@@stevetorster that’s why he commented about it
“I went to a rave… and the rave came back with me” has to be the most amazing description of that issue 😂😅
I like how Angelina actually takes time to explain everything so even a basic human with no car knowledge can understand as well.
well, she's a teacher after all
Facts 👌
As long as Paul, Sandro and Angelina keep being on this channel, I'll keep watching. This is the best channel I've come across in literally years.
donut media group is perfect for car lovers forreal
Dude, totally agree. Those 3 are the best for these videos.
I love donut n this channel for reactions to mechanical stuff , but what are u watching that this is ' the best channel ' that you've come across in years 😂
Fuck I'm not a car lover,I don't own a car, I don't have a drivers license, but all of their enthusiasm just gives me joy to watch (and learn, even though I'll probably never put it into practical use)
@@dariusbaja21 I mean, "best channel" or "best" anything is pretty subjective. What I meant was for my personal interests and in general things I enjoy watching, this channel has me hooked like no other that I've watched in recent years. There are a lot of very good channels I watch for very different content, not just car stuff, but for me after watching a couple of videos the hype just dies down very fast and I just stop watching that channel in general, but this one is different, at least for now, I've watched every video so far and have very much enjoyed them. We'll see if that stays true in the long run, but at least for now it seems so, for me at least. Sorry for the long monologue.
"When the battery gets low, it gets drunk and makes poor decisions" lol
Same.
Being an introvert with depression sure sucks, doesn't it?
Had a battery go out at Christmas 70 miles from home, charged it enough to get to the parts store and changed it. Transmission stayed in "Limp" mode and wouldn't change gears. Going 35 mph at 4500 rpm on a four lane isn't fun. Had to clear codes to get it to change gears. I keep a code reader/eraser in the glove box now.
@@Psythik So hard.
0:34 Fun fact: Not actually a dolphin sound! Flipper's iconic chirping is actually a pitched up Kookaburra laugh. Real dolphin sounds are... not too different, but not quite as sharp.

@@jk9554Trying to decide if I should tell you about the bald eagle first or the MGM lion. Don't worry--I'll spare you the knowledge of how they got the raptor sounds in _Jurassic Park_
@@GSBarlevThe lion was tortured and the Golden Eagle is actually a. Red Tailed Hawk isn't it because eagles rarely make noise and when they do it's more of a squawk or a beaking sound.
I'll also add there's no such thing as Slow motion audio. Audio comes in sound waves and they cannot be slowed down so what people do is alter the original audio or substitute with something else. In older movies this was mostly record a scratch sound returning to original sound and now it's all substitute audio design.
Most singers use extreme amounts of auto tune and studio editing because artists like a Miley Cyrus have the voice of a waffle house waitress. And pretty much every conceivable rhythm has been made so nearly all music is sampling older music, similarly to how birds pass songs through generation.
Some of the most common sound effects in production are bell peppers, celery breaking, glass breaking ,explosions, gunshots, birds and ambiences, tomatoes bring eaten.
@@infernaldaedra I'm not sure what you're on about. Sound waves-like all waves-can absolutely be "slowed down." It's like stretching a slinkie-doubling the duration of an audio recording will double the wavelength / halve the frequency, though modern software can, of course, correct for that.
@@GSBarlev No it can't that's only changing the pitch as sound cannot be slower. Even the best software is just editing the original sound waves to play longer to match film which is not correct. It's all just approximate same thing as the eagle screech
I keep wishing you could bring Angelina on full time but then I'd feel bad for all the students who'd miss out on here awesome teaching abilities at Riverside!

I noticed the audio mix is kind of a little all over the place in this episode. From mics being super quiet to being super loud and music volume overpowering the dialogue at times. Also the music changes and places when they come in and out are also kind of wonky. Just a few notes.
A lot of other comments backing you up on this one, although yours is a little bit more insightful/descriptive.
Damn I was thinking it was my tokes and going deaf
Yeah this audio is super distracting.
Seems like maybe they were giving a new editor a chance. They didn't do such a great job 😅
Yeah seriously, at times it’s like they have someone in a car blasting music with the windows rolled up right next to them. No reason to have music when we’re actively trying to hear what the mechanics are saying, not just watching visuals.
I love how it genuinely seems like paul is becoming comfortable on camera , like in the first one he was sorta just there saying a few things mostly just for his experience but now hes like leading it himself
this should be a series, cause i love hearing about this stuff but sometimes there isn't an explanation for the ones less car savy to understand why it's funny or alarming, i love this.
To whomever decided to chose some of these background music, please never again. It is unfitting and quite distracting.

Love these segments! I was a Ford Service Advisor. A guy accidently put Def in his diesel fuel tank. It was a new truck, maybe 1 year, at the time. Biggest customer pay cash ticket I've ever had. IIRC, it was like $17,000! Ford sells a kit, with most of the needed parts, just for this happening. Luckily the guy realized it pretty quickly & didn't do any internal damage!
It’s fantastic to see Nolan back again, but my man Sandro needs a lifetime contract, just pay him in boost parts!
I love Angelina, she breaks things down smoothly. On teacher mode 24/7

Some folks really shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a car... or a tool... or allowed to hold a tool..
Working through similar levels of "why would someone do this like this?!?" on my house makes me concur.
And some are just a tool😊
Or be allowed to operate a vehicle in the first place.
But they're out there, driving next to you. Sure some can be seen right away, jiggly wheels, smoke shooting out in every direction or sparks flying from the wheels. Others, you won't see until their jalopy has smashed into the line of cars you're in at the light turning the car behind you into an inappropriately bent taco, which is now under your car.
Some shouldn’t even look at a key if I’m gonna be honest
Angelina's teaching skills really show through all the videos lol . Dumbing down each process for most people to at least get a basic idea of how things work.. the kids at RCC must be so excited to go to class. I'm sure her courses have filled exponentially since this series. Good for her!
Yo! We had a super similar issue to the one at 10:20. One of our oldest customers had a Ducati 999 with 90,000 miles (dude was awesome). He had lowsided around 10,000 miles on the left side of the bike, where the ECU and main wiring harness are. around 80,000 miles the bike started randomly shutting down on him. We noticed on a test ride that the exhaust was LEAKING GAS. Pulled off the air ducts and the injectors would just lock wide open randomly and spray fuel in like a fire hose.
It turned out that all those years ago the crank position sensor wire got pinched and had been corroding for all those years. Normally that might show up as an ignition issue, because it is the crank sensor. The triple 9 was batch fire though, so, they use the CPS for fuel as well and don't have a cam position sensor (1/2 the fuel every time the crank goes around). Replaced the wires and connector with a plug from a scrap harness we had (2021 Diavel had the same plug coincidentally) and the dude was on the road again.
Mechanic: "Your vehicle is possessed by Satan? 🤔"
*sees the pedals*
Mechanic: "😳 can't argue with that"
Went out for a road service when I first started working in heavy duty, and I had this issue. Driver was like "I think somethings wrong" and opens the door, and I was just like "I think you're right".
"Did you call a catholic priest before coming here?"
Hey, we've all had a possessed car. I had a volvo that had a clock that only worked in reverse
He hit the brake, the brake hit back
If you listen, they said it was on a "semi truck." they use air, and in that case, that is the treadle valve has failed
The second week of owning a new diesel pickup, my wife filled it with gas. Luckily she realized what she did before starting it. There was a mechanics shop a few blocks away that she asked for help, because I was out of town working. They came over, pushed it by hand to their shop and got to work on it immediately. They dropped/drained the tank, flushed lines, and changed fuel filter. Then they only charged me $200, they really saved my butt.
That's a lifelong mechanic shop in my eyes. 200 for a drain and flush + getting it there.
$200... I wonder if it is based on the beauty of your wife
@@zeusdarkgod7727 I do all my own work. But if I needed something done by a shop, I’d go back there for sure. I do always recommend them to anyone needing their vehicles worked on.

"Customer States" is how horror stories begin, but you have to admit when it's describing a sound the car's making, customer descriptions are surprisingly on point.
the music at 0:33 was extremely distracting. I thought an invisible popup ad started up.

The same. I even refreshed the page thinking youtube fucked up and mixed two video audios together. Such a shitty editing idea

speaking of the neutral safety switch, for my 2014 chevy impala, if there is no power as in the battery is dead, you are neither getting that car into neutral or the key back without the dissassembly of the dash or center console, to depress either of the two safety release switches
You guys should bring the mechanics, truckers and the donut gang together once a month for a "Share war stories" kind of podcast.
I don't have any tattoos myself but Angelina having ones she can actually refer to when teaching people about cars is awesome
I have many VW Rabbit diesels, and the owners manuals specifically says you can use up to 50% gasoline mix for cold weather.
I love seeing how much fun you all have filming this :)
One of my favorite video series. So glad you guys are doing this and have found such great people to be a part of it.
Nolan’s back!! Miss ya buddy! Long time no see!
The truck one depending on how old the truck is mentioned in the video could be a spinning s,cam inside the brake drum lining. I have had a similar thing although it wasn't that aggressive. And it was a jumping/spinning s cam.
They are what pushes the brake pads into the linings and cause of the s shape they sometimes let go so you get the s flattening out which in turn back pressures the pedal with air..
Maybe..
Regarding the XMax dash; a friend drove home to LA from SF going too fast for his his car. When he turned the car off at home, everything kept going, the dash lights came on, the headlight came on, and the engine didn't turn off. Turns out the regulator on the alternator failed and was over charging the battery and apparently, anything that had a capacitor got a boost too.
It's always amazing to me how a good mechanic can take, like, 5 seconds and hit on what the issue is. True experts in the field!
Except these mechanics are idiots.
Who knew using your eyes could be so helpful?
@chinchin3274 eyes? My guy, my friends uses all of his senses and always gets it right diagnosing a car.
Juat gonna see alot of videos or reverse engineer what could cause the issues. Most of the time it's something simple, I work on my own cars & bikes. Saves me money & I know it's done right. I do things by the book which would cost alot of money, done my own fork seals, bearings, wiring, oil changes, problem finding ect. It's like therapy for me, I have worked on other poeples cars / bikes but doesn't feel same. Not as satisfying, anyone can learn but you have to be willing to learn. Figuring out what's the issue is the hardest part. Taking things apart & buying new things is easy. Knowing smells, sounds, touch (vibrations ect), then your eyes for visual problems. A master will know exactly what's up just by a smell or point them in the right direction.
Which does take alot of knowledge. There is simple smells like your clutch, breaks, fluid. It only looks easy when they point it out but took them years at least for me to figure out why those things were happening. Then people wonder why they're so expensive, it's just like a doctor... they'll give you Antibiotics to fight the infection. Ones that will kill the bad bacteria the fastest, might of only been a 10min appointment but you paid lets say 250. You pay for their knowledge, not the time spent. Just some people don't understand this. It's one of the reasons why I don't wanna be a mechanic as people always would fight me about the price so it's just a headache & they won't understand anyway.
making sure your vehicles are serviced & replace the used parts when needed. Using the correct oil ect is how you keep your motor happy. Otherwise if you neglect it, it'll fall apart. I do all that myself as it's pretty simple, only things I wouldn't touch is the engine valve clearance ect. Rather pay the money and get it done right.
I love how these videos are both educational and entertaining. I’d love to see more customer states videos in the future!
Had a Versa come in one time without a neutral safety switch at all. Had a button next to the shifter you had to press in order to put it in drive. And the starter required you to hood the key for 3-5 seconds in order for the car to actually crank and start up.
I love that you guys added what the fix was and wants was wrong
I've seen someone put gas in a diesel transport mini bus for a manufacturing company. The most hilarious catastrophic failure (for me). All I could say was "it didn't feel like a hot dog in a hallway?"
Love that saying lol used it constantly when i worked on cars. My favorite was plugging tires that had a hole or screw or whatever right on the edge of tread and sidewall and you didn’t know if the plug would work until “well that felt like a hot dog down a hallway”

What is with the weirdly mixed song playing in the background the entire time, it is so distracting
Ok im in love with Angela. She's articulate with her words and she uses all her understanding of car witchcraft to make her assessment. If something stumps her, she pauses and thinks for a bit and comes up with the most logical and plausible assessment to what might have caused the issue. She's not recalling her previous work experiences and blurt out the fix she applied, but she's really trying to figure out what parts are supposed to do what, and what effects might that have been if that part was defective. She demonstrates that understanding very well, and I know I'm in good hands if Angela is working on my car.

Question: why is it sometimes hard to start the ignition if the wheel is turned while the car is off?
1:56 This is why in the UK all cars over 3 years old require a yearly MOT test, it stands for Ministry of Transport and is a yearly roadworthy test where literally everything as regards safety is checked right down to the seat belts, headlight alignment, etc. The stuff on US roads in states without a similar system scares me, there are tons of poorly maintained vehicles driving at 70+ mph on the highway that could fall apart with one small bump and even end up launching what could essentially be considered missiles in any direction at other cars…
Love this, can you please make a game show out of this sort of thing? I love trying to guess the issue, but a lot of channels don't explain, just assume that you can see the issue too. Thanks to Donut (and some other channels) I was recently able to get a great deal on a nice car and avoided some serious lemons.
I do wish yall did more tru k stuff but honestly i still love yalls channel
I had an issue with a scooter that was similar to the rave car. Every time I would turn on the turn signal, the lights would dim and the rpm guage would go up on every blink. Pretty sure it was a short somewhere, and also had a rip in the air intake hose, but didn't have any way to take off the plastic shell to get to anything, so I just sold it and upgraded to a cruiser motorcycle. Everything is much easier to get to for maintenance and repair on a motorcycle lol.

My Dad lives in NJ where you cant pump your own fuel. One day the attendant put a full tank of gas in his truck. Thankfully my Dad noticed the receipt was a way different price than he was expecting and sussed what happened right away and didnt start the truck up!
So what happened after he noticed the receipt?
not being allowed to pump your own gas is one of the dumbest laws ever.
@@Berm_Blasterhe realized it was gas nor diesel or vice versa
@@Berm_Blaster Presumably, routed the shop charges (assuming they didn't just dump and flush the tank right there in the gas station lot) to the gas station and refused to pay for the diesel.
I remember having to listen to the rant from my father after my sister put the wrong fuel in my mother's 94 miata when she borrowed it. That thing did NOT like modern enthanol gas. It was fine with the E10, but the engine said no to the higher percentage stuff. Massive cuts to MPG and concerns about decay of seals/lines from the E10, the engine making upset noises with higher percentages.
I used to manage a gas station and we had a VERY new tank driver deliver fuel to our store. He dumped 7000 gallons of diesel in one of my 12000 gallon gasoline tanks and DIDN'T TELL ANYONE. Within the first 6 hours we had over a dozen complaints. There ended up being nearly 60 people affected. The fuel company's insurance paid for all the repairs but it affected people's trust of my station for a months.
Supposedly the driver said he "couldn't find" our diesel tanks to fill (either he parked on top of the cover and didn't want to move or did not look for it). For those who don't know, generally, the covers to the tanks are color coded. So he knew he was dumping in the wrong tank.
My company has a fleet and we used to have a diesel Dodge branded MB Sprinter. One of my drivers put gasoline in it one day, immediately noticed something was wrong after starting it, then DROVE IT a mile back to the shop where he proceeded to let it idle until the engine shut off. I had no hope for the engine but we tried anyway. Got all the gas out, flushed everything with diesel as much as we could. Dumped the oil and changed it (because it was also full of gas), then started it back up and it ran another 13K miles before I sold it. I was completely amazed the thing ran with no apparent issues at all.
Donut struck gold when they found Angelina, Paul, and Sandro. Y'all should do some price is right stuff w em!

The rave dash. I had a similar problem with Mt Hyundai Sonata. Driving home dash light started dancing around, Odometer and RPM gauges started swinging back and forth. If you turned off the car, everything was OK for about 8 to 10 miles and it started again. Took it to the dealer, (covered under warranty) they fixed the problem. I was told that the back passenger side radar sensor had gone bad and was confusing the computer. Those sensor are like the size of a nickel. No telling what would / will happen if the front one, about 4" x 6" goes bad.
Love these "customer states" type videos.
For people who REALLY wanna know : the 4G steering column uses a belt between the assist motor and steering rack and the belt slips , that's why it makes that noise
Mercedes tech here. That video clip with the cluster being a Christmas tree. That transmission leak through the trans connector is a super common issue on all benz with the 722.6 transmissions. Fills TCM and kills the CAN network 😂, I wouldn’t do it to a customers car but one I’ve bought I’ve just removed the TCM and flushed with with alcohol, let it dry and plug it back in then replace the failed trans connector Oring and let her ride 😂
Angelina making the backdoor joke killed me 🤣😂. If you got smoke coming out your tail pipe see your doctor lmfao
0:40 guys wtf is with the music. It overpowers the speaker, completely unnecessary
Angelina is the cat's meow. It's awesome she's passing on what she knows, there's far too many 'techs' who just follow what the computer says and load up the parts cannon.
5:46 This is a 1.4L “LUV” which has numerous common failure points. While it isn’t uncommon for the charge tubes to leak at the intercooler due to crappy OEM connections, it usually only results in the car throwing an underboost code and dropping power.
Another possibility is the turbo oil feed line (which is run UNDERNEATH the turbo heat shield 🙄) has baked the oil inside and is now starving the turbo bearing.
However, given that there also seems to be a lot of white smoke, it’s possible the turbo housing has cracked internally (not uncommon on the stock Garret turbos on the LUV, just not usually this bad) and the turbo is now burning coolant.
My company got two new company cars with all the company logo's and writing etc on them, looked really good. They are diesel SUV's and have the only diesel fuel sign in behind the fuel filling door and on the tank cap as well. One of the office ladies took the car to see a client and needed to fill the vehicle before returning to the office, the fuel station was only a kilometer or two from the office, she put half a tank (around 38 Liters) of unleaded petrol into the car. It made it back to the office before it shut off and wouldn't start again. After discovering the mistake the vehicle had to be towed to the dealerships garage and the whole fuel system drained and the motor fully inspected, luckily no major damage was done but we did have a very embarrassed lady in the office.
What happened to Sandro? Glad to see Nolan again!
He couldn't be there 'cause he was chillin' with the boyz.
The spark timing on that animation has way to much advance, leading pretty much to the pre ignition even with the right fuel 🤣
In a pinch you can run a gas engine off ~50/50 gas/diesel mix. Not sure if it would start but it will run on that mix. Only tried this with red(off road) diesel(shouldn't be different than clear/green diesel). Did it in an old caprice for about 30 miles. Ran for years no problem afterwards. Note this was back in the early 2000's so assuming things haven't changed much in the fuel game sense then.
Yeah we had a customer come in for their oil change, 2005 mazda mpv, interior and exterior looked really good. On the other hand timing cover and both valve covers were leaking oil, oil pressure switch was leaking, both axle shafts were busted, power steering fluid was black, brake pedal had a lot of air in it, water pump was leaking, and I probably missed something
Love this channel. Angelina is my favorite. She seems awesome to hang out with and talk about cars with
As a mechanic for nearly 20 years now I gotta say in the words of Van Halen “im hot for teacher” she knows her stuff and it’s badass
@9:00 My dog does the same thing when I tickle their belly.
3:35 My 3.5 Ecoboost Taurus had the water pump catastrophically fail and dump all the coolant, along with a lot of metal, into the oil pan. It fucked every bearing in that motor, which aren't serviceable. To fix would require a new block. So we cleaned it up, put on a new timing chain and water pump, and it's been chugging along just fine for almost 80k miles now.
As far as the brake pedal one goes, it's an air brake system the treadle valve (valve that regulates air based on pedal input) is capable of causing this but it's generally done on purpose. A new valve will do it. Essentially the resistance pushes the pedal back fast enough it will bounce back and re-apply the brakes, causing them to re-release and so on. It isn't necessary an issue as even new treadle valves are capable of doing this depending on the design. The Freightliner Cascadia it's mounted in is going to do this easily even when new
I want Angelina to be my teacher!!
She’s awesome. Great guests, Donut! Keep it up! 🙏🏽
Correct me if Im wrong, but arent diesel pump nozzles bugger than gasoline ones so you cant accidently fill a gas car with diesel like the last clip? If im right, that means the wife somehow fought and forced it into that filler neck, or she like... dribbled it in lol
Depends if it’s high flow or not. At least where I’m from they’re the same size, however the latch that holds it to the pump requires two hands to release and it’s covered in !!!DIESEL!!!! Signs.
I come here for this comment. I drive a diesel-fueled delivery truck for a living. In my state, every diesel nozzle I've seen has a larger diameter so it won't fit in a gasoline filler hole to make it impossible to make that mistake. Also, like the other replier, the handle is COVERED with green diesel markings making it difficult to not know you're grabbing the wrong juice.
@@red_bearded_brian In my country if diesel nozzle is also bigger/different, you can still push it into a gas system but you gotta use alot of force so you should notice it already if it doesnt fit lol.
It's more of a convention than a standard, definitely plenty of ways for this to not save you.
Mercedes had an issue with their 5 speed transmissions where the connector would leak fluid into the harness and it would creep all the way up to the inside of the car under the passenger footwell where the TCM was and would brick the TCM. They still have an issue with cam position sensors leaking oil through the connectors into the engine harness which then takes out the ECM and you need an ECM and an engine harness. No bueno.
The "ILLUSION OF KNOWLEDGE" plays a big roll w/these segments!
2:44 immediately had me cackling with that accent
