower down, then tried (emphasize "tried") to give him a square across the bottom. All went well, he's easy to please (thankfully) - but I really struggled with sideburns and around his ears. It's not great, but it's not bad. Thank you (again) for your videos! If I knew how to attach a before and after, I would have. :-)

A #4 on top for you. Fade up from a #1 at the base of your neck to a #2 or #3 right before the crown of your head. Also, shape your beard in just a tad at the bottom or longest parts.

For a lot of the video I was focused on his traps, my God they're amazing. Also thank you for this, I'm a teenager and hate getting my haircut, but now that I know about the different numbers I can keep more hair so I wont look as bad after the cut.
Chris A I was getting every 2 week haircuts and was forced to buy clippers given the pandemic. It was initially quite frightening, but it quickly became comfortable for me. My cut looks easily as good as my Supercuts. I keep mine on the longer side of a shorter haircut. 7 on top, 6 on the sides and back, and 5 on the nape of my neck, then clean of the neck perimeter and side burns. The Wahl clippers cost slightly more than a haircut and a $5 tip.
i will probably go with the 3 guard, and as soon the barbers open up again ill put a fade in there LOL, easy maintenace, and cannot really go wrong with it.
I like the idea and concept but the only problem with this idea is it really applies to your particular hair type, let's say a thin haired wispy like hair so, let's say for example Robert Downey Jr's hair, if a guard was used at let's say a 4 would not look as well or similar to how yours does just cuz of the type of hair. But you know what, you did it for those who were intrigued or curious about how lengths would look and that's what you did so right on man. BEARD ON!
Came across this video this morning after doing research into DIY haircuts. Went straight in bathroom and cut my hair with trimmer. Used number 7 setting but looks like y number 1 all over 🤔. Still good though. Thanks for posting, wouldn't have been brave enough without watching this. Gained a new respect for hairdressers today. I have a disconnected haircut. Hair from my top hang to my neck or shoulders (it depends on how months have been after a cutting), sides and back of the head are shaved. Next year I'm gonna shave my head completely. I've been thinking about #3 guard before I watched your video. Now I do know I was right. I'm convinced I need a haircut with #3 guard. Thanks, m8

Yeah. I use a 4 on top and 3 for back and sides. It just lays down better up top that way. Can also play around with the lever to fade in between.

Definitely like the #2. I personally use a #1. My beard is just a tad bit longer, but my stash isn't as thick. Looks good on you brother! I think it helps shape your face, and really accentuates the beard. First video of yours I've seen, and now a new subscriber!

As for you - I thought it looked great at 5 or 6 - but then you kept going, and it kept looking really good. @@danzbeard Well, today was the day. I gave my husband a clipper cut! I started out using a #5 all over, then went down to a #4 on the sides, and a #3 lower down, then tried (emphasize "tried") to give him a square across the bottom. All went well, he's easy to please (thankfully) - but I really struggled with sideburns and around his ears. It's not great, but it's not bad. Thank you (again) for your videos! If I knew how to attach a before and after, I would have. :-)

A #4 on top for you. Fade up from a #1 at the base of your neck to a #2 or #3 right before the crown of your head. Also, shape your beard in just a tad at the bottom or longest parts.

Trying to figure out how to cut my own hair. I normally cut my hair every two weeks. Since the corona, I have to learn to do it myself.

Chris A I was getting every 2 week haircuts and was forced to buy clippers given the pandemic. It was initially quite frightening, but it quickly became comfortable for me. My cut looks easily as good as my Supercuts. I keep mine on the longer side of a shorter haircut. 7 on top, 6 on the sides and back, and 5 on the nape of my neck, then clean of the neck perimeter and side burns. The Wahl clippers cost slightly more than a haircut and a $5 tip.
The #6 looked great. So did the 5, 4, &3. But then I saw the #2 & that really looked the best.
Finally found what I was looking for. Thanks for this, helped a ton! About to start doing the laziest and cheapest haircuts :D

i will probably go with the 3 guard, and as soon the barbers open up again ill put a fade in there LOL, easy maintenace, and cannot really go wrong with it.
This is exactly what I was searching for. Every other video would show their hair being trimmed beginning at max of 16mm to smaller.
I like the idea and concept but the only problem with this idea is it really applies to your particular hair type, let's say a thin haired wispy like hair so, let's say for example Robert Downey Jr's hair, if a guard was used at let's say a 4 would not look as well or similar to how yours does just cuz of the type of hair. But you know what, you did it for those who were intrigued or curious about how lengths would look and that's what you did so right on man. BEARD ON!

Came across this video this morning after doing research into DIY haircuts. Went straight in bathroom and cut my hair with trimmer. Used number 7 setting but looks like y number 1 all over 🤔. Still good though. Thanks for posting, wouldn't have been brave enough without watching this. Gained a new respect for hairdressers today.
