I wondered if not completely forgiving someone was the same this as not wanting anything to do with someone who you don't care for or want in your life. Like, you accept that the person hurt you or that a disagreement made you step away from someone, but refuse to have the energy to get revenge or lash out. I'm glad I heard from someone that it's ok to forgive (basically not be as angry or hurt), but not want to connect if I don't want to.

It’s the perceived intent for me. When I believe it was unintentional, forgiveness is easy. When it’s intentional, it’s more difficult.

If I learn that my past understanding turns out to be a misunderstanding, in other words if I mess up, I must give myself grace. 🧠💕

Right. It's the very reason some people get stuck with forgiveness bcuz they think forgiveness means that person has to return into their life space.

Hi Brown Family, I appreciate your episode on Forgetting and Forgiveness. My perception of transitioning from childhood into adulthood. As a child, I wasn't responsible for who came and went in my childhood. But in my adulthood, I am solely responsible for who I invite and share my life with. As an adult, I chose to surround myself with good energy. It fuels my spirit. I'm grateful for being a well-rounded adult.

For me as far as this subject of forgiveness, I have been working on that. I don't hold grudges but my feelings stay hurt longer then I wish they did. I forgive but I do it from a distance and depending on how bad I feel the situation was, I can't continue to engage or deal with the person anymore. It's like Tab said, if you do certain things it's like, "damn did this person ever give AF about me?" When I feel like the answer is no, I can't pretend to fake with the person like it's cool to still deal with them. I forgive but there are some things I don't want in my life and I don't deserve to let anyone make me feel bad or like I don't matter as much to them as they mattered to me. On the outside looking in it looks like my "Cut off game is strong". My cut off game is really sad cause in essence, I never wanted to see it coming but it be necessary for my own sanity and dignity.

Whewwww! I needed to hear this especially when it comes to forgiving family, so many nuggets in this conversation that I'm going to go back and listen again. Family hurts hurt more because these are the people that are supposed to love you the most so when they do, say things that are hurtful its confusing at first because you are shocked then you have to work through those feelings. You can forgive *WITH* boundaries, ironically I'm currently reading about healthy ways to do this. The book is titled 'Good Boundaries and Goodbyes' by Lysa Terkeurst if anyone is interested. Thank you Tab and Chance for sharing!
First of all, the first five minutes was pure comedy. I went from giggling to crying laughing to wheezing and loved every minute of it! Y’all do each other so well! No cap, I thought Tee Tab was about to fumble the beat and Uncle Chance was going to turn into Duck 😂

It definitely does hurt differently when a family member does it. Forgiveness also hits differently based on the amount of trust broken...FORGIVENESS is always for yourself to release whatever it is that, that person did to you.....Forgiveness doesn't mean that you let that person back in to your life because you can forgive with boundaries!

It took me a long time to figure out that forgiveness doesn't always mean reconciliation. I'm in place now where I'm trying out how to figure properly in a certain situation that I've been faced with before. This was right on time. Thanks love y'all 💕💕💕
The level of forgiveness that the Bible requires is always a notch up from our idea of it. And for us to attain that level, we have to be connected to Christ; we can't do it on our own, because the things that human beings do one another😮😮😮 needs the God of love to intervene. ❤❤❤

One of the hardest things for me to forgive was when I was struggling financially & about to go into a shelter, but my birth mother who claimed she had gotten saved & had married this preacher who asked me to come stay with them in their big house acted like they wanted to help. So, I gathered up the children & went. I feel like they tricked me, b/c although I followed their House Rules, I cleaned, I cooked, I brought food in, I gave them the money I had for utilities, but just a month and a 1/2 later they told me they just didn't want me in their space for no valid reason, put me out, & tried to take my children for state benefits and tax return money. They were mad I went to another church (b/c I couldn't learn anything in their dead church & their hypocrisy was glaring) smh.
I was stranded w/ nowhere to go b/c they have a waiting list for women shelters, so I wandered & slept at various places. The stress made me sick vomiting & running fevers, so I stayed in the hospital sometimes, but they couldn't figure out what was causing it. For the 1st time I started considering that maybe God wasn't really real & that's why wicked people seemed so much more blessed. A social worker & a friend helped me get my kids & get into long-term transitional housing.
Mind you, this is the same mother that abandoned her own children & we were passed around to different relatives, yet she wanted to take mine at my lowest point in life. It was hard enough forgiving her for failing me in my childhood & trying to let her make amends, which she never really did, but just wanted to skip over that to get to know her, but then to add insult to injury to do that to me and try to take my kids instead of helping us when she didn't even raise her own was so unfair...
I thought how can people call themselves women & men of God doing things like that. I didn't talk to them for years after that. When they reached out to me you could tell they felt guilty, but they still weren't apologizing & instead they were just trying to offer me things to make amends.
I've never trusted them since then. I hope they truly repent and that they are corrected for what they did to me so that they don't do that to someone else and that they can be better people as a result.

I like what Tab said, Forgiveness does not mean rekindle. 👍👍👍You can absolutely forgive and love a person and move on after forgiveness. People need to understand that and stop saying someone is walking in unforgiveness because the person that has forgiven someone and moved pass the relationship. Some relationships have an expiration date or season.
