If Mazda can build a car with such premium materials inside at that price, it proves Volvo, Audi, Merc, BMW, Jaguar are ripping us off! People seen driving those others aren't smiling, those are hunger pains! I'd rather have the Mazda and food on the table, thanks.
As the owner of a CX-5 and new CX-9 You may want to check out the vehicle control screen One neat feature I love is the walk away locking feature since it will automatically lock the doors when you turn off the car and walk away.
I think hands down Mazda has the best infotainment system when it comes to using it the idrive like style of it is perfect for driving and not distracting u
That door handle on the rear passenger door that made you pull your key out is why I like the Volvo XC60. You walk up and pull the handle and it just opens in one motion, on any door.
I picked up the Grand Touring Premium Trim maybe last month. Some critiques I have is that I'm a fairly tall guy at 6'5" and I have an issue getting comfortable with the seats. The backing is ok but where my butt lies it's not quite comfortable. Also, Mazda has been saying for like 8 months about adding Apple/Android Auto and they still haven't. Back up camera gets dirty and wet EXTREMELY often. I have those parchment seats too and they are actually very good at staying clean. Gas mileage isn't that good even at highway. The USB ports suck at charging even at the 2 amp slots, have always had to use the cigarette charger instead. Bluetooth had a horrible delay while playing music. Other than that it's not a bad compact suv. Happy for the most part.
Electronic parking brake heated seats and AWD shifter switches have claimed the space where cup holders used to be found. Now you need to do yoga every day and have no arthritis to reach out for your drinks. Notice no room for cell phone, keys, etc in the center console
Great video Dave as usual. Have to agree with you on those cupholder positions. That tall gas station flask of coffee in the morning gets a ton of elbow bumps!
thanks for the video! 1 'stat' that I was interested in, maybe other viewers too, is the ground clearance on this AWD version. I'm comparing it to the Subaru Crosstrek.
I was going to add. I have a 2017 touring cx5. Smart city brake support is now standard. All exterior led lights also with drl. Makes me wonder why the interior lights are not led though. A little quirk in my opinion.
The cargo space is so small, Forester and CRV both are close to 73cf, CX-5's cargo volume is more like Honda's HRV, it's like between micro compact CUVs and compact CUVs. Then cx9 is huge and too big, Mazda really needs to bring their CX8 to the states or give us a new CX7.
I test drove a new 2017 model and thought it was noisier and had a stiffer ride than my 2013 Ford Escape 1.6 Turbo so I passed on it.. just slightly quicker.
Were you going from a higher end trim with your Escape into one that would be considered lesser trim with the Mazda? All manufactures use more sound insulation and a higher grade with each trim level. My wife's Escape SE is Much quieter than the base model with the base engine. We also tested a higher end model with the larger engine and it was also much quieter than the SE (middle) trim. More insulation, and the engine didn't have to work as hard as our 1.6 turbo. Just curious if this may have been a factor?
This SUV needs to have a minimum of 200 horses. I hope Mazda boosts this for the upcoming generation. Remember the AWD version is considerably heavier than the Front wheel drive version and should have received a horsepower jump.
love it, might lease it as a secondary car, but damn those rear release latches for the backseat are sucha useless gimmick if you still have to go anyway to either adjust the head rest or even the front seats to let the back seats go down lol.
I'm going to return my lease this summer. I currently have a Hyundai Elantra and I'm looking to upgrade to a smaller crossover with AWD. I can't decide between this or the Hyundai Tucson. They're both similar in size, capability, and price point; with only a few minor differences like Apple Car Play and warranty. I'm in the Boston area and I just want to not be stuck in the snow. EMD, what's your opinion on the two and how they stack up against each other?
Megan M with the Tucson you do have the option of a turbo. The cx5 is a great car in dynamics and has slightly better fuel economy. Some people have figured out how to modify android auto into the car
souls3029 you really can't talk about reliability when a car maker offers a 20year 200k mile warranty and a 120k bumper to bumper for an extra 2k. And as far as power the Tuscan has much much more tourqe. In a bigger vehicle tourqe is more important than hp. There's a reason I'm dropping my Infiniti q60rs for a Kia stinger gt later this year. Hyundai and Kia are the best right now when it comes to non premium brand build quality. Handling and steering has been significantly improved and car reviewers as of now are saying the modern Hyundai Kia vehicles with the IRS handle and ride better than Mazda products. ( Savage geese, redline reviews etc.) the cx5 is a nice car and has a good handling feel for a crossover suv, but it lacks power. After driving one with my gf the first thing we said was at 60 mph and above the thing felt pretty gutless on passing power. It has been the same complaint by consumers and reviewers alike. There's a reason the 2.5 turbo is getting dropped into this and the Mazda 6. It needs it.
Thanks, Matthew M! Lol Apple CarPlay isn't really the end all/be all. I really like the drive and feel of both, which makes this decision pretty hard. :) And, thanks to all who've responded with helpful info. Great thing is that I have a few months left to my lease. I'm test driving now to get as-close-to accurate/crappy weather and what to expect. Souls3029, definitely taking your advice to test out other vehicles in this segment. I don't know why I already feel biased, but I just can't do it with Honda and Toyota. Not that they're bad cars or companies. I just want something that stands a little out from the crowd. Again, thanks to you all good peoples! Cheers!
I've been driving my 2017 CX-5 all winter long in Wisconsin and it is great on snow/ice - handling is very sure footed and better than my wife's Audi Q5 which has a tendency to slide round corners. Apple Car Play is still being worked on by Mazda and will be available as an update... though that has been the official word for some time. Overall, I think the Mazda is a class above Hyundai.
Get that diesel figured out for America, Switch out the wheels for something more classy and make the ventilated seats from the new Mazda 6 an option and i'm a buyer. If not ill probably be taking a harder look at the 2019 RDX when it arrives.
Hi! Thanks for the video! I loved this review, and this may be my future car! I've noticed you reviewed only the Grand Touring trims. In future videos, may I make a suggestion on reviewing a lower trim? Grand Touring may be too much for some people like college students. Other than that, great review!
What do you think of the power/acceleration? I've got a Mazda 3 with the same engine and it's fine but I'm worried about all the extra weight of the CX-5.
Hi , here in Canada the 2018s are having lots of issues with vibration , cold start issues, noisy engines, let us know if you experience it ,from what's on the internet seems Mazda knows about it and is working on a fix, recall expected soon
Hi Dave, I'm in the market for a new vehicle that is good in the snow and was wondering if you recommend between the CX3 and CX5, or the HRV and the CRV, Thanks!
I got 15 Mazda 3 and I still waiting for Android Auto for almost 4 years now which they promised but instead they disabled wifi so we cant even utilize that. People are trying hard to hack the infotainment system as it is very poor. BTW that cup holder will definitely get in the way. It is even more shallower than my mazda3. Also keep in mind, Mazda trunk has high load floor which make putting things in there very difficult
BTFU1851 strong enough if you know how to drive. Ever notice how many people merge onto freeways going 45 miles an hour? Clearly they don’t know they should be merging onto the freeway at the speeds the cars on the freeway are going. Unfortunately most people are idiots.
I loved the handling on my 2016 especially in the snow but that interior space is an issue. I guess that's their way of saying, get the cx9 then....ehh mine got traded in early because of it. Mazda work on more space and/or maybe make a pickup truck again!
In my opinion, you hit the worst feature of the CX5 and the reason I bought the RDX. The cup holders and arm rest configuration is the absolute worst in the class. In no way should the drinks be that far back and in the way of your arm on the resting place. Bad job MAZDA!!!
bdkane721 then again an RDX adds about 5 to 7 thousand in price? I learned to live with the bumping of a water bottle on occasion but I rarely keep soda or fast food type stuff in cars. If I eat or drink a fountain soda...its sitting down inside the location. But then again not everyone is like that.
Really nice looking car in the outside, but once you're in, it is hard to move around, unlike the CRV, so roamy. Visibility in CX5 is non-existent as well. Oh, and lower on the ground compared to other compact SUVs.
HALWG51 I think having a crossover in between the cx 5 and the cx 9 could screw up sales for the cx 9. I think Mazda should create a strong off road vehicle to compete with Jeep Wranglers and Toyota Forerunners. Just my opinion though.
that car is going to be from 39-42 thousand. This car starts at 23?? Since we're playing this game, I think I'll just wait for the 2020 Tesla Roadster.
No remote start, rear vent and apple car play? That touch screen looks old. I was really considering this but nvm. I’ll get a CR-V. This car needs to really catch up. Looks is the only thing going with this car.
Hi, Dave, this is greetinf from Julia at the Joytutus brand, specializing in auto parts, shall we know if you are interested in reviewing our products?
blah In this case I really want to see what they look like as they appear extremely small. Though I do drive around with my eclipse fog lights on all the time. Mainly because I work nights.
I looked at these but ended up getting crv. I know Mazda put in a nice interior but they just don’t last like Honda. I like the outside of the crv better too, as well as apple play and remote start.
I had a 2016.5 Mazda cx5 ... Road noise was loud center console was on the cheaper side ... Rear seats are very uncomfortable getting in and out ...rear breaks will only last 36k miles ... all breaks squeal very loud ... ..... Just traded for a Honda accord sedan ex l V6 2017 ...
Test drove it. Very disappointed. Very choppy driving manners, badly blown around - especially at highway speeds. Extremely rough starts in colder weather. Shame, because it lookes nice and has a lovely interior.
Dino I haven't experienced rough starts in cold weather... But I have noticed the vehicle being blown around a bit at high speeds on the highway. The front of the vehicle is not aerodynamic at all and probably contributes to that.
DeadofWinter321 I wouldn't say all of them. My wife got out of a 2015 Mazda 3, and we were looking for another Mazda as we liked the vehicle (3), just needed more space. We ended up with something else. Nonetheless, the 5 certainly looks pretty. ;)

Mazda is doing a good job at creating elegant..yet simple interiors. In person they are actually quite pleasing to look at.
If Mazda can build a car with such premium materials inside at that price, it proves Volvo, Audi, Merc, BMW, Jaguar are ripping us off! People seen driving those others aren't smiling, those are hunger pains! I'd rather have the Mazda and food on the table, thanks.
Heard!
Step 1: Don't be poor. Having owned both a Mazda3 and M4, I can tell you the quality is far from the same.
As the owner of a CX-5 and new CX-9 You may want to check out the vehicle control screen One neat feature I love is the walk away locking feature since it will automatically lock the doors when you turn off the car and walk away.
I have exactly the same car but 2017. got it in May, love it so much, The Red is truly the best red I've seen on a car.
I just got mines yesterday. I’m excited to drive it around
I think hands down Mazda has the best infotainment system when it comes to using it the idrive like style of it is perfect for driving and not distracting u
Got this car as a loaner from Mazda when my 3 was in for a recall. Amazing vehicle!
That door handle on the rear passenger door that made you pull your key out is why I like the Volvo XC60. You walk up and pull the handle and it just opens in one motion, on any door.
We got GT too. Best in the class. Looks great and its chassis is solid and rides much better than my other car , Lexus RX.
Can't wait to see the follow-up video!

Have a 16.5. very solid. 28 mpg for my commute. Mazda had its best sales mon to month in January 2018
Great energy man, keep it up!
Electronic parking brake heated seats and AWD shifter switches have claimed the space where cup holders used to be found. Now you need to do yoga every day and have no arthritis to reach out for your drinks. Notice no room for cell phone, keys, etc in the center console
Those wheels are weak for the "Top Model"
they look pretty sturdy to me
I can't tell if your'e trolling or not. But I mean't weak as in design.
like if someone ses that something is (lit) then that means very bright not that something is cool
They look like base model wheels. Awful. But other than that this looks pretty good.

Great video Dave as usual. Have to agree with you on those cupholder positions. That tall gas station flask of coffee in the morning gets a ton of elbow bumps!
Great video! I’m in the market for a new crossover to replace my 2007 Escape and I’m really leaning towards the Mazda over a new escape.
How's the transmission and the electronics? I hear the CX-5 has had it's fair share of problems.
Can you maybe demonstrate the rear seat and trunk room by throwing a carseat in the rear and luggage/stroller in the trunk? Thanks.
thanks for the video! 1 'stat' that I was interested in, maybe other viewers too, is the ground clearance on this AWD version. I'm comparing it to the Subaru Crosstrek.
The Crosstrek is an underpowered dog with a tiny engine and a CVT.
Nice video. Hey, does it have tire pressure monitoring?
I hate that press button to unlock. When it's -20c outside, that button is frozen too. So why not just touch to unlock?
I was going to add. I have a 2017 touring cx5. Smart city brake support is now standard. All exterior led lights also with drl. Makes me wonder why the interior lights are not led though. A little quirk in my opinion.
Beautiful colour...

This SUV is more about driving dynamics and style, over utility. Go buy a minivan if you want cargo space.
Dave when are you showcasing the new Mazda 6 2018?
Wife has been thinking about trading in her 2016 Escape for one of these CX5's. They look fantastic!
I test drove a new 2017 model and thought it was noisier and had a stiffer ride than my 2013 Ford Escape 1.6 Turbo so I passed on it.. just slightly quicker.

27Zangle I have the 2017 CX-5. It is a very quiet ride.
Bextar636 it's harder because it has better handling, it's noisier because weight reduction = better fuel economy and better performance.
Japanese cars always looking better and always reliable than American tractors
it will definitely worth looking into, could be my next choice.
The mirrors do fold in well the Australia version have folding mirrors
u should do a review showing space in trunk for what its like for dogs
This SUV needs to have a minimum of 200 horses. I hope Mazda boosts this for the upcoming generation. Remember the AWD version is considerably heavier than the Front wheel drive version and should have received a horsepower jump.
I'm really eyeing one of these. Not sure about driving on the lease roads in west Texas though. Some can be pretty rough.
love it, might lease it as a secondary car, but damn those rear release latches for the backseat are sucha useless gimmick if you still have to go anyway to either adjust the head rest or even the front seats to let the back seats go down lol.
Dave is really handsome. I’ll take his advice on a car any day. Lmao

Quick question Mazda doesn't use CVT Transmissions right ?
I'm not sure about ALL models, but none for the CX-5, correct :)
Mazda does not use CVT in any car. At this point, they don't believe in CVT technology...
You can make the back doors unlock with the driver door from the settings in the display
What do you think of the power/acceleration? I've got a Mazda 3 with the same engine and it's fine but I'm worried about all the extra weight of the CX-5.
where was this filmed, which city
Hi , here in Canada the 2018s are having lots of issues with vibration , cold start issues, noisy engines, let us know if you experience it ,from what's on the internet seems Mazda knows about it and is working on a fix, recall expected soon
wildoneback - Good to know, we just about to go get this baby. Still torn between color choice. Red or white....
I’m in Canada and own a 2018 cx5 GT w/tech. I haven’t experienced any of these issues.
2018 CX-5 GT in Florida and no issues lol!
Ted Davis lol
Impossible, these are made a 100 % in Japan with Japanese workforce and quality parts that means quality from disciplined hard working people.
The infotainment system still needs to be slightly larger and with better software. Other than that, I think this car is just about perfect.
I have the 2017 GT....nothing has changed, not even the wheels nor the lack of Apple Carplay and Android Auto.
Has no one reviewd the exhaust noise?.
I LOVE MAZDA 2018 !!!
Hi Dave, I'm in the market for a new vehicle that is good in the snow and was wondering if you recommend between the CX3 and CX5, or the HRV and the CRV, Thanks!
keep checking your channel daily for a 2018 Mazda 6 turbo review!!
They still having crappy Pizza Wheel on 2018? Meh WTF!
I got 15 Mazda 3 and I still waiting for Android Auto for almost 4 years now which they promised but instead they disabled wifi so we cant even utilize that. Do you feel the passing power on the highway is strong enough? How is it for going on a on-ramp?
BTFU1851 strong enough if you know how to drive. Ever notice how many people merge onto freeways going 45 miles an hour?
Clearly they don’t know they should be merging onto the freeway at the speeds the cars on the freeway are going. Unfortunately most people are idiots.
Do they come with grey leather sets colors
I just got a 2017 back in October and only have 1980 miles on it lol
You really are the man who knew too little 😂😂😂
I want the FWD model. Florida weather no snow
when are you going a video on the 2018 Honda crv ex l
Does Mazda offer factory installed front and rear parking sensors on the 2018 CX-5 at any trim level?
try not to move the camera sooo fast. gives some of us vertigo issues.
Love your channel, recently bought a mazda cx5. Thanks for the help! :)
No you were right. They should re-think the cup holder location. They missed that one.
Maybe could you take this car out and test it out on snow or rough terrain
This is the most affordable SUV in the market.
Nice car! Here in Denmark that specific model goes for 74.000 dollars + options.... 😒
OH GOD, WHY???
Because Denmark /danes culture prefer bicycle ..sorry😭😭😭
The best Mazda
Meh. The 3 is fantastic, as is the MX-5.
Review Mazda 6 please!!!
Your place is so nice where it is
So is the CRV 2018 now much better than CX5?
Joash Casuga are toilets from the 90’s much better than ones today? Doubt it.
Good power more road noise in 2018 crv
Nice video and a very nice car, thx for upload.
greetings from munich
Mazda needs to step their game up
In what regard? This SUV gets great reviews, as do the Mazda3 and the MX-5.
I loved the handling on my 2016 especially in the snow but that interior space is an issue. I guess that's their way of saying, get the cx9 then....ehh mine got traded in early because of it. Mazda work on more space and/or maybe make a pickup truck again!
Paolo A The 2017 CX-5 is much more roomier than the 2016. The design change helped out driver and passenger room.
Oh, oh you forgot the 2018 VW Tiguan?
In my opinion, you hit the worst feature of the CX5 and the reason I bought the RDX. The cup holders and arm rest configuration is the absolute worst in the class. In no way should the drinks be that far back and in the way of your arm on the resting place. Bad job MAZDA!!!
bdkane721 then again an RDX adds about 5 to 7 thousand in price? I learned to live with the bumping of a water bottle on occasion but I rarely keep soda or fast food type stuff in cars. If I eat or drink a fountain soda...its sitting down inside the location. But then again not everyone is like that.
Its not that uncomfortable really.. Also the new interior design of the RDX is the ugliest thing I have ever seen behind the Ford Escapes...
Really nice looking car in the outside, but once you're in, it is hard to move around, unlike the CRV, so roamy. Visibility in CX5 is non-existent as well. Oh, and lower on the ground compared to other compact SUVs.
They need to bring back the CX-7.
HALWG51 I think having a crossover in between the cx 5 and the cx 9 could screw up sales for the cx 9. I think Mazda should create a strong off road vehicle to compete with Jeep Wranglers and Toyota Forerunners. Just my opinion though.
Why did they make it ugly after 2016?
I think I’ll wait for the 2019 RD-X. 😍 😎😁😉😆
that car is going to be from 39-42 thousand. This car starts at 23?? Since we're playing this game, I think I'll just wait for the 2020 Tesla Roadster.
Old fred needs an improved center console and a more comfortable seating position. That's what the mrs. says too.
No remote start, rear vent and apple car play? That touch screen looks old. I was really considering this but nvm. I’ll get a CR-V. This car needs to really catch up. Looks is the only thing going with this car.
Nice house

John cena after hepatitis
Anyone ever say you look and sound like Shooter Mcgavin? LUL
the rims are hideous for GT! Those shouldve been for the lower trim then shouldve been sportier for the GT. Rims really uggg this suv a lot!
I looked at these but ended up getting crv. I know Mazda put in a nice interior but they just don’t last like Honda. I like the outside of the crv better too, as well as apple play and remote start.
I liked the previous front end & look better..This one looks too long.
80srockerable no one agrees
The new Rav 4 cruiser is much better for off road
I had a 2016.5 Mazda cx5 ... Road noise was loud center console was on the cheaper side ... Rear seats are very uncomfortable getting in and out ...rear breaks will only last 36k miles ... all breaks squeal very loud ... ..... Just traded for a Honda accord sedan ex l V6 2017 ...
Hennessy * have you not been looking at videos for the 2017 cx5 the noise has been addressed already. Go somewhere
It was the way you drove it, Hoss.
I must agree I have a 2014 CX5 touring no squeaks and rattles and still have my original brakes. Haven't even changed a bulb yet.
i just can't appreciate the cx-5. :(
Nice car but I prefer to buy lexus.

Mazda's are known for loud, choppy driving manners.
DeadofWinter321 I wouldn't say all of them. My wife got out of a 2015 Mazda 3, and we were looking for another Mazda as we liked the vehicle (3), just needed more space. We ended up with something else. Nonetheless, the 5 certainly looks pretty. ;)
You sure that wasn't the last model? That one had a firmer ride than the new one.
Christopher Brown Was the new 2018.
Another white leather seat demo car. The interior makes me wanna puke, man and those wheels give me a second regurge.
You seem to have a very sensitive stomach. You should see a Dr. about that.
Forehead sauce aim explore increased represent shooting express constantly prohibit before dozen.

Thank you. Where did you see me though? Do we know each other?
