Visioninmusica ha concepito un nuovo format che sceglie di legare la musica al territorio attraverso una serie di produzioni video originali realizzate dal proprio team di videomaker e che grazie all’utilizzo di immagini aeree, steadycam e regia multicamera, fanno dialogare musicisti di fama internazionale con i meravigliosi scenari naturali che ne hanno ospitato le live sessions.

MATTEO MANCUSO
La prima edizione di Experimental Vim si conclude con un appuntamento imperdibile live da uno dei luoghi simbolo dell’Umbria, piazza del Duomo a Spoleto. Protagonista è il giovanissimo e fenomenale chitarrista palermitano Matteo Mancuso, acclamato dalla critica e osannato da musicisti di fama mondiale che lo confermano come uno dei migliori finger-picker contemporanei.
Le meravigliose immagini aeree, steadycam e di regia multicamera che contraddistinguono il progetto si accostano alle sonorità incredibili di Mancuso il cui marchio di fabbrica è la personale tecnica esecutiva del pizzicare direttamente con le dita le corde, che gli permette di passare fluidamente dalla chitarra classica a quella elettrica in un vorticoso e originalissimo excursus musicale tra rock, fusion e blues.
Accompagnato da Riccardo Oliva al basso e Gianluca Pellerito alla batteria, ci ha emozionato con la straordinaria interpretazione di "‘Cause we’ve ended as lovers", brano di Stevie Wonder reso indimenticabile da Jeff Beck e la cover di "The Chicken" di Jaco Pastorius. Il tutto ammantato dal fascino senza tempo della città di Spoleto, cuore pulsante dell'Umbria e culla dell'arte e della cultura italiana, vista per la prima volta da angolazioni inedite e spettacolari.

Those kind of people who are really enjoying what they are doing and sharing their passion (and not doing a business of producing only what people want to listen to). I follow them on instagram too and I don't follow a lot of artists like them who share jokes, other compositions and finally their musical intimity. They remind me UZEB at the end of the 90's, a band of friends that became, in my mind a reference.

Amazing. This kid is my new favorite guitar player with his incredible taste and right hand fingerstyle articulation, and this video is in a place I had one of the best experiences of my trip in Italy, right in front of the magnificent duomo in Spoleto across from an enchanting truffle restaurant. This is a great stop if you drive up from Rome to Florence, a lovely town on a hill filled with amazing food and beautiful people. If you have a chance to visit this place, don't pass it up.

Ho 70 anni, suono la chitarra dall'età di 12, ho visto dal vivo TUTTI i più grandi (meno Hendrix..sig...) ma nessuno mi ha impressionato come Matteo...questo ragazzo ha il tocco magico del predestinato, è un fenomeno con elettrica e classica e sarà il numero 1...se già non lo è! E un botto di complimenti anche agli altri 2 fenomeni che lo accompagnano...un trio da FAVOLA!!!

Phenomenal. His finger picking technique allows him to do things that other players can't. Truly one of kind guitarist.
It is fantastic. It does seem to create a duller tone though, which may not be desirable in all situations.

If you like his finger picking technique, I think you’d like Max Ostro. He definitely uses a pick a lot, but he very often plays these incredible legato lines and other lines in which he uses hybrid picking, and his hybrid picking technique is some of the greatest I’ve ever seen, and Max is only 18. Like Mancuso, it’s gonna be amazing to see him develop his playing even further as he gets older

@@stewartzweikoft7598 He *dedicated* it to his wife, but he wrote it for Jeff Beck to do with it as he pleased. In fact, Stevie Wonder wrote both "Cause We've Ended As Lovers" and "Superstition" for Jeff Beck's use.

Ten years ago I was asking myself what will come next after masters like Vai, Satch, Govan, Timmons, Becker, Firkins, Holdsworrth, Gilbert, Friedman etc. I had no idea about what was coming. Then came these magnificent young people ; Mancuso, Asato, Polyphia, Zytecki, Plini, Lewis, Willson, Nito, Fernandes, Basilio, Dey, Jill, Marcin, Misko, Ostro, many more and they changed everything forever. Thank you all !

Gotta give tons of credit to Matteo, he is always top tier. I wanted to add though, Riccardo's bass playing was amazing. Loved his solo, so technically impressive while still tasteful. Throughout he sounded fantastic.
Yeah, too bad the editing focused on aerial drone shots over the bass solos, such a poor choice IMO.
This group's fantastic fusion tone reminds me of the band ICEBERG, with Max Sunyer on guitar... using a pick. lol. But still, it was the later 70's! Now, 50 years later that same fusion vibe shows up with Matteo Mancuso and his brilliant band mates. But now the music is precise and flawless; Pristine.
Phenomenal. I have no words. This kid is simply up there with the very best. The rhythm section just incredible and the venue is to die for. absolutely beautiful, perfect combination in the best fashion and style from Italy. Thank you for this guys. Really awsome stuff.

A minor point, but "The Chicken" was written by Pee Wee Ellis and first appeared as a b-side to James Brown's 1969 single "The Popcorn."

Non si è mai sentito un livello così spaventosamente alto a quell'età....e a livello internazionale. Proprietà di linguaggio, controllo, suono, ritmo, fantasia: questa si che è musica! Spessissimo, purtroppo, i registi di filmati musicali dimostrano di aver poco a che fare con la musica. Poiché se comprendessero davvero, la grandezza che sta dietro a certi gesti tecnici, la straordinaria bellezza della danza delle dita, come nel caso in fattispecie, non sacrificherebbero tutto questo inquadrando spalle e culo del musicista che la offre. Purtroppo, accade troppo spesso. Mai dovrebbe accadere, in particolare, quando siano ripresi Musicisti di tale levatura tecnica.

Cause we've ended as lovers !!! Best cover since Jeff Beck : impossible to say more ;-) The Chicken : wonderful cover after Jaco Pastorius. Jaco and Jeff are my two prefered musicians so Matteo can't put me closer to paradise.
Monster players. Amazing performances. Thank goodness there's still interest in virtuosic jazz rock instrumental music. Matteo really has set a new standard. I suspect many more fingerstyle shredders will emerge over time, it seems to be getting a whole new injection of interest.
La cosa che fa di Matteo Mancuso il più forte chitarrista al mondo è la sua capacita di unire una tecnica inarrivabile ad una sensibilità ed una classe di livello superiore nella "composizione" dell'assolo. Il mondo è pieno di chitarristi tecnicamente ineccepibili che fanno assoli da far cagare e gente che invece fa assoli meravigliosi ma con una tecnica limitata. Matteo è la sintesi del meglio di entrambe le cose. Orgoglio Italiano nel mondo. Oliva..... invece pure.

It just doesn't get anymore hypnotic than this. I JUST discovered the guy a few minutes ago on 7/8/23 and have seen several of his videos earlier and I honestly can't find the words to describe my amazement. The term "Virtuoso" doesn't come close to Matteo's brilliance...It's shocking to beyond "off-the-charts" to...whatever. I don't think I'll ever hold the likes of Pat Metheny, Al Di Meola, EVH, et al in the same regard.

Great rendition of "Because we've ended as lovers". That song has meant so much to me since I heard in '75. Jeff Beck struck out entirely on his own. Thanks Matteo.

Paragone improponibile secondo me ma a parte questo l'esposizione del tema non ha nulla a che vedere con le dinamiche ed il suono che ha Beck su OGNI nota di questo pezzo, basta ascoltare con più attenzione :-) Matteo è sempre eccezionale ad ogni modo

Tuttavia, che non si cerchi la riproduzione fedelissima del suono e delle dinamiche lo si capisce anche dal fatto che la chitarra di Mancuso non è proprio la più idonea all'uopo. Detto ciò, la mia era un'analisi in prospettiva: con la sua tecnica, se volesse, Matteo riuscirebbe a suonare COME Beck. Se avesse senso farlo! Riprodurre fedelmente la Gioconda non fa di te Leonardo. Meglio dipingere roba tua ;) E Matteo lo farà. Buon anno.

Prima di commentare questa band faccio i complimenti allo staff che ha organizzato questo video in un posto meraviglioso, le riprese sono davvero suggestive.
Da musicista, sono imbarazzato dalla bravura straripante di questi tre ragazzi.
Matteo Mancuso lo conosco bene di fama, lo seguo da tre anni in tutti i suoi video, ed è a dir poco geniale e stupefacente, ha una tecnica micidiale, suona con precisione e pulizia del suono con uno stile fuori dal comune e poi la mano destra senza il plettro che arpeggia su tutte le corde mi lascia ogni volta senza parole.
Un altro vero genio che dall Italia può portare la musica nel mondo , un pò come fece anni fa il sassofonista siciliano Francesco Cafiso che andò a suonare con le orchestre jazz americane dei grandi nomi di New Orleans.
Matteo Mancuso potrebbe suonare con gente come Vinnie Colaiuta o John Patitucci , è un musicista che metterei a collaborare con i grandi fenomeni americani. Questi sono i veri talenti che vanno sostenuti , altroché i Maneskin (che pur essendo bravi, non sono una novità perché fanno comunque musica commerciale), ma gente come Matteo Mancuso va valorizzata nel mondo.
A proposito complimenti anche a Riccardo Oliva grandissimo Bassista dal suono raffinato e con un gusto non indifferente e a Gianluca Pellerito magnifico Batterista virtuoso dalla tecnica e dinamica perfette.
E non spaccano gli strumenti ...

As most of the comments here are in Italian, I will just say(in English) that this version of "Sofie" from Jeff Beck's "Wired" lp. is phenomenal. Matteo deftly combines his own unique style while retaining the hauntingly beautiful notes from Jeff's original...with a touch of Holdsworth thrown in. Magnifique!

Forse una critica ci potrebbe stare sulle riprese dei componenti mentre suonano. Al di là di Matteo, il batterista e il bassista vengono quasi ignorati ad esempio sul magnifico assolo di basso.
