That clock cleaned up nicely. When you put in proper bulbs look at the polarity of new cord. Install a grommet also. Only take a minute or two. Love watching you set out auction lots. Stay as warm as possible
As always, a good clean content video of what could be boring to having a bit of fun and sharing some knowledge... a house update please, I want to see the lawn/LOL
The lesson on replacing the clock hands was a wonderful surprise and so timely for me! I’ve been waiting for a replacement clock kit to arrive. Now I’ll know how to do it properly!😃Thx
The position of the hands, IE setting to 12 o'clock doesn't matter at all. All the hands are in all positions 2x a day, The stack order is important as Alex said, but it will keep the same time correctly no matter where you put the hands. The only exception is clock that has an on the hour chime, and those have a flat so you can't get them wrong.
Without proper stopper new cord might be stripped over time by sharp surface of the metal housing of the clock, in best scenario you or anybody else will blow fuse but in the worse scenario someone may lost life. So please Alex make electric work again with proper cord protection.
Alex you need to be wearing a watchmen cap in this weather like Stephen. Here is where the mother instinct kicks in for me: all your body heat escapes through your head, keep a lid on it then the rest of your body keeps warm. Sorry couldn’t resist, dont want you to get sick. lol. Its nice to see how you do repairs on some items, it shows how much care you take with your antiques and when they go to a new home they are in good working order and safe. That clock would look great in your garage. Im always just amazed at how much you know about your antiques, your knowledge is wide & vast. Thanks for sharing another great day in the life of an Antique Dealer!
I'm a car grammie ( A grandma who appreciates fabulous vehicles) and the sound of that motor in your truck is SWEET! Almost like hearing the power of a Harley. Almost.
That was quite the day. Glad you got the clock fixed up. Did not realize there was such a difference in price between a working and non working clock . The difference is huge. I hope all your family in Colorado are ok. Keep Safe ❤Keep Well ❤
I am very impressed with your work ethic. You are a pro at what you do. I would be so stressed out doing all of that and dealing with the weather also. You have so many things going on. You and your family are amazing.
Ford actually made the best truck in the 70's. Down here in the southern united states there are still many on the road. My father in law had a 72 and it was actually a northern (Ohio) truck. It died after over 500,000 miles on it.
He calls this 'a day off?' My idea of a day off is sitting my butt on the couch, eating a pizza and binging a bunch of movies. You make me feel like a real lazy person, Alex. Haha. :) Good luck with the auction. I hope it goes really well.
that's almost my day at "work" these days, weird thing is I'd love to have this years ago but now I'm getting burnout from it. would much rather fix old junk but got to stay online and pretend to be productive. crazy world.
I was thinking that Mintex clock would be nice in your new garage, work as a night light too, . . . once you said it's value I thought it would look even better in someone elses garage!
We have had unusual weather for Northeastern PA USA. 40's even some 50's. Nights around 35° to 32°. Today we had 28° and it's going down. Brrrr!!!! Love how you know how fix almost everything. Great video.🙂👍
I’m in North Carolina and I know what you mean. We were at 78 on Sunday, high of 71 and low of 65 Monday and the high Tuesday was 65 but that was in the early pre-dawn hours. It spent most of the day around 35-40 and is currently 29! I think in a couple of days we’ll be back around 60 at least. It’s been a very warm winter and now we’re suddenly brought to reality!
Technically, you should mind the polarization of the cord. One will be hot the other neutral. At the wall the hot conductor is the narrow one and the wide is neutral. But since the case is not grounded and the bulb sockets enclosed it's not really a huge issue. I would have probably gone with a 3 wire cord and grounded the case. Also, a grommet to prevent the cord rubbing on the case would have been a good idea. Alternatively some heat shrink or even electrical tape would work.
If you were not moving, Alex, saving old electrical cords until you get enough to burn off the plastic and then taking the copper to a scrapyard could be surprisingly remunerative. Indeed, scrapyards will even buy old electric cords (at a significantly lower price) without the plastic being removed.
Hi Alex and Melissa hope everything going good for the new year. Just had to tell someone, I'm going to be a great aunt. My niece that I said that reminded me of Abigail. She is having a boy in May. Love you all.
Interesting to watch you wire this clock. We had a business of making reproduction PAM clocks and repairing old ones, and I have wired up hundreds of these. We use fluorescent bulbs, though. Gotta check that hand clearance!
It doesn't matter at all the position of the hands when assembling. The order matters as you stated, but setting it to 12 o'clock doesn't matter at all... The gearing is timed, and thru the day all the hands are in all positions 2x a day. The only exception is clock that has on the hour chime, and those have a flat so you can't get them on wrong.
That 2” of snow was so cute. Here in the Kootenays we got about 18” overnight. Another 6” today. Warmer though. Winter is here! Happy New Year! PS: that cord could use a few tape wraps where it enters the steel clock housing. The stopper is also a bushing collar to protect the cord.
Lol! Us Canadians are so funny, trying to one-up each other on things like crappy weather 😂 Sometimes I think I'd rather have a foot of snow but it only be -10C, rather than 3 weeks straight of dry, windy -30C (before windchill!) like what we've had in Saskatoon lately 😉
@@idellekell I knew a lady from South Africa years back when I lived in Edmonton. She noted that while South Africans talked about politics, Canadians talked about the weather. To her, it added up to people liked to talk about what could most easily kill them.
@@idellekell It’s an American thing, too. My mother used to try that on with me and I’d have to remind her fairly often that weather isn’t a competitive sport!
The clock, have you thought about getting a grommet from an auto part store,I know you delt with cars, and any wire going through the fire wall ,the grommet keeps the wire from freying and touching metal.
the Police car looks like it is modelled after how old German Police Cars looked. Nowadays they are blue but some decades ago they where green. Also it says Police in german - Polizei.
I hope Stephen is taking notes for driving in snow as I guess this will be his first winter driving solo. Looking forward to the upgraded snow shovelling options you'll have in the new house next winter (take a look at Ryan's recent video)
First On Race Day (FORD) Thought you'd appreciate that - from one Ford lover to another. Love your vids = Thank you for sharing your life with us and A Happy & Prosperous New You and Yours.
You really should have a plastic grommet where the cable passes through the metal frame, that would not pass a PAT test over here, actually you would not be allowed to sell it. Over time the metal casing can cut through the cable rendering the entire fitting live, and or possibly causing a fire through short circuit arcing, they are a very common cause of electrical appliance fires.
Your son seems like a fine young man! All of your kids are great! You and your wife have done a great job raising them!
That clock cleaned up nicely. When you put in proper bulbs look at the polarity of new cord. Install a grommet also. Only take a minute or two. Love watching you set out auction lots. Stay as warm as possible
Stephen you are just the coolest guy to help dear old Dad!!!!
I'd say you actually do need something like that rubber grommet where the cord comes out, to keep the cord from abrading against the metal.
What fun! Just like rewiring a lamp! I remember my grandmother being so surprised when I rewired her favorite lamp.
As always, a good clean content video of what could be boring to having a bit of fun and sharing some knowledge... a house update please, I want to see the lawn/LOL
Alexander we love watching you take things part and fix them.
The lesson on replacing the clock hands was a wonderful surprise and so timely for me! I’ve been waiting for a replacement clock kit to arrive. Now I’ll know how to do it properly!😃Thx
I made a ceramic “owl wall clock” in the ‘70’s I would have found this info helpful then 😂

I liked the last jewellery auction. Picked up a Little Santa bag of items that put a little fun in Christmas

I remember FORD...found on road dead...you proved em wrong 76 F350!
Spray the cloth, not the item, leaks could ruin your item.
good job on the clock! thumbs up! Trish
Thanks Alex!

My old '73 Mustang Mach 1 started faithfully in Regina until it hit -70 F with the wind chill. The gas pedal and ignition froze solid.

Yes the grommet for sure
Yep, it's an electrical safety nightmare with an ungrounded case and no grommet, I hope Alex has his public liability insurance paid up

Would a chrome cleaner alleviate the pitted, dull look of the metal band on your clock? Happy to see Stephen helping Dad.
Let's put it like this the older stuff works great it's the new stuff they put out that sucks
Beautiful job on the clock, Surgeon Alex🙌🏻💫

just make sure you use the side of the new cord with tiny ribbing as your neutral (white) side.
Western Washington is finally see normal temperatures and the snow is melting..slowly. it's definitely been an oddly snowy winter here..

That was awesome to watch.
great ideas on staying busy for sure :)
Fixture wire insulation is high temperature rated..Thats why the chord was scorched but the inner wires were not
Fix or repaid daily hahaha. We always said found on roadside dead lol I love my ford truck!!
Then there is “ fix it again Tony” for Fiats.🖤🇨🇦
Tamara that's funny thx
neutral is the ribbed or id line .which goes to screw shell of socket/ hot is plain =center contact of bulb
