Trying to blackmail powerful people doesn't typically end well. Really tragic that this lady got caught up in this shady world, she was clearly brilliant and had a lot going for her, so much potential snuffed out pointlessly.

@@elainevankat5353My point exactly, Adrian is trying extremly hard to make her seem like an ok person but having two children with men she barely knew, then abandoning them to persue a modeling career or some shit, selling herself to powerful government officials (according to that private investigator) and lastly blackmailing someone who's part of a corrupt government and currently conducting a highly controversial arms deal? It just makes her seem like a shit person tbh. Im not saying she deserved to die but what did she expect would happen?
I was a young girl when this horrible murder happened and Altantuya's case has always saddened me. Initially she was blamed for everything and mongolian people mostly talked about her as if she was a s-worker. Her father really fought to the end and I hope her family and friends find peace after the murderer got what he deserved.
Adrian, this is extremely frustrating but so scarily real. All governments worldwide are highly capable of dealings in which people can be killed and others framed or used as scapegoats!
It happens all the time , they pay someone to take the blame- they do the time and their family wants for nothing- that’s a big something if you’ve something big hanging over your head or a terminal illness and no life cover - yes there are people who will take the rap for so many things if the price is right!
Hey, awesome video as usual! But wanted to give you a heads up and point something out. The woman in the thumbnail (and some of the images throughout the video) is actually an image of a South Korean singer named U;Nee who died by s**cide in the 2000s. A quick google search of both Altantuyaa and U;Nee show that U;Nee's likeness has often been used erroneously. Thanks for listening :)
uhhhhhhhhh yikes. is it just me, or is adrian making more errors lately? first it was the last video's inaccurate representation of pakistan, now some of the photos presented here aren't even the real victim........there needs to be better quality control implemented.
@@asmokeus I can understand your perspective on the Pakistan concern, but admittedly I don’t know nearly as much about the depiction as I probably should. Given how prevalently the wrong image is used when discussing this case, I can see how the mistake was made. @@wormfarmer420 I’m not victim blaming, the blame lays squarely at the feet of those responsible. But a bit of common sense or self-preservation wouldn’t have been a bad thing when getting involved with these kind of people.
@wormfarmer420 Listen, it is utterly foolish and naive to fail to understand that predators exist. A sad and terrifying fact of life I'm afraid. So whilst the blame should rightly be apportioned to the murdering bastards who planned, plotted and enacted this heinous crime, one must also take steps to equip themselves with the knowledge that there are those willing to commit evil deeds against them, and take steps to protect oneself. In this case, it is the height of folly to blackmail such powerfully corrupt beings who wouldn't think twice about blowing you up with C4. I mean, no right-minded person could see that ending well, no?! An absolutely diabolical crime that left a promising young woman dead, and her children, family and friends missing a loved one. Hi Adrian, thank you for shedding light on this issue, and for being so respectful. I appreciate how tactful you were and for taking a stand to say Abdul Razak Baginda was behind this (Abdul Razak is his "first name", not just Abdul). Thank you for acknowledging the other criminals in this murder. Til today, some quarters still refuse to accept or acknowledge that. However, just a small issue -- at 1:50, you showed a picture of Gardens by the Bay, which is in Singapore, not Malaysia. Singapore is not part of Malaysia. At least not since August 9, 1965.
They are poor kids, not bc their birth mom was murdered, but bc she gave them up? They may have had a relatively good experience with her grandparents, before her death, we really do not know. This video said she had them young, and gave them to her parents. We do not know what she had going on, what her reasons were. It is traumatic to have change in guardians, but it is better to give kids to relatives if you are not able or willing to put in the time and effort to be a good parent.
@hallievanoutryve3109 Yes, her poor kids because their mother gave them away and then poor kids because their mother's greedy self got her murdered. She tried to blackmail people she had no power on. She used everyone she could use and benefit from. I feel sorry for her kids and family, not so much for her.
It is very common for Asian women to give their kids away to family relatives for married old men and get citizenship around the world. Most of them having kids with multiple men and being prostitutes by choice. Same exactly with this "woman" here. She was a prostitute who cared only about money and fame, hiding behind the "translator" profession (again very common for them to learn as many languages as they can to find poor victims across the globe). Just go one travel in Philippines and check the streets. Thousands of abandoned kids with foreign characteristics. And the mothers??? Fucking around with old men living the life. I am not impressed as from a young age their families are teaching them that they "must do everything they can to get money" families knowing about their daughters were about but as long as they are sending money back it's all good.
She was front and center in immense criminal activity like arms trading, just like any other member of the cartel, mafia, or other criminal organizations. If no one weeps for those other perps, how is this any different?
She was sn interpreter who got caught up in the middle. She was not an expert in politics or arms etc. she was practically dead the moment the deal went through.
@@Jojo-pv3ufthat's not true, look at the facts of the case. Plus, most of the casualties in transnational crime organizations are lower people who don't know what they are doing. It was a choice.

Hi Adrian! Would love to see you do more cases from Finland. We have many interesting cases like Kyllikki Saari, Raisa Räisänen, Lake Bodom murders, Virpi Butt, Hilkka Saarinen and many more. I know it can be hard to translate these since finnish is hard sometimes even for me, a native speaker 😂 But I would really like to see your take on some of these some day!
I drive past the place she was murdered almost on the daily, and we often talk about Altantuyaa but don't really know much about her as a person and not just a victim to political corruption. Thank you for covering this. It's absolutely sickening that there are still people with power and money that are roaming free despite having blood on their hands. We can only hope that justice is served not only for Altantuyaa, but for all the other silent victims.
I followed this case from my first ever job and now here i am almost 20yrs later watching a video abt it. There are a few things to point out tho. Not all the pictures of Altatunya is of her. Also, the information of one political party being in charge for 65yrs is incorrect (Msia gained independence in 1957), but at the time of her murder, that party had yet to be overtaken in the government (it has been since). Ironically, former Prime Minister Najib Razak sits in prison today for other charges. There's also an interesting story to the missing counsel, which in itself could be a video on coffeehouse crime, but i understand that not all info cud be covered in a short video
I love that you make a story about this case despite the wrong pictures of Altantuya as mentioned by other commenters here. I'd like to add is Altantuya really wanted the money because (as I remember) one of her sons back home is mentally disabled. Also after the aquittal, Altantuya's parents sued the Malaysian govt, Razak Baginda, Azilah and Sirul for the distress caused by this murder to their family. This brings the case back to light as every evidence is dug up again for the lawsuit. By the way as a Malaysian, we 100% had a gut feeling who's involved at the top. Someone that if you say their name out loud the cops are gonna knock on your door at 2am.
She abandoned 2 of her children to travel and have rich men spend money on her? After giving up a child twice, passing on 2 of her children, “she found herself not knowing what to do with her life”? How about raise the kids you bought into the world? I suppose we’re not supposed to mention that now she’s dead. It’s very sad that she was killed, but she played with fire and she got burnt. It’s also really sad that there are 2 children out there growing up knowing their mum left them because she loved herself more than she did them. I pray they grow up feeling loved.
Parents leaving their children with relatives to go off and work abroad or in the big cities is a pretty common thing in a lot of the non-first world countries. The kids have a better chance for a future if their mother/father is able to earn more money far away from them than they would have if the parent stayed at home and getting paid pennies for their work. A family friend has a polish live-in nurse who sends almost all of her paycheck back home to provide for her children and ageing parents. Working as a nurse myself, I encountered a lot of nurses, especially in retirement homes or as live-in carers, from poorer countries trying to give their children a better life by working far away from them. So, leaving your children with relatives doesn't mean abandoning them. Most of those people I encountered missed their kids terribly but couldn't find jobs at home. Or, IF they found jobs, those jobs didn't pay well enough to be able to provide for the family.
This video about such an unusual situation surprised my bff and myself. I can't imagine how her family and friends felt upon finding out what she had gone through. My deepest condolences to everyone affected by their loss.
i wouldn't consider attempting to blackmail someone like this as an intelligent move. she didn't deserve to die, but she put herself in that situation.

The one aspect no one really mentions is that she was a terrible mother. 2 kids sent to her parents while she was off on her illicit adventures.
As an Australian I'm so ashamed of our soft government. A non citizen nor resident escaping justice from being linked to a violent murder is walking our streets.

Trying to blackmail powerful people doesn't typically end well. Really tragic that this lady got caught up in this shady world, she was clearly brilliant and had a lot going for her, so much potential snuffed out pointlessly.
Getting married twice… having 2 children and DUMPS HER KIDS OFF WITH HER PARENTS… (doesn’t sound too brilliant!) 🤷♀️
@@elainevankat5353 You forgot the part where she knew she was being followed and even went to the police to report on Abduls illicit activity but then decided to just waltz into the very same guys house that she knew was having her watched and that she had just snitched on.
Such a sad case.
She was indeed a special s-worker, right? Obviously.

She send all her Kids to her Parents and then go do sexy time, which good mother would do that!????
@@JamieReynolds89 Tragic is the better word. Can't believe her own people (except her family) treat her death as if she caused this to happen 😞
I hate politicians... They have no soul, they had sold it to devil
Weird. I thought she looked different in some of the images.
uhhhhhhhhh yikes. is it just me, or is adrian making more errors lately? first it was the last video's inaccurate representation of pakistan, now some of the photos presented here aren't even the real victim........there needs to be better quality control implemented.
@@asmokeus I can understand your perspective on the Pakistan concern, but admittedly I don’t know nearly as much about the depiction as I probably should. Given how prevalently the wrong image is used when discussing this case, I can see how the mistake was made. Just doing a quick google search with basic search terms, the only combination that alerts you to the mistaken identity is if you use both Antantuyaa and U;Nee’s names in the same search (or unless you happen to know U;Nee)
Thank you for this comment! I just made the same comment and was looking for others that realized this. I hope he sees it and corrects it.
I understand the confusion because even our press (during that time) also confused the picture. Adrian probably just picked it off the news sites.
What a tragic case! When you cross the paths of high ranking corrupt officials, you do not win...what happened to Jamal Khashoggi?? that is also an unsolved case! RIP Altantuyaa, condolences to your family and friends!

What happened was absolutely despicable and a tragedy. But she thought she could try to blackmail a dodgy arms dealer…what could possibly go wrong?!
It`s funny how highly intelligent people seem to lack common sense.
Let’s not place blame on the victim here.

This is not the West. In the rest of the world, there is thing called family that doesnt disappear the moment you turn 18 or 70
@gijane2cantwaittoseeyou203 the father's of the children doesn't exist? Or were they off doing their own thing too? Family doesn't go away, however, she chose to marry these men and they chose to have children. The least that they can do is for one of the 3 parents is to raise their own kids.

Her poor kids. She kept handing them to her parents when they didn't fit her life anymore.
@@ermelindarrenja8162my thoughts exactly! Although she didnt deserve to be blown to bits she didn’t seem all that morally great either…
I spent 5 years in Malaysia, and learnt first hand how their corruption works. Can be very scary.
She was front and center in immense criminal activity like arms trading, just like any other member of the cartel, mafia, or other criminal organizations. If no one weeps for those other perps, how is this any different?

I followed this case from my first ever job and now here i am almost 20yrs later watching a video abt it. There are a few things to point out tho. Not all the pictures of Altatunya is of her. Also, the information of one political party being in charge for 65yrs is incorrect (Msia gained independence in 1957), but at the time of her murder, that party had yet to be overtaken in the government (it has been since). Ironically, former Prime Minister Najib Razak sits in prison today for other charges.
Ex Yankee Candle store manager here and you got me with that sales pitch, I was like, “yes, oud, you’re hired,” then the transition, flawless.
@coffeehousecrime I truly appreciate your hard work that you do in creating this coffee loving content. Keep it up, hello Nero love you too.
