- If you love the Dallas Cowboys and their colorful history, then you're going to love this terrific two-minute video by NFL Films which chronicles the uniform color history of the Cowboys franchise from its founding in Dallas in 1960 to the modern era in magnificent Cowboys Stadium. Narrated by Scott Graham, one of the great voices of NFL Films, this video features three uniform history experts: Joe Horrigan who is VP Communications and Exhibits at the Pro Football Hall of Fame where he has worked for more than 35 years; Michael MacCambridge, author of "America's Game: The Epic Story of How Pro Football Captured A Nation" and many other books as well as editor of the massive "ESPN College Football Encyclopedia"; and Scott Sillcox, sports uniform historian.

While I am not a Cowboy fan the white jersey with metallic silver-blue pants is iconic just like Yankee pinstripes.
As a uniform enthusiast i I don't like tge clash of the silver blue pants with silver helmets. Thre different colors just don't work well in my opinion. I like the silver blue if they could use that in helmet that would be nice.

The royal blue jersey was a great look in the mid '60's until 1980, especially with the silverblue pants. Too bad they decided it was unlucky

Wrong information. There weren't only 2 teams that began wearing their white jerseys at home in 1964, there were 6. Rams, Colts, Browns, Vikings and Cardinals all wore their white in almost every home game in 1964. The Cowboys just carried it on the longest, Browns were second longest though they wore their colors at home for all 1975, Rams were 3rd they went back to colors at home in 1972.

Love the white at home and on the road. If was the commissioner of the NFL, I'd ban teams who against the cowboys, to wear their team colors. Just for the cowboys to model their white jerseys. Those jerseys are awesome thank you Tex Schramm RIP.

White can be boring when worn too much
Why can't the blue on their white jersey match the blue on the helmet and why can't the silver of their silver pants match the silver of the helmet? It really messes with me lol
I've noticed that Dallas has been subtle about using different shades of blue over the years. Compare Dallas' jerseys from their first Super bowl appearance to the shade of blue in the Jones era.
Dallas like those quirky colors. The silver/green pants they wear at home happened in the 70's when the owner saw the color in the interior of a car. It's become an iconic look. They have switched their jersey color from royal blue to navy blue over the last decade, but left the helmet colors alone. It is weird that the silver and blue on the pants and jerseys don't match the silver and blue on the helmet, but it's part of a quirky tradition.
The blue on the helmet including the stars matches the current blue 💙 jerseys

What I miss most are the thinner numerals that they had in the 1970s and early 80s. The thicker numerals just don't do it for me.

The term "America’s Team" is a nickname that refers to the National Football League (NFL)'s Dallas Cowboys. The nickname originated with the team's 1978 highlight film, where the narrator (John Facenda) opens with the following introduction: They appear on television so often that their faces are as familiar to the public as presidents and movie stars. They are the Dallas Cowboys, "America's Team".

CARL KWORTH Once or twice a year the Cowboys wear their blue jerseys. One of the games is with the throwback jersey. Other than that I don't see the team wearing blue at home any time soon.

I hadn't realized that the Cowboys wore striped socks from their initial season in 1960 right through the 1994 season, then moved to plain (unstriped) socks from 1995 to the present. Socks tend to be a somewhat forgotten element in a team's uniform, so great pickup on your part! Many thanks - Scott

Our uniform pants are really green though. One thing I wish my Cowboys would wear is all white pants jerseys and helmets with a blue star. Change the uniform to all white on Madden and tell me it doesn't look badass
It doesn’t. All white is boring. Can’t stand those greenish pants🤢🤮, they don’t match the helmet. Not a fan of the white jerseys but with true silver pants it looks good…the blue jersey is the best.

Thanks for the watching and thanks for the question. The answer is that in 1964, several years after the Cowboys franchise began, the Cowboys President and General Manager Tex Schramm started the tradition of the Cowboys wearing their white jersey at home. This was more or less contrary to an unwritten league rule that teams should wear colored jerseys at home and white jerseys on the road. Schramm did this because he wanted Cowboys fans to see a variety of opponents' colors at home games, and that could only be achieved if Dallas wore white at home. And thus a tradition was born.

Do the Cowboys Wear Blue for high profile games and also visiting teams wear colors?! They are silver and Navy Blue!
There navy blue jerseys are mostly worn on the road. The away jersey. White for home, blue for the road. Used to, the Redskins, Eagles, Giants, and the now Arizona Cardinals (formally the St. Louis Cardinals, then the Phoenix Cardinals, when they were in the East before the 2002 realignment) made us were our blue jerseys to there stadiums.
The Dallas Cowboys aren’t the only Dallas team to have a star ⭐️ as their primary logo. Their NHL team is called the Dallas Stars ⭐️
Thanks for the note... And to me the interesting part of that story is the Dallas Stars NHL team moved to Dallas in 1993 from Minnesota where they were known as the Minnesota North Stars. So when then-team owner Norm Green moved the team, North Stars didn't make much sense but Stars did. A pleasant circumstance!

The Cowboys need to either go in with all Royal Blue/White and Silver Blue jerseys and pants, or go all in with Navy Blue. As stated earlier the helmet no longer matches the rest of the home uniform. I think the blue jerseys are horrible and the so called color rush uniform could use some actual color!
The pants look light blue. They do not match the helmets!!! Watching them vs the New York Giants now. Colours simply don't match!!!

Next time you watch the Cowboys on TV look closely at the helmet during a close up shot and you'll see it's a metallic silver blue.

Then why do their home uniform pants have a greenish tint to them? They're supposed to be silver. The pants don't match the color of the helmet.
Hi Steve! Thanks for the note and I hear this comment fairly often. I don't know much about photography, but I always attribute the greenish color as being an optical illusion caused by the sheen of the silver pants and reflected light. But the bottom line is exactly as you say - the pants sometimes look a bit green-ish. Thanks - Scott
Dallas use to be relevant, not so since the 1990’s.
I don't like the white jerseys of the cowboys, looks too generic and plain, the blue jerseys looked better and vibrant.
When Tex Schramm created the cowboys jersey, in actually the white meant they're the good guys, as a visual person like he was. And the blue was generic. And you can see even now. When I see the cowboys jerseys, I'm the same as Tex was.
the green pants with lighter blue stripes need to go, jerry. match the freaking pants to the helmets, for fuck's sake!! the pants that dallas currently wears with the white jerseys are a fucking embarrassment!! oh, and put freaking curtains over the west facing windows during day games at at&t stadium. and one last thing... start selling top-quality, LONG SLEEVED, customizable throwback style jerseys from the different eras.
I Might pissed off Every Cowboys fans I would enjoy if they were the team that move to Nevada instead of The raiders but not Las Vegas probably be up northern. Nevada kinda does desribes Cowboys and The Colors repsent Nevada.
