Ok I am a long haul trucker with my first bike being a KLR 650 S and I use the Garmin OTR 1010. Now, when I go through Salt Lake East or West on 80, most of the time it says go 80. Some days it saves 4 miles by going through the 201 and back to 80. Now my phone relays traffic and weather to it, but that variable is chosen when I start, like from Sacramento or Omaha. It will not tell me unless I look, or get there. Can be annoying, but still works.
That might be why Google varies the route.
For the top box, I heard Pelican gun cases being water proof would work good. Just unbolt back plate, mark holes on box drill holes and bolt items back to bike. Harbor Freight though may be a more affordable option.
Have you tried trucking companies? We get lots of rock chips. As long as windshield does not need to be replaced, just repaired, you might get good volume of work. Or check the truck stops. Their shops don’t fix chipped windshields, but if you set up a relationship with the shop, the drivers can ask their carrier to have it fixed by you if you can get there while they are waiting in line, which can be a few hours or 34 hours of wait time for them to get in the shop. Enough time to ride out there and fix it. ESPECIALLY if you can take EFS or Comchecks for payment.
Anyway, hope your business picks up.
I have tried working the truck stops, but mostly company drivers that either don't care or can't make a decision, few owner op's but in most cases they tell me they will wait till it cracks and replace it, because they are too sand blasted to worry about, trucking companies I have a couple, but they are spotty, because they want me to drop everything and come when they call, instead of being on a schedule. I have one company that let's me come every other week, and they are great because they stick with that schedule. others just want me on call to come at the drop of a hat to do one truck, I tell them I need more than one truck if I am going to just drop everything and come running, but they figure they are in control. However I am still working on more local companies so that I can go to them on days when the trucks are parked because that is the best way to do it. Local sand and gravel haulers are the way to go here, trucks are mostly parked over the weekend and I can go there and do my work and not be rushed about things.
I liked my KLR gen 3. Sold it for smaller, lighter, and more dirt worthy dual sport. Hard to find a unicorn, but the KLR in some ways is almost it.
We will never find that unicorn...lol. This is it for some riders it checks all their boxes but not for everyone.
I like it. You gotta ride it like an old man if you don't want the shit rattled out of you, But there is something about banging it off in the danger zone every shift.
I actually don't mind the rattle at all till it gets up around 70 MPH then it feels like it's going to rattle apart...lol
Yeah the sustained 70ish mph is what will beat you up.
Sorry about the fact that you had to lose the Gold Wing. Hope things work out well for you. I am considering buying a new truck because mine is 12 years old and starting to have issues. But I really like my current truck so I'm kind of torn between buying and keeping.
Well you know what they say, it's cheaper to keep her. Find out what you would have to put down on a knew truck, then find out what it would cost to just fix all the issues with the old truck, if it's close to the same amount then fix the old one and you won't have payments or higher insurance.
Have you had the wobble looked at yet ?
haven't had time, but every time I go there they say there is nothing wrong with the bike...But I am going to figure it out for sure.
@@mymotorcyclelifestyle ok thank you
ok so you know i have a 2023 klr every one is telling me to change the front fender stock is like a big sail aka causing wobble at 70 mph
it's not the front fender, I have two videos coming out on the 21st and 25th explaining what I did to stop the wobble on my bike, now that's not to say this is going to work for everyone but I can now run 80 down the interstate with one hand on the bar hitting bumps and grooves and no wobble at all. I wish I could tell you here but then no one would watch the videos...lol
@@mymotorcyclelifestyle can't wait to watch them 😎
How would a rider weighing 450 be ok on it?
I would think a little bit tougher bike would be in order the KLR has about a 320 pound weight limit, that would be two lighter riders or a rider of about two hundred pounds and some gear..
My Gen 3 has a 421 pound limit as bike is already 456 pounds.
However, the KTM 1290 SAS that sporty all rounder has a total gross of 1,014 pounds, 500 for the bike leaves 614 lb for all else.
@@stevek4449 thanks for the info I will check that out
The 320 pound weight limit is above what the bike weighs. But yes I would check on something like the T7 or the Africa twin or the KTM 1290 something around those lines for sure.
@@foxvalley560400cool, that’s what the owners manual (she😂) said as to the 421 payload limit😂
