    Barry's little "wha?" when Ben defined anthromorphism was quite adorable. Also Mike's saltiness at losing and Ben's little passive agressiveness at no one trying the lemonade made it perfect to me.

      The anthropomorphism is what gave it away.

    I was absolutely convinced it was Winnie the Pooh! Ben said "Oh, bother!" about the air bubbles and then when he was saying "or" over and over again I thought that was referencing Eeyore and then he brought out the honey pot at the end! I don't know either of the stories incredibly well but a whimsical little picnic in the woods with anthropomorphic animals sounded very Winnie the Pooh to me. I love this series, can't wait for more!

    Loved the reaction to Ben's picnic backpack. "He's been trying to expense this bag for so long!" I love how cheeky they've become with that background fact in their production, like during the Gourmet Noodles video where Ben quietly admitted they filmed at the biang-biang noodle restaurant so that they could use it in the video and expense the lunch.

      I didn't get it so early. Maybe in part because I only discovered the book later in life. Or because I read it in translation. But "Ken and Graham", well... I kept being rather confused as it went on, but those two gentlemen had already locked it in. 😅

  • @clusterbungle
    @clusterbungle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Love this format! Can't say I actually knew it at this point but at 3:21 when Ben said "Graham and Ken" my ex-literature student brain did think "huh, sounds a bit like Kenneth Grahame". Unfortunately I discarded that idea very quickly because I was still convinced it was a real life event, so I bounced around between the Titanic, the Oxford/Cambridge boat race, and at one point the moon landing 😂 finally came full circle and realised it actually was Wind in the Willows after all when you brought out the picnic basket and ginger beer - you sure do know how to take us on a journey Ebbers!

  • @andrewweston7625

    An interesting format, but a small suggestion. It feels like there's a suggestion that there is almost a contest to guess first (lots of oooh I think I've got it's), but then of course they just guess at the end. Maybe once they think they have an answer they should have to write it down (secretly), then at the end you look through the guesses potentially quite fun to see what the guesses were and also makes the normals actually commit to their musings

    7:00 I figured it was a picnic from the cold meats at the start, but at anthropomorphic I guessed 'Wind in the Willows' but was a bit confused by how 'historical' it was XD

  • @harvestmoon_autumnsky

    As an Anglophile, I knew what it was almost instantly. Aren't I awesome? Not that anyone is reading this or cares, it must be because I subconsciously remembered the menu of food. Cold chicken. I've read the book so many many times. It's truly beautiful. (I almost always skip the Toad parts).

    I never experienced Wind in the Willows as a child so there was no way I could have gotten it but I was proud of myself for somehow intuiting that it was a children's book meal and guessed Winnie the Pooh or The tea party in Alice in Wonderland.

      I kept thinking Mad Hatter's Tea Party at first too but eventually it became clear it was some sort of picnic and the anthropormorphism steered me towards Wind in the Willows, even though it wasn't really part of my childhood reading.

    Maybe this is just a very Anglocentric book but as an American this went right over my head - have never even heard of the book much less read it. I was also thrown by the fact that a fictional meal would be making history. When I think history my mind goes to historical events that actually happened.

    • @kaldo_kaldo
      @kaldo_kaldo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm American also - I had heard of it once upon a time, but yeah I never read it, and I've never heard of the picnic or really any literary meal making history. I was also stuck on reality. There are a lot of iconic scenes, like say the tea party in Alice in Wonderland, but making history? That part is foreign to me.

      The thing is as Americans we actually do have some DISNEY stuff based on Wind in the Willows.
      It was animated and included in “The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad” in 1949. (The Mr. Toad part is the Wind in the Willows section) Unfortunately while some remember the Sleepy Hollow part not many remember the Mr. Toad part.
      And thus we got the Mr. Toads Wild Ride. It was at both American parks though the Magic Kingdom’s shut down in 1998 but the Disneyland one is still ongoing! It’s actually one of the original rides that was there for the opening of the park itself.
