i've never been one to care about project bags, I always just chuck whatever project I have in my every day bag and call it a day. but it wasn't until I came across some really pretty ones from a norwegian shop called strikkefeber that I just knew that I had to have one and it's honestly a game changer
You are my favorite podcast to watch! You are so fun and informative. I get excited about whatever you’re talking about. I love your laugh and how you go with the flow. I’d watch you clean!😂 if I’m ever in your neck of the woods I’m taking you out for a drink! Your knitting friend in Kentucky
Wow! Those are some serious bags. 😂 I think I’m still in the budget bag phase of knitting, but then I do most of my knitting at home and don’t knit garments so I can get by with small canvas/fabric project bags and one supply bag. I have a lot of upholstery scrap fabrics so should start making my own,
Great Podcast...I believe that I have at least 50 project bags...and I love them all. I'm a walking knitter...usually socks in a small bag over my wrist... practice, practice...
No judgement here! I, too, LOVE project bags! I have WAY more than 10, but you probably do, too. Yarn, project bags, progress keepers... I'm addicted to ALL of it.
You are my soul sister!!! I love all things project bags, too!!! I crochet, but I NEED all the bags to transport yarn...every WIP, every bag!! All the bags!! I love the video, you enabler!!!❤❤❤
I do take small projects out with me and sometimes people stop me to ask questions. I was in a store a month ago with some friends. At the checkout I was knitting and a store employee came over, exclaiming over my work (a sock). She called others over to see and I thought it was pretty funny how excited she was and what a scene it became. I had a Beautiful Syster bag that day😊, it's bright and cheerful (and great for socks and hats).
Oh project bags are always my addiction , 😂 I also sew my own for Halloween, Xmas , spring, fall and summer. I started sewing them since the ones I liked were Very expensive. 😅
I love project bags as well, and every single one of my projects, needs one…that’s why we need so many!! I belong to the group of people who almost NEEDS to have knitting (sometimes also crocheting) in my hands when I’m leaving the house. Be it on the treadmill at the gym, in the city, while going for a walk or hiking. It’s honestly safer for me to work on a project while walking than if I’d be on my phone! I’ve fallen over stuff, or walked against stuff cause I was concentrating on my phone, but I’ve not even stumbled while knitting while walking ;-) I even work on lace and cable projects as long as I know the pattern by heart 😊 At least with my current lace projects I have to look at my hands the whole time (mainly due to the yarn), and it still works perfectly 😂
Oh my, I broke my leg once by simply walking, I'd be afraid to try knitting and walking at the same time! Thanks for sharing your beautiful bags. I tend to be more of a "grab whatever is on hand" gal. I did order a Tikum Olam Gogos bag, because I loved the story!
@@Knicoleknits OMG! They just called me because there was going to be a slight delay in shipping. They wanted to make sure I didn't need the bag urgently! What great customer service!
Wow! That’s fantastic. I’ve found that Jimmy Beans and Thread and Maple also provide next level service like that. Here’s to supporting great sellers and makers! ❤️
It’s amusing watching your videos out of order (as I’ve been doing), seeing you talk about a thing that you’ve done, then hear Past You mention a thing that you haven’t done but plan to do. 😁
NICOLE! I needed a new backpack (my last one is an Osprey and is reaching the end of its 20 or so year run). I take it on planes as my carry on, knitting projects always stuffed inside. I take it to my grandkid's houses when I babysit. I ordered (actually pre-ordered) one from Jimmy Bean (I wanted a different color, so I ordered what they are calling a crochet bag but it definitely is the same thing, plus I sometimes crochet (but not usually). And it is TEAL! (My current bag is teal.) Color matters. PS, your colors are my colors. I have to push myself to knit non-blue/blue-green things. Anyhow, thank you for these recommendations. I think. No, really, thank you!
Also, I should say that I always try to sit my current bag on top of my luggage bag, gerrymandering with the shoulder straps, but it always tips sideways once I start walking. The back band on this one you showed sold me. Boy am I glad I watched this because I would have wound up with another Osprey, most likely, but to find a bag geared towards makers is just amazing. Never knew there was such a thing. I, too, have bag/purse issues, and I had to resist some of the others you showed. I really like the one made out of a sail and the Ukranian one is beautiful. But I'll save these for another day. Now I'm ready to just find small, non bulky bags for my WIPS that I can put into the Della Q, depending on which one I decide to take.
That was great fun! Even though I'm a "use a baggie to hold a project" person, I appreciate the eye candy, as well as the enthusiasm of those who are project bag officiados. Oh, and the Oscar sidebars are always appreciated. 😊❤️
I walk and knit all the time. A basic sock is ideal-except possibly the heel turn! I use a rip-stop nylon project bag that can be snapped onto my belt loop or around my wrist.
Hi Knicole! I have been knitting while dog walking for years. Generally socks, for all the obvious reasons. Many years ago, I felted an oversized knitted cross shoulder bag that held my max 50g ball of yarn and a partial sock (and poop bags)!. Guilty of walking her off leash, but she’s glued to me! I get a good inch or two done.
I walked through a cave tour while knitting! I made a drawstring bag attached to my belt. Smaller simple projects are definitely easier because you don't know when, where, or why you need to shove the project back into the bag to deal with other things. Bigger projects get bulky and can get dirty while moving around. Early in the project it's okay but once you get further along on the bigger projects it's just a hassle.
@@Knicoleknits if you can walk the area then you can knit while walking. 😅😆 It's mostly a matter of bulk and if it will catch on anything. Got teased for knitting while we took the cave tour. 😊
Thank you for the great episode. I ❤ project bags of all sorts. It’s fun to match project and bag by size and color. They are perfect to buy when on a yarn diet 🤷🏼♀️ oh wow bags from Amsterdam has beautiful bags available in some shops over here. What is your opinion about zippers? Some love for security others don’t love because of yarn catching
Yeah, I'm not a big fan of zippers for project bags, except maybe for small pockets to keep markers and other small tools in place. My favorite closures are magnetic 😊
I must be lacking the bag-buying gene - I have one and only one knitting bag. It’s made of canvas & has the hand & foot prints of my grandchildren, it was given to me for Mother’s Day 2011 & has been used almost every day nice then.
I love making unique project bags for knitting. I make a bag very similar to the Debs Bag but am currently making modifications to add additional knit friendly features. This VLOG has me thinking . . .
i enjoy walking and knitting but i need to have a separate project for it as I find my tension loosens up a bit when I am knitting without looking at my work.
I'm a lover of knitting bowls. I have two that are wooden and one ceramic. A couple of bowls from a thrift shop made of bamboo. The smaller bamboo bowl I carry to knitting group in a dollar store whicker bag. I do need a project bag. Thank you for this project bag roundup. It helped me decide what I like and don't like. I'll be on the lookout for one when I visit yarn shops in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. I'm looking forward to the hunt.
Your first bag is called Field bag originally made by Fringe supply and now the pattern is sold by Grainline studio. The pattern specifically says that the FO can not be sold so that may be the reason, why there is no maker's mark... I wouldn't know either, but I'm just making my first one myself so I noticed...
I knit "on the go" all the time usually walking around following my kids as they play outside. But i use a cross body bag not the wrist thing. Its like a moble hands free yarn bowl and i can drop the whole thing in whenever i need to.
I have a few project bags. None were very expensive and are made out of heavy canvas. I just started knitting again and they are coming in handy. I think I got them in New Jersey at Joann Fabric and Crafts.
You asked for advice about knitting while walking: recommend pieced project or small project (tried it with Joji Locatelli’s Ranch Coat and it was cumbersome), something simple (socks, ribbing, etc.), walk on a paved path. That’s all I have. Who else has ideas?
$275! I am reorganizing my craft room, and then I will buy a project bag. I have tons of cheap ones I got for free when I bought yarn. But they don't get my heart pumping.
You’re going to love it! I highly recommend Baaad Anna’s, which is close to downtown. If you’re in the Surrey area, Valley Yarns is another favourite of mine 😊
