    8 years later, and this video is still helpful. I wasn't sure if a splice job would be adequate as the shielding wire is obviously no longer all the way around the inner wire when you do it this way, so having someone verify that it works is great. I'm trying to put a reverse camera in my sister's car, but to do so either requires drilling holes in the trunk, removing the bumper, or running the cable under the car to the battery vent hole, because the RCA connectors are just too big to fish through the bumper. Cutting the cable on a $30 camera, and then splicing it again, seems much preferable to any of those options!

    • @edt1138
      @edt1138  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It obviously isn't anybody's first choice, but for most things this should work fine.

    Yep I agree if they are going to repair A/V cables you will want wire cutters and heat shrink tubing.
    And maybe even soldering iron and solder.
    For me personally I'd more likely solder the two ends together then do the heat shrink around both wires.

    If I was using a Aux cable, do I connect the harder wire to the other 2 harder wires like you did with this one? The AV cable has a red and white inside, which I know is for L and R channel. Just wondering if Aux cables have 2 different bare wires in them for each channel or what.

    Would it be possible to repair or clean the AV Cable that was connected to a Plug-In TV Game? I had the SpongeBob Plug-In TV that was packed in the box and when I just took it out and plug it in to my new TV that has AV inputs, the graphics on the screen looked weird with the different random colors popped up, but the game isn't making any glitches and the sound looked fine as it is.

    First, thanks a bunch for doing this video. I'm in need of running a video cable from my newly installed side view mirror car camera to the inside of the car. Now, I can just cut the video cable and make a significant smaller hole on my car in order to get the wire from behind the door panel to the inside of the car and hence the center console where it shows the image. Thanks a lot!!!!!!!
    Now, would you know if I could use the a red or a white rca cable for video as well like the regular yellow one. Are they interchangeable??
    And whats the diameter of heat shrink tubes that I should buy to make it look a neat job?
    Thanks again for your time.

    So if you do this, could you hypatheticaly could connect the wires so that you don't need the colored male/female connectors, right?

    Does the same things apply for both audio and then video cord? Gifted my son the old Nintendo 64 we have and the cords got yanked or something, only the prong inside is messed up. They wiggle around and are fickle to hold a proper connection to the television. It'd fix only that part but replacing the entire end with a spliced wire connection to new ends seems far easier than trying dig into the end of the wire to fix a loose prong. Thank you for the video and if you get a chance to see my comment. 😸😸

      Yes, in most cases it will work exactly the same.

    Can i take headphones, cut off the end and make a 3.5 mm jack to av to listen to mp3 music or something on my speaker system?

    that's great, thank you, it was exactly what I was looking for! the only question that I have is that my rca cable that broke, and that is coming from a speaker, is one and yellow. To replace the edge of the cable, I only have some red/white left/right rca cables. I hope it will work...!

    Hey Ed, got a question! I know you mentioned the dangers or lack their of about a quick fix to a cut cable. However, I have a more modern record player made in the past two years. I was rushing one night and accidentally snipped the red rca cable. So I followed these steps and wrapped it well. It now works like new! My question was is this safe current wise? Should I be worried about any electrical mishaps?

    • @edt1138
      @edt1138  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should be fine as long as the cable isn't moved around too much. Like I said in the video, the worse case scenario is that you'll have bad sound or no sound at all from that channel.
      Thanks for watching.
