  • This is another video in my series “ Walks in Hampshire” accompanied by my Whippet (Logan). In this episode, I visit the villages of Chawton & Farringdon in North Hampshire and undertake a 4 mile circular walk.
    I park my car, for free, in the centre of Chawton directly opposite my first destination - Chawton Cottage (once the home of one of the village's most famous residents - Jane Austen). I take a stroll through the village, passing by one of the oldest houses in Hampshire, and make my way to church of St Nicholas (which has a statute of Jane Austen outside).
    After a quick look at the outside of Chawton House (once the home of Jane Austen's brother), I continue South through Chawton Park to Farringdon. Here I take another little exploration through this very pretty village, checking out the church, a lovely village garden with wild flowers and the extraordinary building known as Massey's Folly.
    I then head West, crossing the A32, and follow the line of the old Meon Valley disused railway back to Chawton. Along the way way I explore something connected to a Cadbury's Milk Tray advert (you will need to watch the video the find out about that!).
    My journey ends back at Chawton for light refreshments at the village pub.

    I use a GOPRO HERO 7 or 8 Black Action Camera (sometimes with a Gimbal) & a Rode microphone (either a “Shotgun” or a Rode Wireless Go) together with a Canon Powershot SX530 HS.

    I live in Farringdon and it was lovely to see ‘my patch’ on one of your walks - The Greyfriar pub is wonderful, a warm welcome and lovely food - and I learned something new, I never knew about the Milk Tray advert being filmed here, I remember seeing it as a child on the tv. Thanks for another lovely walk x

    As soon as I saw Jane Austin’s house, I thought “That looks like an old pub”. I loved the way Logan was looking up at Janes statue. Is he interested in that sort of thing? You always find a couple of horse riders. Are they members of your fan club? Looks like the same ones each time. Ha ha..interesting story regarding Cadbury’s Milk Tray ad. I knew they kept the line open to Farringdon for a number of years in order to serve some sort of depot (although I can’t remember what it was). Lovely walk Dave. Nice to see the lovely warm sunshine in late November.

      I think Logan thought that the statue was trying to give him food! Thanks for watching, Lionel.

    3:21 I believe if that’s the old blacksmith’s cottage it dates back to before 1000 AD and within the forge is a brick with a date / year marking showing something like 990AD…

      thanks for the information. There is indeed a building called "The Old Forge" next to that cottage.

    A very informative and interesting video. I have been to Jane Austen's House twice both on coach trips as I do not drive. I never have enough time to visit Chawton House which I would love to do. Maybe when public transport travel is a bit easier I should look into walking the Writer's Way. Is the main road safe to cross - i.e is there a bridge or underpass or is it a mad sprint through the traffic? Thanks for video - I came to it via Kevin's rambles. Logan looks like he loves to pose for photos!

    • @DaveFord
      @DaveFord  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Jean - and welcome to the channel! There was no bridge or underpass when I crossed the A32 towards the end of the walk. It is a busy road but it is very straight where the crossing is so I was able to see both ways easily and had time to cross (when it was clear) without having to dash. Thank you for watching.
