Same, I'm twice the drummer I was because of Rob's channel, the doubles play along, the hip hop feel vid, the flow play along... their like taking your vitamins. I've started playing the first one of these exercises at 0.75 speed leading with my weak hand, it's a monster to tame but when you switch back to strong hand leading it's soooooo much easier. My goal is to eventually play through both of these weak hand leading
I have become an addict to watching your lessons videos. You are not only a legend drummer but a great tutor Rob. You ll have the blessings of millions around the world who are picking up drumming watching your videos. This morning I played along double strokes for 20 Minutes. I have now come to office and watching your single stroke lessons which I ll practice at home in the evening.
I was appalled at how hard I found this, so I reduced the tempo to 90 then increased by 10 every 5 mins and VIOLA, started to fly. Thanks Rob for a simple yet effective practice.
Total beginner here. I wanted to do this exercise but of course it was way out of reach. Your comment prompted me to slow it down to 0.5x ... and boom! Perfect for me. Thanks!
This is SO timely. I just bought a DW practice pad set last night and decided I was going to spend the next couple of weeks developing my single strokes. Thanks for this!
They say that you really have something on lock, autopilot, when you can have a conversation and execute what you are playing at the same time. It's great to see someone as talented as yourself show these kind of weaknesses. It shows us that despite how good we become on this instrument, there is always something to work on and keep fine tuned. You definitely have some of the more real lessons on TH-cam.
Man I do this exercise leading off with my left hand and it has really helped to develop that wild stallion of a left wrist! Every day many times a day and I can see I will be there NO TIME FLAT!! I Mostly LOVE that you are in this to create a new wave of great drumming and not the FAME! It shows how much you truly love our community! AMEN Brother! Thank you for everything! You will go down as one of the greats! I will help to make sure of that any way I can! The only DR. I will ever need! Mental health stabilized!
@Robbrown Thanks for being my `daily date` for the last two years. I know every nuance of this dude`s voice by heart already. Cheers from Tel-Aviv Israel.
I have practiced these exercises for about 3-4 weeks now and today there was pretty much no tension anymore and it gets easier every time. These two have already done wonders! 👍
Those are my go to’s also, and incorporate some spang alang rll, rll, lrr,rll with the the single triplet drill my speed has increased quite a bit also thanks to these drills, and I keep pushing to get quicker, but also clean & if I’m off that day I slow it back down till it’s clean, Thanks Man🙏🏻💙🤘🏻🥁
I am a beginner and doing singles on practise pad a lot. You said that speed does not mather in this exercise. But I think there is a lot of speed to be gained here. I have a singles exercise spanning 8th, 16th and 32th notes on 60 bpm. But the accelaration between 16th and 32nd notes is 100%, not really fair, while between 16th and 16th-triplets is 50%. That's why I love your exercise... the accelaration is do-able; easier to crank up the bpm next round... using the 16th to tweak consistency and economy of motion, and the 16th-triplet to accelerate and keep it up/clean. Reason number two of loving this exercise is that it gets me on the grid of even en uneven notes per beat. There is a lot of content in this exercise. Thank you Rob! Love ya man!
Thank you, BeatDown! This exercise is awesome and even after doing it for a few times, I already noticed a difference. I've been doing an endurance pack. Both exercises, each 5 minutes right and then 5 min left lead. And then on the kit. Trying to put the accents as cymbal crashes. Not easy (at least for me).. You have made this drummer's playing much much much more solid, Rob. Thank you... Plus live BPM and Moises have been a game changer, as well. Love you brother, God bless 💙
Great work out, Rob! One quick suggestion if you don't mind. It might be helpful and interesting to get a few close ups of your hand action while you play from different camera angles? its hard to see your left hand with the snare mic blocking the view. Thanks!
Hi Beatdown; FYI, I’m a professional, non-professional drummer, hobbyist drummer who has just wanted to improve my skills. Watched several clinic videos and the elite Pros lose me really quick. Did lots of exercises with questionable rewards. You’ve helped me out with practical suggestions for improvements like no other. Thanks!
Holy wow man. You know me, I been so lazy all these years. But I’ve been on a pad a teeny bit lately and this here video is what’s going to kickstart me into a new thing. Instead of five minutes each I’m goin 10 and man oh man what a workout. Im gonna keep doin them and see what happens. Thanks man.
I am a longtime musician who is now learning the drums and I can attest this exercise, beginning at 70-75 bpm, is great for competent musicians who want to learn the drums!
Thanks Rob, I'm trying to learn to play at church, it's hard though , I dont move my wrist the right way , I never learn traditional grip, I love that exercise, I'll keep trying!
Great workout Rob, it feels real good, i even did it with left hand lead and it felt real good ... In a few weeks with all these workout I am sure I will see great improvement in my drumming ... Once again, thanks man!! "Greeting from Jamaica"
Awesome! Like spinning class for drummers! You’re the best Rob! Fellow drummers. This is valuable education! Please donate or sign up with Patreon so we can keep Rob motivated.
One of my go too’s and reversing leads to get my weak left hand up to my right hand single triplet drill I’m good but 16th triplet 32nd singles still slow, 😖but making progress🤘🏻👏🏼
Rob, thanks a bunch for all of your videos. This one plus another you have on singles for speed are exactly what I need right now. I recently joined and old 80s punk band friends of mine from my teens. At 50, i feel I still shred pretty hard but the quickness of my youth has faded a bit. Mostly because Ive been playing alot more R&B in recent years as my old hardcore bands have disbanded or moved away. First few jams with the new group were great but i would reach for quick single 16ths across the kit and found they just weren’t there for me as easily anymore. I love all of your videos but these two in particular are just what the old dog needed to get back in shape. Thanks again! Youre the best!
9:47 16th triplets into 32nds-- crucial and essential. Been part of my warm-ups for decades. Warms up the hands REAL nice! Hint: 1. Keep pushing that metronome tempo higher; 2. Do all the same exercises with your FEET-- double-bass-drum chop builder for sure!! Your calf muscles will BURRRRN!! Great tutorial as usual Rob!
Thank U my brotha beatdown Brown, it's great being able to play along with you man. 5 min Single and the big 20min doubles work out are great.Your the best teacher I have ever had, thanx again!!!drummerT60+:) peace*
Rob this is such a good workout and I find that it’s bringing in a “flow” to my playing and the muscles are getting comfortable with this tempo. Simple And effective. Kudos
These guided workouts are great. For instance, every now and then, when you mention loose hands, I will sort of snap out of the nearly meditative state exercises like this gets me into and realise that hey, there's some tension there, and then release it. Had I been doing this alone with just a click I don't think it would have been nearly as effective. It is also surprising how much more fun it becomes when the click is an actual beat, rather than *click-clack-clack-clack-click-clack-clack-clack*.
Like most drummers I've spent countless hours working on most rudiments and even the hybrids. Seems I struggle with the simplest sticking of all, single stroke roll! Probably the most important one as well! Thanks Rob!
Hi Rob, After many years of playing, watching your videos has made me realize how my sticking skills suck! Thanks for the inspiration to getting back to basics, now im practicing your lessons every day 🤟
Thank you so much for sharing the knowledge Rob, I use your videos daily either for both practice and inspiration, my my hands and my feet are so improved thanks to these videos and I am a happier drummer and musician. Big love Alex
I’ve been using this to build my left hand. Leading and Playing the quarter note pulse on the left. Almost a completely different thing when you are starting out with it haha. Only took a couple of weeks and I’ve seen massive benefits. Thanks for these videos, you help keep me motivated
Thanks Rob. Started drumming again after too long away from the kit. 20years to be exact. A great exercise, and the benefits are almost immediate. Just zoning out and feeding the muscle memory. Thank you as always sharing so unselfishly
Thanks a lot! improved my singles greatly. I also found that it helps strengthen my weaker hand when I lead with my left (so the accents are on the left hand). In fact after doing this, leading with my right got faster as well. Thanks!
Thank you Rob for all your great content!!! I’m a grown man trying to reach this goal I’ve had since I was a teenager lol seems harder now but your lessons help and I’m making progress... So thank you!
Rob Brown your video are a great help have not pick up a pair of sticks in 8 years went through some mental problem but now feeling like my mind is back to want to play , some stuff have to take slow but my hands are feeling good so thanks
Great workout, 44 year old drummer and my left hand is weak on all aspects. I cant quite keep up but i can tell this is helping. I have always said screw the left hand i can wing it but the truth is you cant fake it that long, time to do work
Here’s one I came up with that’s really fun: 4-6-8-doubles - you play the first three sequences, then play the third one again, only playing doubles instead of single strokes. Start out at an easy tempo (70 or 75 bpm) for 10 minutes, and then increase the tempo daily.
HI Rob, thanks again for another great hand development exercise. Lefty player here,my right hand traditional grip is getting a nice workout as I lead with the right as you do. Also it's improving my matched grip, I'm doing the workout twice.
Great workout Rob! Thank you for the workout. I did the 20 double and two 5 minute singles instead of playing the kit today. My hands feel good, but I cant say the same for my forearms. Look out Popeye! LOL. Will totally add to my drum practice sessions. Now for the finger exercises.
As always Rob, I love your simple breakdowns and genuine teaching skills. You're a true gift to the rest of us aspiring drummers, I never get tired of watching. Thank you so much :)
Great workout idea. I started out at the 120 with you but my 16th-note triplets could not hang with the tempo. Dropped back to 80 ppm and shot for consistency. Thanks for posting these Rob!
3:30 first exercise
10:45 second exercise
I've been doing this for almost a year now and my hands have improved massively 👍
Same, I'm twice the drummer I was because of Rob's channel, the doubles play along, the hip hop feel vid, the flow play along... their like taking your vitamins. Incredible, I can feel the benefits after some days ....I love this guy !!!
Prove it!

And Rob sounds hilariously stoned at half speed.
I am laughing so hard at the slow downed Rob talking. The moment he said speed doooessnn't matter I lost it
My right hand was OK at 110 but my left I had to slow down to 95 bpm.
@@ssonicdeafmonkey Both together must have sounded awesomely polyrhythmic.
;)
This is SO timely. I just bought a DW practice pad set last night and decided I was going to spend the next couple of weeks developing my single strokes. Thanks for this!
Perfect👌🏾
Despite bumping this down to 100 BPM, putting my phone on silent, closing the door and the blinds, I finally conquered this exercise #EASILYDISTRACTED
My single stroke was weak, mostly my left hand being unpracticed. These exercises are great for bringing it up to quality.

Ok this kicked my whole rear end. Lol I haven't played in years and all of a sudden I'm inspired to play. Thanks now I'm practicing my rudiments.
I dig pros like you!
Im on the down right now. Lots of spiritual attack. This helps get my mind off it temporarily.

THANKYOU FOR THIS ,I FIND IT SO EFFECTIVE AND ENJOY PLAYING ALONG WITH YOU !!
Im so glad I found you. I love your delivery and down to Earth approach. No nonsense, no fat. I am 63 and returning back to drums. So thanks so much!

I agree, he's the best on youtube

Man! I'm just starting and glad I found your channel out here!
Love your videos, Rob. Thank you! I also like playing a diddle at the end of each 2nd bar to keep the lead hand alternating.
Good idea!
Thank you for this other helpfull workout !!

Great exercises ......great Tutorials .....love your U tube Channel 🥁👌
Love the encouragement while tapping.
Thanks a lot! improved my singles greatly. I also found that it helps strengthen my weaker hand when I lead with my left (so the accents are on the left hand). In fact after doing this, leading with my right got faster as well. Thanks!
Great stuff.. I'd suggest swapping to lead with your other hand every 4 or 8 or 16 bars... Just chuck in single paradiddle every so often. RLRR LRLR
Thank you Rob for all your great content!!! I’m a grown man trying to reach this goal I’ve had since I was a teenager lol seems harder now but your lessons help and I’m making progress...
So thank you!
Gave this a shot with my feet. Gonna be a new daily hand/ foot workout after the Tommy Igoe warmup! Thanks Rob!
Nice little work out,,,,,,, totally dig it. :] thx beat down.
Thanks for this video; it helps! Also, I love your shirt.
Awesome, thank you! Keep coming up with more of these pad workouts, please!
I love these exercises! Can you add a bass drum beat to them for us so to use on the kit?
So awesome! 🤘🏻

That funky workout loop though ....
It’s dope, right?! 😏
Thank you!! I'm trying this all day, great lesson as always
Thank you for pushing me!
Thank you Rob!
Great workout idea. I started out at the 120 with you but my 16th-note triplets could not hang with the tempo. Dropped back to 80 ppm and shot for consistency. Thanks for posting these Rob!
Thanks, I need to work on these
Nice job, Rob! I love how smooth and relaxed your hands and fingers are! Nice technique!
Thanks, man 🙂
This is what I needed and I could simply increases the tempo and it will also help increase speed and endurance. Thanks!
