This is a fundamental flaw in the laws for charitable organizations, whether they are religious or not. All organisation's should be subject to the same scrutiny & disclosure requirements when being audited, otherwise the door is wide open for corruption with no fear of being exposed, its ridiculous!
Not all religious 'businesses' sell music and merchandise. You'll find that without the exemptions a true religious business would struggle to survive as they depend almost completely on donations from members. AND they should definitely have paperwork to show this. But I think the moment activity extends beyond what is considered 'charity' more scrutiny is needed.
Pensioners, the unemployed, other benefit recipients are constantly put under intense scrutiny, but, it seems, charitable organizations have carte blanche, all the while hidden by a forest of bureaucratic obstacles.
The concern that I have is the people they are connected to in our nation, and if this is also a conflict of interest. Such as they hired a person who use to work for the charties commission to do their independent audit. Their report is that changes were recommended but the person that did the financial report, made them believe that they didn't break the law, or they did not do anything wrong.
Commercial activity carried on by religious organisations should not be tax-free. Not only do we have enterprises pulling in huge profits getting a free ride on the taxpayer dollar, but these businesses then have a huge advantage compared to secular businesses (with which they are competing) which do not get the benefit of tax concessions. This is an incredible mis-use of public funds.
It's disgusting that religious BUSINESSES get such special treatment. They are in it to do one thing, make money. And they do, hand over fist. And they get my tax payer money whether i like it or not. And pay less tax than i do as a regular Australian citizen, it's a disgrace.
Do an investigation into religious organisation engaging in insurance fraud, which they can do with impunity because religions know their claims won’t be questioned.
This is probably why you see pictures of little screaming children with days to live unles they receive your "help by charities with "new names" i or you have never heard of.These videos have a habit of appearing on YT......
One GIANT loophole and scam, organization or individuals making a profit from a business should be subject to tax, if scammers find a loophole they will abuse it and find further loopholes to increase their scam, all these organizations should be subject to financial scrutiny as per normal follow the money or the unions will all of a sudden be faith-based charities enhancing their corruption!!!!
cough cough...ummm, the idea of the exemption for religious organizations is to protect them from investigations into their nefarious activities; i.e.; the basis of their establishment..
Its very easy to explain ................... Quite legal and noby complains Australian Churches are endorsed tax concession charities under Item 1.1 in the Schedule to Sec 50-5 of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997. Shoebridge you hypocrite ..... Australian trade Unions trade unions have been exempted from federal income tax since the passage of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1915. Never hear you complaining about that

Why are they being so secretive about Hillsong? They're a scam.
Because politicians are involved... with diddling kids...

I can neither confirm or deny…. Wow… Shoebridge won’t fall for that…..
How about giving a straight “yes, Senator”, or “no, Senator”. Then he wouldn’t run out of time!
We’ve got dud bureaucrats.
When you have regulators as evasive & slimy as this, the `charity status` is always open to abuse.

especially when they are so profit designed. they didn't acquire large quantities of land by feeding anyone.
The government has no business in subsidising religion. All tax exemptions for religious activities should be abolished.
What on earth are these people even getting paid to do? They don't appear to be doing anything at all!
They're a protection racket!

They get no tax-payer money; their money comes from their own members, via donations and sales.
@@hughm1383Yeah! They avoid the same tax scrutiny everybody else suffers! That freedom ain't there to allow a bunch of bludgers to profiteer from it!
hughm1383 They get tax money for their schools
Black heart with green hearts... I want green hearts
