    Every trip I take into the wilderness, I pack out nearly twice the trash that I take in. If everyone did that, in a month it would be clean. Then all we need to do is dig some large holes to put those who leave the trash behind in. No one will miss them!

      You forgot to mention to only bury them up to their necks...........in a latrine.🤗

    Definitely! In fact that single pop top can be turned into 2 large hooks and a gorge hook, ... or 4 small hooks and a gorge hook.
    Don't forget the folded aluminum of the top rim of any soda or beer can, that also makes excellent curved hooks, or (properly cut) double or treble hooks.

    My husband showed me how his dad taught him to make fishhook from thorns on a tree as a child. And he caught fish with it too but the method isn't same as steel hook where u hard set the hook y drag it out. It requires patience y finess like using a fly lure. My husband grew up poor in the boonies living off the land. He says he felt like crocodile dundee in new york when he joined the Army y left the boonies. Everyone teased him but when they went into the field he was always the go to guy the light infantry guys would consult or turn to for advice or help. He rose to deity status when he caught y picked up a copperhead viper in the back 40 of ft Campbell. He was the first one in history to spot y mark every trip wire y toe popper on ft Sherman's JOTC booby trap y land mine course in 1998. He only seems happy now when he talks with men he serve with or talks about military. He say he went from a hero to a zero. His team set 2nd fastest time in history on green hell obstacle course in 98 Ft Sherman.

    When you offset the hook, is it to aid the hook, in increased spin?

  • @Ensensu2
    @Ensensu2 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I tried this and got one and a half fish hooks from a soda can tab. I say one and a half because I did some more careful shaping work on the piece I cut off with the pliers of my multi tool. I sharpened it with a file and found that the potential hook, while not able to be a hook in and of itself, could be tied to a stick of the right shape and potentially used as a full hook from such a position. I can also include a link to pictures I could take if it helps anyone out.

    I find the simpler life led the less garbage is created.
    Stll a challenge for me. One reutilisation is worth five recycles.
    Thanks for the tips.
    Somewhat apropos of this I have been looking at christmas tree ornament hangers as hooks. They are cheaper than a politicians reputation.🤗😁🤗
    What does the offset do?
    I have seen a brand called Octopus hooks that has something similar.

    If EVERYONE took all their trash we wouldn't have as much material for improvising things. LolBUT it is BS to throw stuff on the ground like that

    My husband told me how he grew up feeding family by jugging fish with old plastic jugs and telephoning fish. Or they stun fish with green nuts y jig them with a spear. At night he said they'd spotlight fish y shoot them with a bow, sometimes a 22rifle, or jig them. Y he showed me how to limb fish, which diff than ur video but kinda like setting trot lines. I bet he'd like ur videos but he don't like computers.

    I saw ur vid making fire with stainless steel spoon, great skill. can this same thing be done with a domed stainless pot or pan lid? I tried the spoon unsuccessfully so wonder if you can make the domed lid work as well. thanks for all the education on self reliance. really dug the orientation vids. peace thru prep for sure.

    All of your ideas and improvisions are great, but in this case the hook seems a little thick to be holding onto bait. I will try it and post back. Thanks again and I look forward to more videos.

    Nice man. As a kid I'd just find stuff. A pop can makes a good 'pole', then could find a hook and line.
    Then find a bug. Brought home catfish like that a few times.

    If You have to carry a cutter and pen,Isn't better to carry a dozen or so hooks and some line instead?

    • @Temp0raryName
      @Temp0raryName 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pen was optional and of most use to show US what the plan was. Pretty much any sensible person will have a cutter of some sort with them though, if in the countryside. But even if you are butt naked you can improvise one from smashing rocks, like cave men used to do. Likewise they or we can make line from plant materials (or our clothing).
      What they could not do though was make a metal fish hook. Today though we can. Even if we loose all our gear or we get stranded unexpectedly in the wilderness (plane crash or shipwrecked). Just look for the junk.
