CHECK OUT THE LECTRIC TRIKE: gohobo.io/xptrike
I am 80 years old. I've had my XP for 6 months. I really enjoy it. I have ridden it into Walmart and into our local grocery store. No one complained and I got several positive comments. I now have over 400 miles on it.
That is awesome, straight into Walmart !
I normally hate reviews on electric bike’s, but Kevin just made this video. He was so chuffed and knowledgeable, good on him for being so active, I think he could have still done the 18mph without even turning the bike on. Well done Kevin 👍🏻
Thanks Kevin for the distance test! Thanks Professor for another fine review!
Will get one in August when I get back to Toronto.
I LOVE my Lectric trike! I’m a 66 yr old handicapped woman. I ride it everyday! I walk my Labrador on a bike tow leash. He loves it! best purchase ever!
66 isn't old, I'm 66. lol
I'm 75 and just got this trike. Love it. Perfect for riding in our town. I give it a 10❤
Kevin looks like Chuck Yeager for sure. I met Chuck Yeager in 1973 ( Great Man) I own the XP Trike and am fast becoming a Bike repair expert due to damage from shipping. I will say Lectric customer service was very nice and fully covered all damages and there service department is extremely knowledgeable and all were friendly. Sign of a awesome company. Good video and I subscribed
Thanks for the review! I have one and after riding it for about two months, and absolutely love it. Good reviews, help sell bikes.
I feel you miss a bunch of things and I'll mention a few here.
It appears like you must have had the bike in beginner mode when your buddy was riding. He did mention it didn't get to 12 mph. In addition, when you were riding and showing the acceleration in PAS 1 and PAS 2, it most surely was in beginner mode. If your buddy had been in the non-beginner mode, he would surely have seen the 14 mph. When you were riding in the gravel you would have been fine in the non-beginner mode. You mentioned you were only going about 3 mph. In the non-beginner mode it will do 14 mph in PAS 1, it just accelerates slower, but if gets there once you're rolling. You need to get out of beginner mode and you will definitely notice a huge difference.
Another thing, you talked about the weight limit between the load on the baskets and the rider. The rider limit is set where it's at, because the rider is suspended on the seat and the seat post - that's where the limit exists. Think about it, it's due to the weight being on that single post and that will have a weight limit.
They definitely went without gears because it was a targeted segment of the population. Making it more complicated would not serve their target population.
I don't think your "skinny tires" comment is completely misleading. Road bikes do have skinny tires at usually 1 inch width. This bikes tires are 2.6 inches and are not skinny. No, they are not "fat" tires which hang out at around 4 inches, but they do not fit the definition of "skinny".
Great info on the battery drain and how you measured it, nicely done.
I thank you for your post. My son will need to lose weight before I invest in this trike, but I might buy one for myself. 👍
I like trikes. I can carry home more groceries. Screw the uncool factor, I am old enough to enjoy not being cool.
Good to see you Rollin
Excellent overview. I like that idea of an additional power source in the reconfigured pet cart.
I've worked on a few Lectric bikes and thought they were pretty decent quality for the price, but man at 0:45 when you spun the back wheels they wobbled like crazy!
I’m disabled and 35 years and while I can’t use it in the cold months(northern Ohioan🙄🥶) and this is my 2nd year of it and have about 150 miles on it already! I love it!
DIsabled Veteran here. I am glad they are finally putting out bikes like this. Kinda wish they would fold up a little smaller for RV travel mode., I want more speed too! lol (I have the Bluetti 200 Max and those new 200 Watt CIGS panels) Maybe I can mount CIGS 100 panel on this bike. That would be cool! Put a Blueeti in the basket and have a Solar Bike. lol
I pull enough panels on floats behind my kayak to run a Minn Kota trolling motor and have unlimited range on sunny days.
I was thinking the same things - for RVers. I'm thinking dual battery system, 25 MPH max, locking (instead of open) diff. If I'm trying to get up a steep hill, I want both rear wheels pushing - that was the biggest issue with my pedal trike, open diff, one wheel just slipping away, unable to ride uphill.
Hobodaddy, whaddya mean, for "seniors and disabled"?! This is perfect for a backroads jaunt to the beach, county and state parks on my little island! No worries about full parking lots either. My daughter will love taking it to the local farm stands. Rocky is too big for the pet trailer but I think he will learn to run alongside. I added about $500 of accessories. 😅 Your review was THAT good.
Ohhhhh yeeeeessss! I was waiting for this! Thanks so much!
This has to be one of the best bike reviews I’ve seen GOOD JOB….. Lectric can add some improvements to this trike and really make it awesome. I can see some individuals modifying this already…. Iam not in the market for a trike at a this time but would consider it. Waiting to see what they do with the next version. Great Job Hobo….
I took delivery of the XP Trike about a week ago. Haven't had many chances to ride, not a good time for bike riding in Colorado. 🥶. I'm a senior with a serious back injury that limits the mobility of my legs. I use a walker most of the time to get around. Riding a bicycle is a thing of the past for me, now days I tend to fall over with the bike on top of me. 🤕 With the trike balance and holding myself up on one leg is no longer a problem. So far my experience with the Lectric trike has been positive. I agree that it could use additional gears, maybe a 3-speed internal hub would be nice? I don't have a need to go fast, my days of zooming on a bike are over. 14 mph is fast enough now. 😃 I wonder if the big box stores would allow me to ride in using my trike? I don't think it would be any more intrusive than a mobility scooter. 😃
Great review, awesome video!
For the fat tire e-trike you're talking about, check out the Add Motor e-trikes. Like Lectric they're also made in Communist China. The problem with these alpha style trikes is they tip over pretty easily if you take a turn too fast. A reverse trike with two wheels in the front is much more stable when making tight turns at higher speeds. Then there are the leaning trikes that make it easier to take turns at higher speeds. After that are the independent dual forks of reverse trikes that separately adapt to the road conditions. Those also tend to be of the leaning variety. Not looking for an upright trike? Go for the units from Utah Trikes who will custom weld low rider style reverse electric trikes and e-quads. They've got a model they made for a customer that with a single rider has 10 e-bike batteries with a total range of 500 miles per charge on PAS level 1. That model is either 32 or 34 inches wide, can have an extended length bed, supports 500 pounds of cargo. A dual side-by-side version basically doubles everything but does allow a second rider to contribute pedal power to get up to 1,000 miles range. Using the Eco Flow Wave 2 that you reviewed, the Pro Max battery, and a custom enclosure effectively makes their e-quad into a micro car/van/camper with a weatherproof body, onboard heat and A/C for around $8,000 to $10,000 US.
Hello and kind regards from Germany. I really enjoy watching your videos - keep it up! Gero D.
I never saw this channel, but Kevin is awesome! Wish I knew him!
Im 118 years old I want to get one and ride it into our local grocery store.
Nice option in bikes though I also feel the need for speed. We have 2 Lectric bikes now and love them. Traffic these days, especially the holiday months, are wicked though. I love the idea of endless miles though be prepared for frequent flat tires based on your roads.
Excellent review, thank you!
Great intro sfx!
Super smooth review with a bonus appearance of Chuck Jagger bike buck pilot!
Got one in August. Love it.
Thank you Hobo and Kevin 🎈
Great review, with good insights from Kevin. The one drawback I see is that it's too wide to share sidewalks and storefront walkways with pedestrians. And for older riders I wonder how comfortable they would be riding in the street and having to cope with any kind of traffic. Your "solar paneled pet trailer" concept is pretty cool--I can imagine someone gearing up like that and taking an extended trip on a series of multi-use/rail trails.
I just got my lectric trike. Where I live there are a lot of paved paths. I haven’t been out yet (I live in MN) but am concerned about riding on paths but wouldn’t ride on the busy streets. Also it was assembled by a bike shop for me. They did a good job. Then I received the mirrors and lock. I’ve tried to put on mirrors but no avail. Don’t think I will need lock. Are mirrors really necessary?
It’s a small step for Kevin but a giant step for mankind!
Perfect bike for a retirement community. Not suitable and intended for actual town use. Still thumbs up.
Town is too far away to walk, but I hate to start an otherwise unused car, just to go to the post office or store. I have often thought I'd get myself a small electric street-legal golf cart or car, but this trike would do just as well, needs no license or auto insurance (homeowners instead) and it will fit in a shed and plug into a regular outlet for charging...
Having owned 2 e bikes, i found that the pedal assist kicks in WHEN you start to pedal. I suggest you try pedaling and use the throttle, then stop pedaling if you want.
Ebikes are a lot of fun when you begin to get older and want to ride but dont want to over exert yourself. Nice vid.
Thanks man for making this video.
Even a two wheel lectric bike would have trouble in that deep gravel. I just kept watching because i like kevin. Met him around the fire in quartzite. Was there
when kevin test drove the 3.0 two wheel bike in camp. Hes a wild but good bike rider. The trike would be good for my wife whos balance is not what it used
to be.
Wish it had reverse! Can you pedal backwards?
Nope
Looking at it, I was thinking about using the wasted space in front of the rear cargo basket for a larger and/or 2nd parallel-connected battery (mounted sideways across the basket front) to help maintain range when fully loaded. I'd also want a low-end grunt gear for going uphill / taking off and an overdrive for the flats. It would also be nice if eBike trailers also had the option for another parallel-connected battery for the same range extending reason when fully loaded. Basically, I want a more capable cargo trike with a trailer. This could all be a bad idea as I'm not sure how far you can push the cargo weight before it becomes too much, overloads the motor and the magic smoke escapes.
Great review. Keep doing the bikes reviews!
By using P12 you can change the time (speed) the motor kicks in Like using P22 to change the top speed.
Okay okay okay.... get this... I think there are reasons Lectric put the weight rates on it. They have set these puppies up to be a mobilty device... there is ONE, well 2 things you need to do tho. The motor is 500W. In the first 2 speeds you can't exceed the legal requirement speed limit of a mobility scooter. Weight max for a mobility scooter here in canada is... 150kgs... or 330lbs. (odd law but I found a write up on it.) What do you need here in Canada for this to be considered a mobilty device that you can take in stores and ride on a sidewalk? 1 I would do what you said and get a perscription... and make copies and keep it on hand. 2 you have to be in a seated position... in other words... I am going to make a wood peice that goes over the pettles so I can sit with my feet flat. When the pettles are no longer opperational... you now have a mobility device that can haul your groceries home... even on the sidewalks (normally illegal for bikes in canada.) Why is this actually important? Long story short... mobility scooter suck rocks. The baskets are crap... you can't just go get groceries in them ... and snow or a curb? Forgetaboutit. I think... eventually once I get one of these bikes and make it into my "gimpy express" we can push that envelope into it being a mobilty scooter. That means apartments or landlords can't say... no Ebikes... they HAVE to allow it. Once it is considered a mobilty device you have a prescription for... there IS a duty of accomidation. That mean... THIS bike could be the IT model for future mobilty scooters... because if we can take the footrest off... then we can go at full speeds when we get out of a store and hit the road... opening up a WHOLE world for people with reduced mobilty.
The makers at Lectric are pretty dang smart to have this all lined up. I did send them a email a couple months ago asking if it was okay to tow with it. (on the bases just because you can, doesn't mean you should) They said you can absolutly tow with it. Unfortunatly it will take me up to 6 months to get a order in. Then, it is game on.
I love mine
Have you tried this on the beach or sand? I am on a horse ranch with lots of sand and beaches nearby, and love the trike so I can carry things.
Any chance you reviewing the Bluetti Ac200L soon ?
Thumbs up 👍 now I have something to look at 😊
Hi Lectric XP 2.0 owner as well as others. 69 years young. Can the rear sprocket be replaced on the axel? I have a Schwinn trike with a 212cc Motor on the back & one with a 500w front wheel. 15 mph is safe. Faster and they wont stop. I think about 20 mph on the Lectric would be safe on long flat Texas roads.
I have a Sun electric trike which I dearly love. One feature not mentioned is a "reverse gear" (actually reverse switch). Does this trike have a reverse feature?
Kevin said "Weeeeeeeee" and I nearly died laughing!
Thanks for sharing.
If you use the brake lock does the brake light stay on?
I need an e trike with "grocery gear" which is a gear that can get a ton of groceries up a steep hill. So far, I have not found one. They all say they can do it, but I doubt it.
The higher weight rating is for the whole bike, obviously. The rider weight is limited by the weight the seat post can bear. The more angled, the less it can hold.
3 lifepo4 batteries in series is 36v can fit back
I just received my trike this week, I like it but I wish it had 3 speeds, it is
a Turtle when taking off in the grass even in 5
I did order another battery so I can ride it farther and charge one battery and still go out and ride, with Bad knees I needed something to get around on and be able to get out on the bike trail.
@ronaldsahn9649 Get it out out of beginner mode and it will take off faster. How far do you want to go? I have one battery and recently rode between Pullman WA and Moscow ID, 7+ miles each direction and after the round trip and a stop at Starbucks 14.6 miles. It was a battery test - the entire trip was on throttle only and once I was up to speed on PAS 3 I would drop down to PAS 1 and leave it there cruising at 13.9 to 14.2 mph. Voltage drop at the end of the drop was measured at 30%, with 70% remaining viable voltage. How far do you want to go?
Love it. I want one! But, I can't afford $1500+ for a bike right now. When they get around $500, I'm in.
Where in the UK can I buy it???
I have zero interest in off-road riding. The 2.6 inch wide tires are one of the reasons I am interested in this trike .... but it needs to hit at least 20 MPH (that would mean having to hunt down some assorted weird sprockets to put between the differential and hub motor).
Did it come damaged like everyone else’s so many reviews say it came poorly packaged and famed rear ends
Mine was perfect.
In traffic lane the portion that slopes for water run off. The slope becomes real obvious on a three wheel bike. In places where ordinance for no bikes on sidewalk.
Lean uphill on those type of roads, it gets to be natural after a while on crested roads.
If you can pedal a bike , I can't see why this bike wouldn't be the best choice for seniors with limitations . It's freedom for a reasonable price .
The 330 lb rider limit is probably due to the seat, seat post or seat down tube strength.
Correct, it's not the weight on the road, it's the weight on the components and the rider is on the seat, the seat post.
Hey Tom, are you going to 2024 RTR?
No. I quit going when it sold out to howa in 2019. We have our own camp now.
Great trike, better review !
How about chronologically accomplished instead of challenged ..... Just saying, "It's not the years, it's the mileage."
Other videos have reported issues with rear wheel bearing failures. Any updates. Your reviews are well covered. Like the bike but wonder about possible rear wheel bearing failure.
I have a special needs child. Can I set it to level 1 and lock it so they can't change it? More than level 1 would be very dangerous for them.
I was hoping to buy this as a delivery vehicle but 12mph! Really? class 2 is 20mph not 12! I've had three strokes, one leg barely works and I can pedal faster than that. It won't go up a hill empty how are you supposed to get up a hill with a load? I have an easy solution. They need to add a high-low range splitter box behind the mid drive like they do on mini bikes. A 10 mph low range for climbing hills and a 20 mph high range for cruising.
Hobo really. If this was. Pwr supply or whatever. You would nail it. 35 miles NOT.
Wrong I take mine on country roads and usually put on 20 miles and have put on 48 miles on one trip.
Wish it was faster
👍👍👍
12 mph, 14 mph pass😢
Great review though
Does Lectric have any plans to make a long range dual battery version?
What’s the advantage of that, over just carrying a second battery?
@@GMC-qo9xiIf you carry a second battery you need someplace to carry it. And that takes up cargo space.
@@wvmontani do you not see the irony? (Ie. it’s a cargo bike.)
@@GMC-qo9xi Yes, but why waste cargo space to carry a battery when it could be integrated into the frame of the bike? That would leave room for real cargo.
@@wvmontani I don’t think it’s worth arguing about and i understand your point that it would be a more ideal way. But logically it doesn’t sound like something that would make a lot of sense for the company to do. The bike is for a much smaller niche market... as it’s very slow, it doesn’t have suspension, it doesn’t have gears even... so the idea that they would make a new frame just to accommodate a second battery when they don’t even offer the other more basic features, make no sense, especially when someone who really wants it can just buy a second battery and strap it on to the bike however they want. Does what I’m saying make sense?
Well, I’m glad I got the two wheel version that is some pathetic top speeds
Your review of it feels very underwhelming. Perhaps Lectric would like to get in touch and make something a little "stronger". Thanks for your review. I will not be purchasing one of these with those specifications.
Reverse Trikes are the future, especially if you want to travel 25+ mph. Very boring product even if a bargain.
Yes. Stability in turns is a real problem for trikes like this, therefore the limited speeds, but it’s still relatively easy to tip.
I am getting a E310 trike from add motor in 2025 if the Lord spare my life, thank you Jesus great video❤
Whats with the bearings falling apart??? are you kidding me??
WHY are you on GRAVEL?... 😂😂😂
The roads where I live are dirt and gravel besides a nearby highway that's obviously off limits for a 12 mph bike.
@@HOBOTECH hobo your out there where it’s nice. To heck with the pavement.
Where's the trike review? Huge Fail.
