The way Dimebag makes that guitar sing in the solo is just pure eargasmic.

Yeah, I can tell that the heavy, extreme genre in not for you... One of the subtle Pantera songs that is slow and dark is 'Floods'.
I think Van Halen will be more your thing... not heavy, more melodic, great guitars and groove-oriented rock w/ quite a bit of keyboards at times... Songs I suggest by Van Halen - 'Dance the night away'... "Why can't this be love" ... "Runnin' with the devil" ... 'Right now'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥
I loved this reaction. There are a couple more calmer songs in their discography that you might be down for. The slow and airy cover of Black Sabbath’s Plant caravan is definitely the calmest of them. The intense and moody song called Floods. The somber yet bristling song called Hollow.
There’s also the lyrically completely vulnerable, beautiful soft western flair of Suicide Note pt1. Which, despite its provocative title, probably will be the easiest one for you to like \m/
And that’s about it. Everything else is pedal to the metal.

The aversion you have to heavy music is the same aversion I have to POP and R&B. Better for the subs if you just stay in your lane probably. Just not a match, had to unsub but good luck.

Stans in the comments acting like the song choice is the reason she doesn't like Pantera lol. She already reacted to Cemetery Gates & I'm Broken & now this song and she said she doesn't like angry vocals....like c;mon she's not going to like any songs by then past Cowboys. Maybe she'll like Suicide Note part 1 or even Power Metal but that's about it, Pantera is all angry & heavy compared to this song. Pantera is not a band to get into right away if you're new to Metal.
Ozzy is a great place to start.

Disappointed? It's Pantera. Realize that Dimebag can play the guitar anyway you can think of. It's his infectious riffs that amaze. No Brittany Spears influence here.
This is still tied to their hair metal roots. I'd suggest you avoid anything after cowboys. It gets progressively darker and more aggressive.

Also, Dimebag Darrell was one of the most technical guitarists ever. He was banned at the age of 16 from battle of the bands and other guitar competitions in multiple states. He was that good. Pantera created a whole new genre, Groove Metal, where the whole premise is being technical musicians to develop a constant groove while listening. I think you should try listening through the grit more. Or maybe look at sheet music from the band if you can read it(not as easy as some would think lol). Awesome commentary though.

I'm guessing that if you don't like how 'severe' Pantera is (which is why I love them,) you'd probably be a fan mostly of their song "Cemetery Gates" off the same album. Give that one a try before you write them off.
Pantera = excellant muscians who are great at metal. This is far from their best work. I don't like this song either. You will definitely respect and like some of their stuff.

@@deangoings The song wasn’t thrown together. The arrangement is absolutely phenomenal. I don’t know if you play guitar but try to play this song. That clean part, I hope your fingers know how to do the splits. That’s all stretch fingering over multiple frets. Now imagine playing it at that tempo.
The riff is simple but has a tight groove and the solo is absolutely epic. Then we get to the lyrics. These lyrics are some of the deepest lyrics Pantera ever wrote.
One of the best songs Pantera ever produced hands down.
