It's so weird how he just _becomes_ his character. I see the scenes with him, and I _don't see Matt._ They cut from the actor's face to the Doctor's face, and I see two _completely different people._ It's incredible.

I´ve seen this now a bunch of times, but just recently I´ve come to think, that I may have actually understood something, Matt says here wrong all the time! He says, of course there´s always a part of him that says "I never want to go" and then he follows that up with "there are no parts like this!"! I always thought, he meant by that, that there are no parts, you could possibly play as an actor, where you legitimately, 100% seriously can say: "I never want to go!"
But just now, I´ve come to think: Or did he actually just mean "There re no parts like this" referring to the specific part of "The Doctor"? In that case the aspect of him kind of not wanting to go would theoretically become much larger!
Understand what I mean? Can anyone help me clarify?

ChanCeNecK There are many parts like Smith's doctor. The clever silly man wasn't invented by him. He meant the part as a whole. The legacy, the importance in British culture and the feeling of becoming your childhood hero.

People always say " is my doctor", and it's always the one they grew up with. Well I'm 40something and in that sense Tom Baker was "my" doctor. But I have to say that Matt Smith is my favourite doctor. I think he made the part his own more than any other.
I grew up with Eccleston as my first Doctor and then carried on through all of Tennants who then became my favourite after 3 years of him being the doctor but after watching all of Matt's series.. I have to say Matt Smith to me IS the Doctor, he's defintely my Doctor and will continue to be my favourite for a long time :)
i knew of Doctor Who when i was a small child by seeing a few clips without knowing at the time what it was, but the one i first fully seen on TV was Christopher Eccleston back in 2005, but my personal favorite is surprisingly Patrick Troughton, i can't choose a 2nd favorite, quite torn between several actors who've played the Doctor including Matt. But all the actors chosen have been wonderful neither the less

I'm only 18 and my first doctor was either Eccleston or Tennant when I was 7 (technically David's my first since I saw Midnight before watching season 1) but I consider Matt to my MY Doctor just because he's the one I love the most. Ironic seeing as after his first appearance in The End of Time, I hated him because he wasn't David lol.

Many peoples favorite Doctor is based on when they started watching the series.
For me, Tom Baker (Doctor # 5) was playing the part when I discovered Dr. Who. I thought Matt Smith brought a lot of that flavor and added more wacky humor.
He's in the mix of the tie of my favorite. I can't really decide on a specific favorite, I like them all, even the War Doctor (John Hurt) is in there.

What I love so much about Matt is that when he got the job, no one knew him and alot of people refused to accept him as the Doctor. But he proved all those people wrong and he became the Doctor, he earned the right to be called The Doctor! To Matt, Good on ya mate! Love, Whovians everywhere!

I met him in 2010 at a autograph signing after season 5 came out. I told him how great he was & how inspiring he was playing the Doctor. He was so humble & shocked by the comment & thanked me very much. Very nice guy & to this day my favourite Doctor!

@@niallh4194 we don't know how much screen time he will get, or if he will be covered in cgi or not. he hasn't topped it yet all these years later of wanting to go Hollywood. 1 minute in terminator lolz lost river gave him 10 minutes of screen time. Netflix's the crown is incredibly dull. it is funny him wanting to be more successful as he skips out on the most successful and loved part he has ever had. I know, when we are young we get bored and take things for granted.

Matt Smith aka the 11th Doctor will always be my Doctor and my favourite. I love Peter Capaldi but I do miss my wacky 11th Doctor. I cried watching that Christmas Special. I just couldn't stop thinking how cruel it was to have to say goodbye to him on Christmas Day.
One thing I will say about the 12th Doctor that absolutely love is his never ending sass. He's got sass for days. :)

His farewell was actually heartbreaking yet best of all. I might be late on this show but he's the reason I fell in love with the show and the reason I started watching it in the first place.
In my opinion Matt has been the best Doctor... atlest yet but i doubt somone is going to be better
I believe Matt received such a backlash from the public because everyone loved David Tennant and were not ready to part with his Doctor. This happens to also be the reason why Matt's portrayal of the character was never fully appreciated.

He is my Doctor! The most charming, the most caring, the most compassionate; our lonely God who loved deeply, fought bravely and pulled off a freaking fez like no one else ever would!
His Doctor is the most balance of being funny, smart, serious, heartfelt, expressive. Nothing against others, just my preference.

Gah Matt Smith was the reason why I started watching Doctor Who (or continued... I remember once and a while watching David on my vacations at my grandparents. The theme song always haunted me my entire life and I'm glad to be back haha) I gotta say him, and the past two actors where amazing. Matt Smith in my opinion was the best one and he was a lot of fun to watch in the series lol. Kinda makes me wonder how awesome as a friend he'd be in real life, I'd absolutely love his autograph someday.
Made me cry rather badly when he left and was incarnated... Which unusually I'm not a crying kind of person. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant actor/doctor.

The hardest thing about being the Doctor is how they need to escape their predecessors’ shadow. In this case, Matt and Peter did it wonderfully
Matt has succeeded too to act in another iconic role besides Doctor. He is also famous now as Daemon Targaryen in HotD.
Yeah, Matt actually did a GREAT job at the doctor, it was just unfortunate for him that he had to follow a tough act such as David Tennant's. But he delivered. I even admit to being a little sore with him at first because Tennant was gone but Smith was great and between him and Tennant it's hard to say who did better. Matt made me laugh countless times, that's for sure. I gotta say one of my favorite episodes now is Closing Time just because of all the hilarious jokes in there. He did a great job of showing the Doctor's quirkiness and his lack of understanding at times of humans. XD Bravo, Matt. You will not be forgotten.

I already miss him so much ; A ; I started watching Doctor Who with the 5th season so he was my first Doctor and I loved everything about him. He was the reason I fell in love with Doctor Who and watched all the previous seasons. I hate that we have to let him go but I'm sure Capaldi will be great. He was the best. He was the youngest to play the Doctor and played him as if he were the elder. I loved how he occupied his space and his body language was so amazing. Matt Smith was brilliant.
Tbh I think for Matt, and probably for many of the Doctors, it's a case of "If I don't leave now, i literally will never want to leave. They'd have to pry the Screwdriver from my hands"

Matt Smith is by far my favorite Doctor. He's the one that made me love "Doctor Who" (the show) . He wasn't always given the best scripts to work with, but he had some brilliant moments as the Doctor that I think will forever define the character.

To me, Matt and David have the same issue which is that they left too soon, or I suppose another way to look at it is they left on high. But my personal opinion with them both is their first seasons were abit off and they hadn't quite settled in, and by their respective third seasons they really were the Doctor and then they were gone. I wasn't ready for David when Chris left because Bad wolf/parting of the ways was just so good. And I was nowhere near ready for Matt after the end of time part 1 and 2, but now I miss them both and their eras.
No matter what doctor comes next I will always remember when the doctor was him

i didnt have a favorite hero till eleven. his personality, physicality, humor, cleverness, darkness, affection and energy. nothing is better then that.
That moment in "The Rings of Akhaten" where the Doctor gives that speech of all of the pains he's went through in his thousand-year life has convinced me that Matt Smith could have been even better than Tennant, if only he had better writers. It was just such good acting.

We will never have another Matt Smith... no one is capable... i wake up, and i think to myself, strong, fierce, like David's Doctor, but... Funny, kind, old and young at the same time, wise and brilliant, epic, and insane, just like Matt's Doctor, and above all, hopeful.
I have an infinite respect for Matt, being my first Doctor and also having to take over from David Tennant is no small task, but he managed to pull it off! That takes talent

At first I felt the same why when Peter Capaldi was cast as the 12th Doctor until I found out Peter Capaldi is the only whovian that grew up watching the show in the 60s and he got to play the Doctor
The Doctor gets 12 regenerations, that means 13 Doctors, they officially said a long time ago that the War Doctor and meta crisis 10 version 2 both count as regenerations, that puts Matt Smith's Doctor as number 13, so he needed a 2nd cycle, which he got, so Capaldi is technically the 14th Doctor, but will still be referred to as the 12th, and just so you know I'm only typing this because I saw a couple of threads disputing this.
please can u people just watch the show and not discuss this stupid topic. every time the doctor changes his face its a new doctor we dont count the regeneration then having the same face ur still the same doctor

Well my comment mysteriously disappeared, but by all accounts I don't believe they count as regenerations, and I'm fairly sure it was officially reported as that.
Cryer24597 Technically he didn't regenerate I'm agreeing with you on that, for the whole kept his same face part, but it still counts towards the count of regenerations, based solely on the fact he used up that regenerations energy, hence why he ran out and needed a 2nd cycle.
mattpkc34xx What I also find interesting, The 1st Doctors first human companions where teachers at Coal Hill School, and now at the beginning of a new regeneration cycle, Peter Capaldi's first companions are teachers at Coal Hill school. ( Plus Both doctors second on screen adventures was a dale story ) ... Gotta love Moffat XD
Matt was a fantastic Doctor. I just really liked how he behaved with humans and his personality in general. I can't wait to see Capaldi in action but I will certainly miss Matt as I missed Tenant before

I was 6 when Matt left, I wasn’t into Doctor Who back then but I clearly remember being horrified that he was leaving just because he was DOCTOR WHO, the first one I could remember and I thought the world would fall apart without him. Just proves how powerful his presence was as the Doctor. Now I’m 17 and obsessed with Doctor Who at an ungodly level, annoyed that I’m more than ten years late to the party but I’m glad I’m here now ❤️❤️

It took me until series 6 to finally began warming up to the idea of Matt as the Doctor, but now that his run is over, I have to say he did a fine job in the part.
matt smith made DR who for me, he was the first one who finally got it all. the charisma, the wits, the clever humor, acting was top notch, like he really was the character. loved it

Several months later, I've really got to admit... I started watching with Tennant and Martha Jones was enough to keep me and my mom watching and then Catherine Tate, well, that was cool. But I tuned in specifically to see if the 11th Doctor was worth my hour a week and I was INSTANTLY hooked.
Me: "Mom! MOM!! You've GOTTA watch the new guy!'
Mom: "??"
Me: "Seriously? Go look it up on the internet. I'm busy watching the new guy!'
And that's (seriously) the story of how Matt became MY Doctor (though I'm also LOVING Capaldi's take).

Matt Smith was the one who introduced me to the show and since then I watched every episode with him and also checked out older ones which lead to the point where I really started to like the show. Matt smith was my first Doctor when i stumbled upon the series maybe his 2nd-3rd year, and after watching the complete new who and plenty of classic who+ movie, I'd still have to say Matt Smith is my all time favorite doctor! His youth, his charisma, a perfect way to end that life cycle and thrust it into the new!
