Absolutely - reading your knitting is important. One reason is so that when you see something in your fabric that looks funny to you, you can determine why. Another reason is so that you can look at your knitting and anticipate what comes next. It also allows you to figure out where you are in your pattern, among other things. IMPORTANT!
Reading your knitting is truly an important skill. As knitting happens, the knitter occasionally checks their work to look for mistakes, loose stitches, all kinds of things. Literally like reading letters combined to make words used to make articles, books and so on, reading knitting is reading stitched combined to make a pattern from garter & stockinette, cables, lace and like which are used to create all manner of knitted items. Editing a written piece to make certain that it makes sense, is free of spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors, and fits the audience is to reading knitting to make certain that the gauge remains constant, stitches aren't twisted, dropped, split; no (glaring) errors in the work, cables crossed incorrectly...A knitter reads their work to make certain that things are as they are supposed to be exactly like a writer would proof their work as the write. Like learning to read, it takes practice.
Most of my favorite podcasters here on the Tube are unedited, relaxed, and spontaneous. I don't mind it one bit. Also, I was so inspired by your shawl modification videos that I've cast one on to try making a wraparound/poncho. :)
Ok. This was a fun episode. I had a mentally draining day so your wandering commentary fit the bill! Thank you! Also, reading your knitting is game changing! It allows you to figure out where you are and if you've made an error you can try to fix just the error and not feel like you need to frog and start again (which I did ALOT in the early days). Anywho, enjoy the rest of the week!
Nicole, I started watching your videos this week and am loving everything and how you explain your likes and dislikes for certain patterns and styles which makes sense. I would love to buy the pattern for the last pullover blue and gray. Thank you very much.
Thanks so much for watching! I haven't written up the pattern for my deco pullover and I'm still not sure that I will. I may just offer the chart I designed for purchase and let folks add it to their own favorite circular yoke sweater patterns. Stay tuned! 😋
I have been SO enjoying your vids Nicole! I was just watching this one and wondering where you are, when you mentioned being on an island. Lo and behold, you’re on Vcr Island, where I am too! I love your sense of humour and your fabulous tips! ❤️
Love this. Unplugged is completely fine with me. So much more like me. lol Reading your stitches is soooo important, it makes life so much easier. I hope you can convert the deco pattern to mosaic it would be much easier. I love the deco sweater so much though I would even do it in stranded knitting. I like the neck you showed last as well
Love your style… I listen to you and it sounds like the monologue in my head. Couldn’t I just do mosaic knitting instead of stranded knitting???? I’m wondering about colour dominance, I learned the hard way that it IS a thing 😂. Can’t wait to hear what you find out. Keep them coming. And BTW, it’s always aperitif time somewhere, well at least that’s what my dad used to say when he picked me up from school on Saturday mornings. I grew up in France and yes, we had school on Saturday mornings… I hope you had a great time at Fiber West. It was not in my cards this weekend. 🍸
Funny video!!! Hope you are enjoying Fibres West today. I went yesterday and enjoyed squishing all the beautiful yarns. Yes, came home with a few lovely skeins of fingering… Met former group knitting friends and a few Guild members.
I just finished the Purl Soho sweatshirt. I added a hood and finished it off with tablet weaving braid on the hood and pocket. The pattern was written very well!
That's so cool! I wish the Anacortes-Sidney ferry was still running. We'd be visiting the islands regularly if it were. We do love to travel down to Seattle now and then, but haven't had the opportunity to explore the islands as much as I'd like 😊
I completely understand reading your knitting. I'm working on a fisherman's cable sweater for my husband, and there are 3 different cable patterns with 3 different numbers of row repeats, and it helps so much to be able to look at the row I knit before and know exactly what I need to do next with each cable.
Are you absolutely sure there was no gin in that glass? 😆 Anyway, regarding the sweater you're going to rip back and reshape, I'm wondering if you could just save most of the bottom of it on a cable, pick up the stitches just above you starting point for the mod, cut out the bad part, then graft it together to finish, instead of reknitting all of that? I'm not speaking for myself because I can't do a decent Kitchener stitch to save my life, but I've seen other people do it.
Any suggestions for finding the Knit Stars - Hedgehog Fibres Quarter One cash/merino? I love it and tried both websites. Thanks for an entertaining enjoyable half hour😂 as usual.
Hi, thanks for your video. I'd be interested in buying your version (infinity cowl) of the Purl Soho Stitch Block cowl you mention. I didn't find it in Ravelry. Could you help ?
Thanks for being interested in my infinity version of that cowl! The pattern for the original Stitch Block is free on the Purl Soho website. The original is worked flat and grafted into a loop. I converted the stitch patterns so that they could be worked in the round instead of flat, then worked them in a tube and reduced the length of each section to make a smaller cowl. I just realized I haven't put this project up on Ravelry yet. I'll find my notes see if it makes sense to include the details of my modifications on the project page in Ravelry (or maybe on my website). Stay tuned! 😄
The moment you said Shelley from Knit Stars was wearing a Tin Can Knits pattern with a hard to pronounce name, I shouted CLAYOQUOT! Not hard to say, you just have to ignore the spelling

I enjoy you unplugged. Stop saying you’re lazy, you’re not, you’re busy & involved! Many of us are busy with half of what you do!

Well said!! ❤️
I totally agree that learning to read your knitting is so helpful. And I agree you are not lazy, just trying to do it all, like the rest of us. ❤
Yay! Thanks for watching me be "lazy" ;-)
Don't know about Knit Stars. More please. 😊
Very enjoyable show! Thank you!
This video is a hoot and a holler. You’re awesome!
Glad you enjoyed it! 😁

Yay! Let me know how it goes 😊
Relax away and be you! Watching your podcast is liking sitting down to knit nite with a fun friend.
Perfect! Thanks for watching 🥰
You are a hoot Nicole! Keep doing what you are doing! I’ve done quite few crochet cable projects, they’re so much easier than knitted cables.
I got my knitting (Farnese shawl by Polka Knits), coffee and cookies, and I am here for all that is this video. 👏
Mmm…cookies 😋
I enjoyed your “unplugged” podcast. What a cheery way to start my day .🙂
Glad you enjoyed it!
It's all good! ❤
i Like unplanned, slightly chaotic Nicole!
Me too 😘

Gives your martini glass the side-eye as I witness your giggley girly laughter. No judgement, just wonder why you're not sharing! Big cheesy grin!

I love to hang out with you as I knit. Relaxed is good.
Yay! :D

I haven’t found an issue with color dominance in mosaic. I think because you’re not switching out colors in the same row. Thanks for watching! 😁

It was great, thanks!! 😊

I also live an island just a bit south of you. I understand what you are saying about wind and random weather changes.

@@Knicoleknits Yeah our Ferry system is a challenge between old ferries and staff shortages lots of changes.
Wow that's gorgeous
I wear Merino in the summer all the time, even in hot temps, it works nicely.
Thanks for the fun ramble!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Yes! You are exactly right. That is what I shall do 👍 Thank you 🙏🏼🥰
If on the wrong coast for Vancouver gatherings today.
Bummer!
Thank you for being, well, you.❤
I like your honesty. Less acting and styling gives one more time for knittig🎉
Thank you! 😊
I have a lot of Knit Stars.
Yay!
It would be great if you can convert that colour work to mosaic. I have been thinking the same thing. I have a similar problem with circular yokes.
I’m going to give it a shot! 😁
I need that bust dart thing! I spent so much time on this sweater only to find out it is too tight in the bust and soo disappointing.😢
Go find Kim McBrien Evans. She can definitely help!
Any suggestions for finding the Knit Stars - Hedgehog Fibres Quarter One cash/merino? I love it and tried both websites. Thanks for an entertaining enjoyable half hour😂 as usual.
Thanks so much! I think maybe possibly it's an exclusive run for Yarniverse members who have access to the kits? I'll check for you :D
@@Knicoleknits think I found it - “Oh so fine cashmere - Arctic Mirage”. Is that the same as the color you have??
Yes! That’s the one. Good work 👍
Reading your knitting will change your game!!!😅
Yes! Thank you 😊
Lefty here, and I’ve never mastered crochet. I blame it on being left-handed but that sounds like an excuse.

@@Knicoleknits Many thanks for your feedback. Not sure I'm good enough to do the "conversion" myself. Will watch your Ravelry account.
Watch out for cheap tape measures because sometimes the fabric ones are not accurate! I had ones from sewing kits and their measurements were way off!
Yes! This is so true. Thanks for adding this tip 😊
How do u do that ....make a design of yer own on a sweater
6:41 This reminds me of the TARDIS. Is that intentional?
No, but you're right - I can see it too 😊
The moment you said Shelley from Knit Stars was wearing a Tin Can Knits pattern with a hard to pronounce name, I shouted CLAYOQUOT! Not hard to say, you just have to ignore the spelling
Ha ha! Exactly 😁
How do we get a kit ?? Thx
If you go to my video page and find the Artus KAL vid, then look in the description box, you’ll find all the links 😊
