Jello salads were so popular because in the past gelatin was very hard to make. Only the rich could afford to serve it. It was a very high status symbol to have on your table. Then a man named Knox started making dry gelatin from cow hooves, a by-product of the tanning industry in Gloversville NY. So now anybody could have gelatin. Mr. Knox became very wealthy and endowed his home city of Johnstown, NY with many donations and buildings. Gloversville was known as the Glove manufacturer to the world in it's day. My Mother worked in a Glove factory there that made the gloves for Queen Elizabeth on her Coronation.

I'm a charm bracelet fan. Ended up combining charm bracelets into a necklace because I'd collected so many! Wish I could hear a story for each charm, looks like the owner had amazing vacations all over the world!

My daughter worked in a Pharmacy and introduced me to little sealable bags. I use them to keep my jewelry in - to keep the pieces separated so they don't damage each other. Plus to keep sets together. They come in a wide assortment of sizes and I love the organization it gives me. Just an idea for you. Keep the videos coming, love your channel.

I though how someone made the charm bracelets of their travels, and now they're just in a pile. Who was that? What were they like? Did they go those places before plane travel was common? Breaks my heart. And the engagement ring and wedding band - how could that be lost to the family. My grandmother's is lost due to some blended families and poorly written wills and it kills me.

Brings back many memories of helping my grandmom sort out her auction finds. Sometimes at estate sales there would be boxes and boxes for about 5 to 10 dollars. Full of little things. I guess families of these Estate sales did not realize sometimes small things can be worth more than that knock off dinning set lol. Or the print of Renoir. But nowadays there is the internet and people can look such items up . My grandmom once had a Chipndale couch. Very rare . They did not make them often.

I have a BIRKS silver charm bracelet exactly like the first one show, I’ll have to count the charms, it is so loaded, I can’t even wear it. It’s 59 years old. I remember pretty much all the charms and when my parents bought them and where they travelled. I have some pretty unique charms. One is a pineapple from Hawaii. The body of the fruit is almost like a basket weave, so you can see through it. Inside are green fossilized lava pieces. That one was from 1972 or so. Charms back then were so detailed and well made.

Even if it’s just junk from the 80s :) We research the brands we don’t know and I’m surprised by How much I have learned. On AMMO NYC TH-cam page, they wash for the first time a 1978 F250 Lariat Camper Special that has only 139 original miles that was sitting in a barn for 42 years! The truck reminds me of yours but different colors. It looks amazing after it was cleaned.

Love the Turtle necklace ad turtles bracelet. I collect anything with turtles. I have a silver turtle spoon from Boston that is over a hundred years old now.

I really appreciate you embracing this new type of content, especially as you'd probably rather be elbows deep in an oily engine or digging through an old barn. 😏

Please show us the jewellery all laid out. Love seeing jewellery, it shows so much about the people who owned them. The books are such a great find. You will do well with this purchase xxx Please also tell us how you make out and if any one item was super special x

Years ago we had our two rings soldered together usually because they were so worn that they were almost worn through.

My wedding and engagement set used to rub against each other. I lost a small diamond because of it. I had the stone replaced, and I had the ring set soldered together, about 30 years ago. I’m glad I did! No more rubbing. No more fussing to keep them together.

What a blast! The fly is a jelly belly. Marcasite on the sterling spider's leg. The first black brooch looks like Weiss, which is just one of many desirable names in costume jewelry. ( Eisenlberg, Lisner, Star, etc.) Rhinestones that are prong set usually indicate a higher quality. A6000 is a great repair adhesive as it lasts forever. Be wary of "sick" clear rhinestones. This was fun. I miss jewelry resale. You can often "shake" a twist of 2 or 3 chains loose from each other, and I use to use 2 thick straight pins to slowly coax open the really knotted ones apart. Check out the tinfoil, salt and boiling water to get the initial tarnish off your chains. I prefer Simicrome polish over the chalky, residue leaving Wrights polish. Good luck, God Bless you and you are going to do more than well on recovering your initial investment!!

What a fun trip down memory lane! I’ve owned similar jewelry to the pins. Old cookbooks are such fun to read. They give a view of life in the 1800s. My favorite are the charm bracelets. I’d love to look at each charm and guess where they’re from. Thanks Alexander.
