Omg this is how I write songs too! I create a melody first, usually attached to lyrics but sometimes it's just a little tune, then the rest follows. It's nice to find someone else who doesn't follow the 'traditional' songwriting process most people teach.

I’m so glad I’m not the only songwriter who can’t seperate lyrics and melody. When I tell you I was baffled the first time someone came to me asking for help with a melody, based on lyrics they already had, I was flabbergasted. I didn’t even know you could do that lol. Lyrics and melody come to me hand in hand at the same time. Or sometimes they come to me separately, but I never get around to actually using those ones lol. In my mind, if a song is already focused enough of an idea to already have lyrics and melody paired subconsciously, it is much easier to complete and much more effective as a song. But that’s just me, cuz I be struggling with only lyrics or only melody
I’m not a songwriter, but you talking about inspiration and saying that creativity is letting yourself explore and not following a specific set of rules honestly is so helpful to me. I write music the exact same way, I cannot write a single lyric without hearing the tune for it. That tune will sometimes change throughout the songwriting process, but it's never not there in some way. Which makes sense because my brain is constantly playing music, there's never not a song on my mind radio whether I'm consciously listening to it or not.
Hey Jay. At your time of choosing(preferably after each saga), make a dedicated vid on each song in those sagas explaining your fav parts, call backs to other songs(ie the underworlds start having both the done for and full speed ahead together, ingenious btw) and anything that you found fun or interesting while making the songs. I know you do this already in the forms of short vids and tiktoks, but it would be nice to have you explain the subtle things you've hid in the songs to(ie the lyre playing in luck runs out, pure gold). Thank you for your time if you read all this 😹😹
I have actually tried to write a musical (I got burnout about a month into its process, do not go looking for a musical written by me), and I knew exactly what I wanted to happen in the songs, so I created an outline for myself when I got inspiration for a song. I even wrote lyrics for quite a few of them (including a song about, I kid you not, TACOS). I, like the wonderful Jorgenbong Borgenbong, came up with the opening song ON THE TOILET, though I was thinking about when I had braces, and not watching Uncle Iroh. It was called "Brace Yourself". So I wrote the first song, and it was kinda short. Then I reached out to a friend, and they actually wrote the starting lyrics to one of the most depressing songs I was able to write. That one was called "Shattered Glass". Unfortunately, I don't have a musical bone in my body other than being in chorus, so writing the actual orchestral part for the songs was impossible. Maybe one day I'll go back to it with a different set of skills, and who knows, maybe I'll write the next EPIC! (Also, sorry for the long comment)
I was wondering...based off of the gaps between the Ocean, Circe, and Underworld sagas, could we expect the Thunder Saga around the end of July/beginning of August? It's a similar timeframe, and honestly, 'Thunder' saga kinda gives me the summer vibe for some reason. Weak evidence, I know, but am I close?

I have memorized every lyric, every musical motif, and every small little detail of this musical, which is something I don’t or can’t usually do. You and everyone in EPIC have made this memorable. If you asked me to sing a song from EPIC I would be able to sing it word for word, and add the music in between lines cause I love the song so much. This musical is the only one that connected with me this much, and made me feel like I was inside of the musical when listening to it. For example: In the Cyclops saga, I truly felt like I was in Polyphemus’s cave, while just sitting in my bedroom. This is something truly magical, Jay. Hope you have a wonderful day. ❤️
