This song reminds of my father who passed away back in 2018 from esophageal cancer. He loved that song. It brings tears to my eyes every time. I miss you daddy.
This guy has lived what he writes and sings about. That's what makes his words powerful. it took him 20 years of work before he made any living from his craft. Greatness and sensitivity come out of suffering.
This song always reminds me of how much I love my Dad. I'd like to think that even if my Dad was a drunk or I didn't even know him I'd still be the man I am now, I'd still have overcome everything the world threw at me. But the truth is, I couldn't have done this without my Dad. He was always the wind in my sails and the wise voice in my ear. I know not many young men are blessed enough to say this, but my Dad is my hero and I wouldn't be who I am without him. Not even close. This song is incredible.
Every song this man does is beautiful, and his messages are haunting to my soul. I was not blessed with a loving father, but I have a Heavenly Father. He blesses my soul and makes me want to be a better father to my son! ❤ Love your children while you still can. One day, we will only be memories. What kind of memories will you leave?
@@duranbailiff5337 Looking forward to having many children and loving them in the same way my father loved me, and shepherding then the same was I was.
Your dad's problem stands to me came from being on this earth, it had nothing to do with how he felt about you. You answered your own thought some how some way you made it through that and your father did too. Remember the way you see yourself came from your father's fight. And God freed him from that burden when he passed through the gates of Heaven. No two better arms to be in than God's. When you find yourself feeling down remember you where his child before the booze got a hold of him.
I like how John talks about his relationship with a mentor or his dad in the beginning of the song and can't quite fathom the meaning of life as passed down by that older person but it all makes sense years later when he himself becomes a parent with his kid asking all about the meaning of life when it is in fact just: "You and I". Sometimes things your parents or mentors say make a lot more sense when you're the one in the driver's seat.
I played this song as part of my 40 year old sons memorial. I felt this song was so appropriate. He loved music and the lake which was where I spread his ashes. The lyrics are spot on with a great melody. Rest in peace D.
I don't know how he created this but I don't have words for how this makes me feel. John should be recognized for making the world a better place with his music.
By far one of the most underrated videos by five for fighting. John Ondrasik's voice is absolutely stunning. He's an insanely talented guy, to say the least
I was so moved by this song that I used it to eulogize my father at his passing last year. Not a dry eye in the place but it said it all about the bond between father and son. I'm still moved by the lyrics a year later and chances are will always be. Such is the power of a good song.

I really like youtube for a lot of reasons. One of them is because I can simply plug in my favorites and let'er rip. For the longest time I forgot all about this one-man-band called Five for Fighting that my sister, Jenna, and I loved. She was my only sibling and I lost her last year to a disease called ALS ("Lou Gehrig's Disease"). Anyway, one day when we were in our late teens/early twenties, long before kids, careers, or deadly diseases, we were driving somewhere together in her old beater and it came on and we started singing. When we realized that we both knew every word, we kinda looked at each other and grinned. Jenn reached over and ranked up the radio and we sang our hearts out. No idea where we were going or why, but I had forgotten it completely until I accidentally stumbled across it on youtube. Even then, I only had a vague recollection of it meaning something to me at some point in my life. So I mashed the "go" button. By the time the song was over, I was sobbing my heart out and laughing my head off because I can so clearly remember her singing her heart out with me that day and I just hope and pray that she's up there, singing her heart out with me still. Thank God none of us can hear her (mood-lightening statement).

I am so grateful to know there are other people who also appreciate the greatness in this man's songwriting and singing. He should be under contract with a major label and release a new cd every year for the next 100 years. There are so few pop artists these days who truly deserve to be there. I remember playing his first 2 cassette tapes in my car constantly in the early 2000's and every time was like a religious experience.
This song will always have a special place with me. My dad died in 95, heart attack. I remember him everytime i hear it, i think he would have loved it too.

I love this song now. It was the perfect ending to the episode of criminal minds. I cried and played it over and over again until I got some lyrics then I found this and now Jen I listen to it I cry...
I've always liked this song ever since I had to hear it on the radio every day back in 2006..but it didn't become real for me until I randomly started singing it to my newborn son. Now I can't think about it without getting the feels.
This song rocks even though I miss hearing it on the radio. Such fond memories! My mom suggested that we were going to play this song from 16 years ago for my grandfather's funeral, but we didn't have much time to get the equipment ready for a slideshow presentation as a way to do a tribute to a family member who died from prostate cancer complications. In fact, I added it to my "Father's Day melodies" and my "Upbeat Travel songs 3" playlists that I made on Spotify. It has also been added to my "Travel songs with bouncy qualities" playlist that I also made on iTunes. My mom loves this song so much. Thank you for thinking of her. 👍🏻 if you're listening to my cousin's 12th birthday song idea during quarantine.
I was 6 living in my home state of Florida when this came out. This song always came on, on the radio. I remember we went to the beach around the afternoon to watch the sunset one day, me and my family were just staring when the song came on, on the radio we brought. We all just sang along, and I remember otheres coming to join. Think like a bonfire with a lot of people, expect there's no fire. Just peeps coming together and singing. *Sigh* good times. Ill always remember that day, and this song.😊💓✌
Talent like his is always recognized by smart people with musicality like you and your friends on the beach. Too bad today's music executives seem only to be interested in $$ and getting laid by the acts they sign.
Five for Fighting was always such a good songwriter. I hate how much music has been changed in the past 10 years. If rap wasn't a thing, he'd be a top 10 artist of the 21st century and I'm sure of it.
seems like yesterday i was 16, curious and excited about my future. now im 38 wishing i could relive my past and worried about whats gonna happen next. time flys and life goes by way to fast. one day your 16 without a care in the world, the next your pushing 40 with a family to take care of, bills to pay, and living in a world full of hate
But it's good to know there are other people who have the sensitivity and good taste to appreciate his music. Such melancholy in his songs as well as your post. Deep thinkers/feelers are being starved to death in today's pop music world. I hope you appreciate your family and life as it is today. 20 years from now you will remember it differently (better) than you do today. God Bless.
I'll never forget the first time I heard this song. Came home from school and turned on vh1...back when they actually played music...was doing homework and this came on. Instantly hooked, went straight to limewire and downloaded. Such simpler times
I found my way back to Five for Fighting a few days ago when he was on Mark and Kelly. Didn't take long during his performance to have tears in my eyes as it brought back too many comforting memories to count while listening to those tapes in my car..and singing loudly. Thank you Five for Fighting for the amazing memories!!!
Life is so beautiful and awesome...I love how this song just makes everything so simple..We're all we got on this giant bouncy ball, and the only reason to life is us, our fellow humans that we share it with...so damn cool...
I love this song ...Its a real reminder that Life's possibilities are Limitless...Imagination is wonderful...Heres to the Human Spirit and choosing to soar above it all !!!!!
I dunno what Criminal Minds is but uh... this has always been my favorite Five for Fighting song. First time seeing the video, though I bought the single over a decade ago!
This song is on the end of Criminal Minds season 2 episode 1. It took me so long to find it because they only play the end of the song. I thought it was James Blunt originally. Can't believe I've never heart it before.
This is an artist! Elvis said Roy Orbison had the best voice he had ever heard. This guy has that voice. John A. Five for fighting is a total musician. Voice and composition? Killer delivery! All of the above!

More beautiful music from the 90s. It was a very difficult time in my life, and the music and my daughter, along with God's grace, got us through it all.
The only thing better than the band is the piano playing lead singer. Seriously, nobody has rocked a piano like this since Elton 50 years ago. And the accompanying band is just awesome too.
100 Years came out in 2003 (mid-20’s for me) and I loved it. Crazy how I’m now 45 (for a moment), headed into a crisis, in part because of sea level rise.
His voice and lyrics always hit me straight in the heart. So meaningful. I am 71 and never get tired of listening.

There was a man back in '95
Whose heart ran out of summers
But before he died, I asked him
Wait, what's the sense in life?
Come over me, come over me
He said
Son, why you gotta sing that tune?
Catch a Dylan song or some eclipse of the moon
Let an angel swing and make you swoon
Then you will see, you will see
Then he said
Here's a riddle for you
Find the answer
There's a reason for the world
You and I
Picked up my kid from school today
Did you learn anything 'causin' the world today
You can't live in a castle far away
Now talk to me, come talk to me
He said
Dad, I'm big, but we're smaller than small
In the scheme of things, well, we're nothing at all
Still every mother's child sings a lonely song
So play with me, come play with me
And, hey, dad
Here's a riddle for you
Find the answer
There's a reason for the world
You and I
I said
Son, for all I've told you
When you get right down to the
Reason for the world
Who am I?
There are secrets that we still have left to find
There have been mysteries from the beginning of time
There are answers we're not wise enough to see
He said
You looking for a clue
I love you free
The batter swings and the summer flies
As I look into my angel's eyes
A song plays on while the moon is high over me
Something comes over me
I guess we're big, and I guess we're small
If you think about it, man, you know we got it all
'Cause we're all we got on this bouncing ball
And I love you free
I love you freely
Here's a riddle for you
Find the answer
There's a reason for the world
You and I
Thanks your lyric

I love this song now. It was the perfect ending to the episode of criminal minds. I cried and played it over and over again until I got some lyrics then I found this and now Jen I listen to it I cry...
Same
I've always liked this song ever since I had to hear it on the radio every day back in 2006..but it didn't become real for me until I randomly started singing it to my newborn son. Now I can't think about it without getting the feels.
I can't sing it to my little girl, cause I'll always cry and can't finish
I love this song more and more with each passing year.
No nudity, no vulgarity just good meaningful music!
Five for Fighting music always lifts my spirits absolutely love it
My favorite Five for Fighting song...... pure gem of a track....
Not known in the UK much but I came across him and his brilliant music. So glad I did . Wonderful!!
🙏🇬🇧💛
Five for Fighting was always such a good songwriter. I hate how much music has been changed in the past 10 years. If rap wasn't a thing, he'd be a top 10 artist of the 21st century and I'm sure of it.
This is my absolute favorite song!
This song has been with me through so many things. Thank you so much, it means so much to me even more as I get older.
I didn't listen to this song since 2008 or something, totally forgot about it! It's like I found a gem , what a lovely song
He's the best. Hits me right in the heart!!
It is seriously on my bucket list to meet this guy. I love his music and attitude.
I love John his talent his kindness!! 🦘🎵❤️
seems like yesterday i was 16, curious and excited about my future. now im 38 wishing i could relive my past and worried about whats gonna happen next. time flys and life goes by way to fast. one day your 16 without a care in the world, the next your pushing 40 with a family to take care of, bills to pay, and living in a world full of hate
Be the difference and add value instantly.
God Bless.
FIVE FOR FIGHTING ROCKS!!!!!
"There are answers that we're not wise enough to see, he said if you looking for a clue, i love you free." wow what an amazing line
I love this song SOOOOOOO much! It really brings back memories of myself when I still went to elementary school. :D
i know this song is great :)
It's not a five for fighting music video without a piano in the desert
Or pianos appearing out of no where lol
jrmaddu1 makes sense
but amazing lyrics.
Exactly...well said, "A piano in the desert" that is why we are here....
You steal things you
my mum,who is 63 years old, love five for fighting very much, and she said that John Ondrasik's voice is crystal clear....and i agree with her...
I love this song ...Its a real reminder that Life's possibilities are Limitless...Imagination is wonderful...Heres to the Human Spirit and choosing to soar above it all !!!!!
its been 18 years and still makes me cry
Me too😢
I dunno what Criminal Minds is but uh... this has always been my favorite Five for Fighting song.
First time seeing the video, though I bought the single over a decade ago!
This song is on the end of Criminal Minds season 2 episode 1. It took me so long to find it because they only play the end of the song. I thought it was James Blunt originally. Can't believe I've never heart it before.

@@MukeshYadav-q7qwhat does that mean?
Wish more songs could make you happy to be alive when you hear them like this one does. Such a pure voice teamed with a sweet melody. Love it.
Love this group and their songs. This one in particular close to my heart
his falseto's so awesome (y)
+kalou1824 a really beautiful falsetto is hard to come by
I can certainly appreciate his talent. It is so good!!
I remember when I was like 7 or 8 and hearing this on the local hits station. This song brings back memories and it so beautiful.
Love you John and you help me be positive in life, thank you
This is an artist! Elvis said Roy Orbison had the best voice he had ever heard. This guy has that voice. John A. Five for fighting is a total musician. Voice and composition? Killer delivery! All of the above!
fisher king part-2 s2e1
any criminal minds fan?
Me. Before Morgan and Hotch left
Oh yes, it’s a FANTASTIC SHOW!
"RULES"
Lol, I just saw that tonight!!
Just watched it and came to TH-cam to add the song tony music playlist
I remember of first hearing this back in 2009 and its now 2014. Time goes by so fast, also brings back tons of memories... :)
"In the scheme of things, well, we're nothing at all."
"I guess we're big and I guess we're small
If you think about it man you know we got it all
Cause we're all we got on this bouncing ball
And I love you free
I love you freely"
More beautiful music from the 90s. It was a very difficult time in my life, and the music and my daughter, along with God's grace, got us through it all.
This guy is a great songwriter.Hes written some standards for the future. No meaningless lyrics.Every word is there for a reason.Good stuff!
I've said it before-- I 'll say it again John has an incredible voice !!!!!
Every five for fighting song is great....I'm 56 and they remind me somewhat of Harry Chapin from the 70's
+George Keenan Five For Fighting is just one guy lol.
@Petechno For me, it would be 1950 through the 60"s
The only thing better than the band is the piano playing lead singer.
Seriously, nobody has rocked a piano like this since Elton 50 years ago.
And the accompanying band is just awesome too.
He has GOT to have some of the trippiest, deepest lyrics. In love
100 Years came out in 2003 (mid-20’s for me) and I loved it. Crazy how I’m now 45 (for a moment), headed into a crisis, in part because of sea level rise.
