Senator Shoebridge opposes the Government's age ban for social media
Let’s be clear what a social media age ban means: it’s an age monitoring plan for everyone. Whether it’s achieved by monitoring keystrokes or scanning faces this will result in systemic privacy invasion.
And for what? This Government won’t even tell us what the harm they are targeting here is - if the harm is excessive screen time why aren’t games and netflix considered, if the harm is bullying why on earth are messaging apps exempt?
The truth is this entire policy is a thought bubble from a Government unwilling to have the hard conversations about tech regulation to keep online spaces safe and educating young people and their parents on how to manage risk, how to think critically about online content and how to set sensible boundaries based on evidence. Labor and the Coalition have given up on digital literacy apparently at the behest of the Murdoch papers. Really makes you think doesn’t it?

The Government has created an AI and copyright reference group but seems to be mainly speaking to those interested in breaching copyright. The Albanese Labor government must act on NSW Police Violence
มุมมอง 1K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hamid Sotounzadeh had his ribs fractured & spinal disc damaged in an unprovoked assault by an AFP officer while exercising his right to protest. One year later, the AFP has advised the officer who committed that assault will not face charges, or a criminal investigation. Around the country we’re seeing example after example of the outrageous vacuum of accountability for police. We’re seeing it ...

Many in the Bangladeshi diaspora say that the Bangladeshi government is not a legitimate government, and has no democratic mandate. Senator Shoebridge questions DFAT about Australia's response to the formation of this government given what we know about the electoral irregularities.

I raised in the Senate the violence, intimidation and manipulation in the recent election in Pakistan. Any legitimate government must reflect the will of the people they represent. Suppression of political opponents, unscrupulous vote counting and denial of democracy must not stand.

มุมมอง 2799 หลายเดือนก่อน
Senator David Shoebridge and Amal Naser, an organiser with Hirak and a third-generation Palestinian refugee living in exile, joined Greens members across NSW to discuss Australian weapons exports to the state of Israel and how we can hold our government to account for our role in the harrowing conflict in Gaza. This event was held online on Wednesday 7 February at 6:30pm.

As I write this, Labor is surrendering to the anti-refugee policies of the Liberal party. They are voting to treat refugees like criminals. Labor cannot keep claiming to be progressive while actively legislating against basic rights for refugees. You have to ask, why are they here?

A recent Department of Defence media release stated 'more than 70 Australian companies have directly shared more than $4.13 billion in global F-35 production and sustainment contracts'. Earlier this month it was revealed that Israel has been ordering F-35 spare parts from global suppliers for the F-35s it is using in the bombardment of Gaza. Wow!!! Your response to questions is full of excuses and this and that???. It is just does not make any sense. You need to get all your facts together before you give the senate estimates your answers. They just need a simple answer…..
Mini America....
Wow I love your patience in dealing with these overpaid and underperforming seals!
🙉🙉My goshh !! Look at Watts.............someone check his pockets !!
The Blue line Gang is World Wide.
Tamsyn Harvey is a very poor performer. Her sense of self far exceeds her ability and the stupidity of wearing a peasant blouse to Senate Estimates just proves that she just does not have her head in the game.
Well done.
no increase has been agreed too
Spare me hilarious
Dealing with the big issues of the day, affecting Australians in their day-to-day lives with cost of living, health care etc all taking second place to this!
Also when do you stop looking into the past and deal with the current issues we all have at hand. One of these big issues is oversize governments.
Seems odd that all these "traditional issues" arise where coal mines are located.
Senator Shoebridge supports terrorists. He's a effen disgrace
Hearing this almost want's to make me cry for the boy. It's a completely horrifying breach of trust.
They should change the name of the Australian Government to the Nazi Government of Israel.
Shoebridge just cannot move on, sack this lefty 💩head!👎🏻😡. ❤️🇦🇺
This is sickening, thanks Senator for making this public.
The federal police run a full-time protection racket for the likes of Alan Jones now community.
the public Service never ceases to amaze us with there incompetence, lack of care, lack of accountability, waste of Tax Payer $$$..
Police when given unusual laws to deal with exceptional circumstances love to "give such a law a go"! to learn and give staff experience in that unusual area. This "creative policing" can cause havoc to certain vulnerable individuals and those who surround them. It is not unlike the police practice of entrappment. To conjure around and create a crime that may never have occurred unless the provocation had been done! "Give the boys, girls something to do"! "Boost the crime figures"! "Increase the reputation of the force"!
Nobody trusts the police any more because anything you say or do can be used against you in a court of law
Does anyone have a link to watch this in full ?
What a fucking shit show
Here is a fun fact these horrible low life individuals the police, have never made the top 10 most trusted profession and have never tried to rectify this appalling statistic Just look at how unsympathetic they look they don't even look ashamed, they make me sick to my stomach
TOTAL INCOMPITANCE --Autism is a medical diagnosis ---we are losing all confidence in our police forces--morals and humanity are totally lacking
I had to turn this off...So bad...
Listening to this is like having teeth pulled out....Painful and excruciating...How are these people employed..Obviously very low qualifications required...Can you imagine them in the private sector..Unemployable...
And thay the people don't trust the police??
when your reply is full of ums and aaahs long pauses and round the mulberry bush you are being evasive or lying to cover your back, you cant sit there be evasive and collect tax money, their achievements are few if any, more time is spent just acting at politics
This is a little bit out of character for them, because usually they offer children candy to get into their police cars, probably because he was fourteen, he was closer to the age of consent than their normal victims, so they give him a cake, compliments of the Australian Federal Paedophiles.
Wow
And they wonder why we don’t trust the police.
Wtf
Blue line gang!
They have the same morals as Victorian police force the ultimate Sovereign citizens of Victoria also known as the police force
so the AFP had the boy and his family under surveillance but had no idea they were traveling to Singapore , even when the the AFP runs the security at Melbourne international airport. Sounds like a load of BS to me
They said very clearly they did *not* have them under surveillance after the original charges were dismissed. That's likely to be true. The AFP know how much they fucked up on this case, and would rather forget it happened than to keep trying dig up dirt
was there a file in the birthday cake?
someone tipped off singapore. and they hide behind, i wasnt aware. bullshit. and we have a Censorship bill being rammed through. im pretty done with australia and its woke WEF puppet politicians and government beaurocracy
reminds me that politicians like barilaro get away with everything even using afp terrorist group to arrest friendly jordies producer.
Why are they all smirking like that? Shameful.
When a simple answer cannot provide to a simple question that is already a proof of dodgy deals.
The greens again purposely misunderstanding something, so disappointed in this party
The Greens has not misunderstood anything in this instance,, DIRD reps deliberately not answering the question truthfully. The Norfolk Island residents are now paying the price of exorbitant freight rates because of Commonwealth Dept lack of know how,, as the saying goes they are trying to fit a square into a circle situation.
David Shoebridge, thankyou for asking these questions. As an long time user of Norfolk Islands freight servcie, we find it unbelieveable that the department remain so disconnected with this issue. The market is NOT meeting the demands for a suitable, safe and sustainable shipping service. Neither has it done for years. Neither will it ever do without some serious investment from the Australian Government in upgrades to port infrastructure.
The AFP need to be watched by an independent body. Then held to account for their incompetence.
Why is this not on the media?
Because it's damaging to them.
Is he white?
Cops treat autistic boy appallingly - what a f*cking surprise. "Institutional bastardy" - perfect description. "We know nothing" say the AFP. Disgusting.
Do you you have to be stupid to become a cop or does becoming a cop make you stupid?
Thank you
Timeline of Meetings: 22nd February: Initial setup meeting of the reference group. 29th May (originally listed as April on the website, later corrected): A technical session where experts, including Google, Canva, and the Gradient Institute, presented information. 4th September: Discussion of findings from the initial information gathering efforts. Information Requests and Responses: A questionnaire on the use of copyrighted materials in AI technology was issued on 22nd May, with responses due by 12th June. Additional requests for feedback, specifically regarding potential amendments to the Copyright Act, were issued on 17th September, with responses due by 18th October. Stakeholder Representation and Interests: Concerns were raised regarding the representation within the reference group, which appears to include a majority of AI developers and industry representatives with interests potentially misaligned with copyright protection. Despite this, the department asserted efforts to balance perspectives, aiming to understand both the creative sector's concerns and industry needs regarding AI’s copyright implications. Protection of First Nations Cultural Knowledge: Although First Nations' rights to cultural heritage and copyright are highlighted as a critical issue, the group faced scrutiny for potentially insufficient First Nations representation within the steering committee. It was later clarified that Tui Raven from Deakin University, among others, represents these interests. Government’s Direction: The government’s goal is to support creators and balance AI’s usage of copyright-protected material with protecting creators’ rights. This includes exploring avenues for protecting First Nations cultural heritage through broader governmental consultations and collaborations with the Office for the Arts. Design Concerns: The inquiry indicated dissatisfaction with the apparent peripheral inclusion of First Nations cultural rights, suggesting these protections were integrated due to feedback rather than being a central design feature of the consultation process. Overall, the discussion reveals ongoing efforts to balance AI industry interests with the protection of creators’ rights, including First Nations' cultural heritage, though concerns were raised about the design and focus of these consultations.
