Most folks think 3000 miles is still a typical oil change schedule. 40 years ago most engines were poorly engineered, underpowered, and had poor efficiency. Oil is far better today and engine tolerances are measured in microns instead of thousandths. Any regular car with a pushrod engine today can go more than 7500 miles between changes and the oil has darkened but is far from dirty or contaminated. I think some new cars have 15,000 change intervals. Apparently when he was doing worked. The most important factor is using the correct weight of oil.
@@_BAD_MERC_ There are a handful of videos now about this truck and its maintenance history. Brian described his mileage as split evenly between highway, suburb and city. He used Mobil 1 and changed it at home every 10K. Had he used Amsoil Signature Series he could have run much longer intervals. We no longer change spark plugs every 12,000 miles or change the antifreeze yearly . We don't swap thermostats in the spring and autumn but some people are still stuck in the 1970s when it comes to oil changes. There is a night and day difference between a PAO synthetic and traditional mineral oil. Mobil 1 is somewhere in between so 10K intervals with his driving habits sounds right.

@@bryane2857 In the video posted by Nissan USA he said about 25 or 26 mpg. Keep in mind that it's a small 2.5L 4-cylinder engine producing 152hp and 171 lb-ft of torque, hooked up to a 5-speed manual and with only 2WD. iirc Nissan won't be making the 4-cylinder engine or 5-speed manual transmission anymore but there should be plenty of used ones out there. My Xterra with 4WD and the 4.0L V6 automatic gets considerably worse gas mileage (about 17 mpg), but I do get a-lot more power, 261hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. (frontier, older pathfinder, and some HD Nissan cargo vans have this engine option too) So ultimately its: do you want a truck that gets great gas mileage, has cheaper maintenance, and improved reliability, but with considerably less towing capability, worse off-road/winter performance and other weaker capabilities? Or do you want a truck that has much more power, can tow a lot more (like 3790lbs vs 6720lbs, quite a big difference), is better for off-roading/winter conditions, and is more capable in basically every way, but not as reliable and with worse gas mileage? the 4.0L and 5-speed automatic are pretty reliable compared to other Nissan engines and transmission especially the CVTs. For 2020 Nissan won't be making the 4.0L or 5-speed automatic/6-speed manual anymore in the frontier though. (idk if it will still be available for the cargo vans tho)

No road noise, no wind noise, no engine noise coupled with a very smooth ride. Drove to the golf course and back and when we got home to unload our clubs a large 32oz coke was still sitting on the bumper I had left there some 15 miles ago. And since then there had been 2 more incidents just like that. That Nissan KingCab was very reliable. For the 1st 12 years or so besides having to change oil pretty much nothing went wrong which made ownership delightful. We piled on about 400k miles in about 17 years and used it extensively hauling furniture, dirt, gravel and kids. By the time I let it go that Nissan did not look anything like Brians Frontier.

there nothing wrong with the Nissan CVT transmission The problem not the CTV transmission The problem is the carbon build up in the nissan CTV fluid As you know A CTV transmission has a push steel belt driven by two moving cones As long as the push steel belt and the cones never touch They should last way pass the life of the car. They will in fact last for ever. The Nissan CTV transmission problem is in the incredible amount of heat the CTV transmission generates. in the CTV fluid The belt and cones under load burns the CTV fluid all a CTV transmission Don't have is a CTV fluid over heating problem. it just the belts and cones undedr load are like a hot plate There are cars on You tube that have done over 180,000 miles and there still going good. So If you change the CTV transmission fluid, say ever 60,000 km the CVT transmission should out last the lift of the car. that has been place in The reason we know this is Before being put in to production Nissan ran cars with CTV transmissions in them in city traffic up steep hills down steep hills for five years with no trouble what so ever. But the thing is ever now and then the transmissions were regularly being taken apart and checked. In doing this the cars CTV transmission fluid were continually being replace. So Nissan never saw the carbon build up in there CTV fluid The just assumed that is like in an ATF transmission That the CTV fluid would never wear out . But we know know that this is not true. The role of the CTV transmission fluid is to prevent the push steel belt and the cones from ever touching But once the CTV transmission fluid gets to old and build up enough carbon it loses it viscosity. Then it can no longer protect the the push steel belt and the cones as the carbon build up They will start to come in to close contact with one another And as they start to rub together the first sign they fall is the CTV transmission will start to make a whining sound. left to long the push steel belt will start to cut in t the cones and eventfully the push steel belt will finely fail and fall apart But people have said when there transmission start to make a whining sound they took it to an Auto repairer Who tried just replacing the CTV fluid it seem to fix it all most instantly.
jcr65566 Bro you have to be a sort of mechanic, Automotive engineer or some kind of car guy to know this about the transmission. One thing I can’t stand about ANY CVT transmission is the horrendous droning sound it produces but they do tend to shift much quicker than regular automatic transmission, resulting to “better” mpg. But the fact that these companies are now combining Turbocharged or any charged engine with a CVT (Honda) is scary and, in my opinion, horrible choice of combination. But nonetheless, I do love my Altima, it’s very fast for a 2.5 N/A engine that make 183hp. I get 0-60 in 7.1 seconds, if launched properly, 6.9 seconds. I’ve outran so many cars on the road and from red light races.
@@GodsloveMuzik Yeah I found this with my 2019 Nissan Qashqai. Others have found It very hard to try and beat it off the mark But I know While driving in my car And while Im engaging the CVT. In to operation. My CVT will push that steel belt around against the cones at around 250 foot lb And I know that will generate a lot of heat though friction. The thing is the CVT fluid. will not over heat Because Once the car up to speed The CVT fluid will return to it normal temperature

Tacoma was nice but they ride like a damn tank and I didn't like how their transmissions don't meet up with the power of the motor properly. I didn't like the Colorado because that 8-speed transmission with a V6 didn't pull worth a damn. Yeah if it's all highway then you can put well over 10k on some engines as long as you top it off every few hundred miles
@@billyray4716 In another video he said he used synthetic oil the whole time.

(frontier, older pathfinder, and some HD Nissan cargo vans have this engine option too)
So ultimately its: do you want a truck that gets great gas mileage, has cheaper maintenance, and improved reliability, but with considerably less towing capability, worse off-road/winter performance and other weaker capabilities?
Or do you want a truck that has much more power, can tow a lot more (like 3790lbs vs 6720lbs, quite a big difference), is better for off-roading/winter conditions, and is more capable in basically every way, but not as reliable and with worse gas mileage?
the 4.0L and 5-speed automatic are pretty reliable compared to other Nissan engines and transmission especially the CVTs. For 2020 Nissan won't be making the 4.0L or 5-speed automatic/6-speed manual anymore in the frontier though. (idk if it will still be available for the cargo vans tho)

Here’s why. No CVT Transmission but manual instead. Nissans do have great engines but their cvt transmissions are their downfall
there nothing wrong with the Nissan CVT transmission The problem not the CTV transmission The problem is the carbon build up in the nissan CTV fluid As you know A CTV transmission has a push steel belt driven by two moving cones As long as the push steel belt and the cones never touch They should last way pass the life of the car.
The thing is the CVT fluid. will not over heat Because Once the car up to speed The CVT fluid will return to it normal temperature
jcr65566 But it’s high time they ditched the Enthusiast most hated transmission choice (CVT). We can even overlook a DCT option instead but that thing gotta go. It served its purpose
