  • Whisper Of The Heart is one of the greatest animated films of all time. There was a lot that went into this getting made, both from Director Yoshifumi Kondo, and Hayao Miyazaki. There's so much that this film does that resonates with me deeply, so in this video, I'll be covering the in-movie and behind the scenes information that makes it as great as it is.

You’re such an underrated creator! I always get excited when I see new videos from you in my subscriber feed. By the way, that was a great analysis of this movie. It’s one of the few Miyazaki movies than I haven’t seen, but I’ll be sure to check it out now!

Cozy is the right word for this movie.
Multiple times I came back to this movie when I felt helpless and disoriented about my life situation.
Even though it ends with a happy finale leaves the viewer with a sense of malincolia. Or at least it does with me.
Thanks for the review. I've just discovered your channel but I will explore it deep.

It's really sad how we can never see director Kondo's take on other Ghibli movies. He would make a very interesting comparison to how Miyazaki and Takahata make their films

CRIMINALLY underrated video and movie. Whisper of the heart is definitely my favorite movie atm. I just relate to it so much as an aspiring teenage writer. I was so glad to hear more insights of this film through your video. I love your analysis! Keep up the great work

nice video! i really didn't expect to love this film as much as i do, but it's easily one of my favourites. as much as i enjoy the typical whimsical nature of ghibli films, this one just feels so personal and relatable. it definitely deserves more attention and praise.

This is such an underrated video! You've covered a lot of ground about the film's production - I mean something as significant as how the Country Roads lyrics came about - haven't touched. Thank you for teaching us more about this movie. It's strengthened its spot as my favorite movie. :)

I think the magic we see in Whisper of the Heart is what happens when a main creative has an equal to keep him in check. Hollywood and studios have a tendency to prop up "super-directors" and give them all the power, which may lead to varying results which were less than stellar. An example was George Lucas and his prequel trilogy, compared to the main trilogy, where he had checks and balances to rein in his worst tendencies. I think we can say that Empire Strikes Back is more universally loved than Attack of the Clones as a result. Another would be Neil Druckmann and The Last of Us 1, compared to The Last of Us 2, where in part 1, there was a woman producer to keep track of the story, while he got free rein of part 2 after he got rid of her. As a result TLOU1 still has universal acclaim for the story, while TLOU2 is mired with controversy with defenders and haters on both extreme sides of the spectrum. Similarly, Kondo keeping Miyazaki in check elevated Whisper of the Heart to a whole new level that Miyazaki himself could not have foreseen. It is balance that Miyazaki himself never knew he needed.

With Ghibli, every frame's a painting, yet it takes an effort to keep an interest. I think you make an interesting case to watch this one. I'll put in the effort

I like how Chihiro at the beginning is how Shizuku would have been according to Miyasaki and after a lot of Charakter development she became a bit more mature, a bit more like Shizuku. Perhaps he also learned something by helping to create Whisper of the heart.
