  • I was very happy to find a great alternative to those chintzy, o-ring, supposedly "JDM"(yeah right) bumper latches. Quik-Latch quick disconnect latches combine form & function perfectly. BTW, the ones I installed are their most commonly sold size, and are 1.25 inches in diameter. They also offer several colors, or you can powder coat/paint them yourself. Also, these are NOT limited to being used on bumpers! They can secure just about anything! They also offer hood pins! Check out their website for more info!!!
    In my opinion, labelling a "MacGyver" type fix as somehow being "JDM" or "because racecar bro" is not a good excuse. Not hating on those who use other latches, they may not have known there are better options, but personally, I cannot stand them. They irk me. Lol.

    Hey everyone, thank you for watching & showing so much support!! All of the product info is in the description. Also, to address a common question: The side brackets can be purchased through a Subaru dealership or online at FastWRX. > www.fastwrx.com/products/bumper-side-support-2006-2007-wrx-sti

    Awesome!
    1. You explain in very thorough detail exactly what you are doing in the first part of the video.
    2. In the second part of the video you SHOW what you are doing.
    3. Net result: A clean, easy to understand process that solves most sagging bumper issues on most cars.
    I used your process and was able to fix the bumper problem on my 2015 Toyota Sienna.
    Keep up the great work.
    God Bless.

    This is awesome! i've always wanted to do this to my poorly mounted bumper but wasn't exactly sure how. i love the look and also how convenient the bumper pops right off. I'll definitely reference back to this video when i eventually tackle this project on my car. 👍👍

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome! I agree! Most of the rubber band clips I've seen in person were broken anyhow & the owner was using zipties instead. They look so cheap. These latches are much better & are still in excellent, like-new condition a year later.

  • @AWDfreak

    I take my Subaru off-road (no, I don't mean just unpaved, I mean skidplate-scraping off-road) and I often find myself ripping the sides of my front fascia off my XV Crosstrek. This is precisely the kind of solution I wanted over the silly rubber-band things.

  • @XvStackingBodiesvX
    @XvStackingBodiesvX 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Those are great but those and the rubber band style are made for 2 totally different things so are not really comparable.

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, but literally every single time I've see the rubber ones they were broken. Lol. Mine are going strong years later, so you get what you pay for. The rubber band style use rings that were not intended nor designed to be used to secure a bumper or be exposed to UV light all day everyday.

    Could you cut the tabs off the bumper on the sides and still have this support it? My tabs and clips have started to bend and break but the bumper is otherwise fine. I'd love to install these and just clip off the tabs entirely.

      Ugh. I hate the rubber bands. They are so tacky & always break. I've seen so many cars with zip ties on them instead. These latches are awesome. I added more to make my bumper fully QD & I actually just installed hood pins from the same company. (video coming soon.)

    4:06 so after you take the screw out can your just pull the side bumper off like that???

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. The sides are just held in with clips/tabs. Obviously you want to be careful with it, but there are no other screws or anything on the sides holding it on. The next clips would be behind the front grille. If you have the plastic under-panel &/or fender liners still installed, there will be plastic clips for those in the wheel wells & under the car. 👍🏼

    I've been looking for a product like this. I should have seen this before i bought the support bracket .After viewing this video, i search our local online distributor much like an amazon. They have a china made quick latch just like this. Funny thing is i think its your car in their photo.

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Serge'son Bernabe III Yeah, they stole my pics & screenshots without my permission to sell their junk & rip people of because they are lowlife scumbags. I only recommend authentic Quik-Latches, the knockoffs are cheap & far more likely to break. Besides they stole someone else’s design & pass it off as their own.

      The brackets are OEM Subaru. I just ordered them from the dealership. They can also be found online. I would recommend Subaru Genuine Parts, but they have closed & no longer sell online. RIP. You may be able to find used ones from a part-out or something, but there's a good chance those would be old/damaged.

    Will this work on a 2002 IS300 and can I just use the two latches to support my front bumper ?

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are universal & can be installed on any car. You may need to use brackets for your car, but it depends on where you install them. I would recommend using more than 2 if they are the only thing holding on your bumper. I'm sure 2 are strong enough to do the job, but generally speaking, bumpers need more support than that or they can sag. On my bumper, if I don't use a few clips/latches in the middle, mine will sag.
      Here are some ways people have used theirs. www.quik-latch.com/quik-latch-mini-latch.html

      The Challengers The ones on eBay are garbage knockoffs, I would not recommend them. They are made of inferior materials and are not tested whatsoever. Quik-Latch is small family owned company based in the US. They have patented the design themselves and spent all the money on the necessary R&D required. I know money may be tight for some, but stop supporting China & garbage companies that steal other people’s designs. There is a reason why the eBay knockoffs are cheaper. Speaking from personal experience, cheap junk on eBay is just that, junk.

      Are you ok? Lol. Haven't seen a tantrum like that since kindergarten... I literally go step by step. Yes, that is a screwdriver in my hand...🙄 It's a super easy install, kid. The brackets have Philips head screws, so you need a #2 Philips screwdriver. The latches just need a hole drilled through the bumper, you can use a step drill or a hole drill for this, or you can cut a hole out with a knife, or chew a hole in it, whatever works for you, just sit out the plastic pieces.... Have a pair of pliers or a wrench on hand to tighten down the lock nut. It's that simple. No need to have a childish meltdown because you weren't able to follow some basic instructions, Edward. Fun fact, I made this video before you were even on TH-cam...I get you are new here, but maybe learn how things work before popping a vein? 🤷🏻‍♂😂

      In my experience side skirts are just 3M taped on (dbl-sided weather-proof tape). They're not something you need to keep taking on/off like a bumper, so just tape and go! Use a heat-gun, or fishing line, or whatever, pull them off, clean/scrape off old adhesive, and re-tape them.

      When you apply a dab of toothpaste to the stud & then press the bumper up against it, it shows you exactly where you should drill the hole.

    $27 per latch is ridiculous and they are sold individually I’ll stick to my jdm bands

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bryan Lopez That's cool. Not trying to force anyone to buy them, but high quality parts don't come cheap. My latches still look as good as the day they were installed & they operate flawlessly. I have never personally owned the "JDM" type of latches, but I have seen enough of them broken & zip tied that for me personally, it's worth the money for good latches.

    whys this guy hating on the rubber band system

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, because quite frankly they are garbage. To each his own, but this idea that using rubber bands to secure the front bumper makes your car more "authentic JDM" is BS. Yes, they are cheaper than quick-latch & other latching options, but they don't last nearly as long, are not as streamline, & often end up looking tacky. I have seen plenty of the rubber band style latches over the past few years. I would venture to guess that at least 95% of the ones I have seen were all broken. The o-rings always break & guys have to either source new o-rings, or more commonly they end up using zipties in their place. Why? That's just stupid. Having 'mods' on your car that are broken does not make it look more "racecar", it makes the car look cheap & tacky, like it belongs to a poor high school kid. This is my opinion, but the rubber band system is cheap, ineffective, tacky, & requires regularly replacing the o-rings. I'm a guy who would rather not deal with that BS & install quality latches once.

      taizer Yeah... There is absolutely NO benefit to be able to quickly & easily remove the front bumper with QD mounts at all... Please, grace us with more of your profound & brilliant wisdom.
      BTW, “ricers” use the cheap $10 ebay rubber band systems, not authentic Quik-Latches, but it looks like I’m talking to a fish here... Lol.

    • @v8consumption

      @@hawkeyestiguy do you know how many more bolts are on that bumper lol. I work with guys that build pro drift cars they use these but can remove the bumper with 2 push pins and the side skirts and the rear bumper.
      So you are saying you can remove your bumper with 2 push pins and for what reason. Do you crash your car alot or need the front end off every day
      Its 100% ricer mod no different than the jdm rubber band bs on street cars

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      taizer There weren’t any bolts, the MFG uses plastic clips, & yes, I’ve replaced all of them dude. My whole bumper is QD. Even made a video of the process. You think I’m lying to you about that? 🤣Bumper can be removed & replaced in a few seconds rather than 30+ minutes.
      Being able to remove the bumper easily gives access to the front end, rad, cooler, Headlights, etc, makes is easy to get on & off ramps & flatbeds. Made wrapping the car much easier too. I take off my bumper several times per year & these are far better than constantly breaking & re-buying the stupid plastic clips all the time. That is why I installed them.
      IDK what your deal is, you seem to have a stick up your ass about something, but maybe you should Netflix & chill with your prodrifter buddies-if you act as arrogant around them as you are acting here, I’m sure they miss you being around. Lol.
