As a new homeowner who knew absolutely nothing about lawn care , I’ve learned a lot from your channel and my grass is showing the results 👍🏻👍🏻 I’m in central Texas and had to adjust for our warmer temps but your info is great ...keep up the great work!
Loving the six plus one fence I'm fixated on it. I will definitely be doing one at my house. The neighborhood might not like it but I need my privacy . The no HOA life can be nice. Great video learning more and more everyday and a lot of this stuff translates to lawn Care overall
Here in central Oklahoma, the Extension Service folks must be listening to you, Doc. I just checked their website, and they recommend pre-emergent application starting in January.
Hey @Steve O'Donnell I live in Guthrie, Ok. and went the OSU website. Did not see their application recs. Could you drop a link? (for my future needs). I sure appreciate it.
@how to with doc Hey doc, about a week ago i spread some pre emergent, but we just got some snow here in texas, will that affect my weed protection? By the way i did granular. And should i come back with some liquid pre emergent in a few weeks just to be on the safe side?
I have Bermuda grass and hired unlimited lawn care to do my lawn for 7 years and I was still getting poAnna weeds and different grasses along the edge of the property close to the house. My grass has extensive moss, that’s almost taking over my grass. Every year I put down 3 bags of fast acting lime and still have a lot of moss. I’m really frustrated. I wish I could hire you to have my lawn looking like yours. I would like a golf course lawn. I live in southwest Georgia. Help? I’m frustrated with the moss all over the lawn. I haven’t done an aeration since I had the house built (8yrs), only because I have an invisible fence installed. I put PE down today January 22, I hope it’s not too early. The way it sounds, I should be putting PE down every three months? I purchased the DG, the PCF complete and super juice, I’m hoping to restore my lawn.
I had a ton of weeds last year. Poaanna was killing me last year. I hit it with Pre E in Sept and again in Nov and I am looking good at the moment. I am not seeing any winter weeds at all right now. I guess I will hit it again in Late Feb.
Hello Doc I had my yard turn over and planted Bermuda seeds from The Big Box store the front of my yard is all weeds but I have a section that it grow really well this was done in June last year I live in Atlanta Georgia should I use a pre-emergent now
I am moving into a new to us house in North Georgia actually in the next couple of weeks. Is there a guide or suggestion on how & where best to start with caring for the lawn? There does not appear to be many weeds currently but it's not green yet either.
I'm in East Texas with rural acreage, I have plenty of all types weeds. My pet peeve is Bahiagrass. Should I consider a pre-emergant, or treat with MSM and a fertilizer. To tell the truth a few weeds don't bother me but I have less tolerance of bahiagrass. It was a costal bermuda hay field 10 years ago and no treatment since then. High sand content, mower blade lift fins are eroded within one mowing season. Any suggestions on how to improve the yard ( not looking for a lawn) ? Thank you.
I have tifgreen 3 Bermuda in SoCal. I put pre-emergent down in October and January. I have almost zero weeds or crab grass. A few sprigs of Poa Anna and that’s it.
Doc im in north carolina...when should I apply pre-emergent...new sod was placed down april 2020...im starting to see look weeds mainly along the boarders of the lawn where the stone or concrete meets...suggestions?
Doc, Question. I live in Arizona at an elevation of 4,500 ft. I had Bermuda sod laid in Oct 2020. it is starting to warm up in AZ . I understand not to use pre-emergent. I am getting a lot of weeds and dandelions and crabgrass. I am thinking I will spray the weeds, than scalp it and and add fertilizer. If you can let me know, that I am doing the right thing. Thanks for you videos they are amazing.
Yes, you can spray the weeds... leave for a week... then do your scalp. Get a soil test and then put down light PGF Complete every 3 weeks for a while. Better to often and light.
I start the year with Resolute, wait about 3-4 weeks and do a heavy water app with Specticle. After full green up I use a granular with Barricade. Pretty much takes care of the herbicide apps for the year other than some spot treatments. I like the green grass, but I still hate the heat.
Hi, why would you decide to not put down pre-emergent in the back? Not having weeds last year is no guarantee for this year... Also, may I ask your thoughts on root-curl from new and spreading grass trying to root in pre-emergent treated areas and hitting that t treated layer? Great channel! Thanks!
Need advice... It's early Feb in Fort Worth and temps have been in the 60's pretty regularly already. I want to do preemergent this weekend but the 10 day for cast shows this entire next week to be cold with a hard freeze over a couple days. Should I hold off until after the freeze? This puts my treatment around 2/21.
So biggest question I have is do you remove the leaves from your lawn or leave them over the winter? I live on the border of South Carolina and Georgia. Thanks for the advice
I've got some bare spots I'm trying to get the bermuda to spread to and take over. Will per-emergent prevent the roots from spreading to these bare spots?
Nice job with beach house. Two items: a) I had seen one of your recent videos describing winter weed care using the sprayers. I purchased the products you had listed (pre-emergent, Dithiopyr 40 WSB, 2,4-D Amine, super juice, Humichar (which is down already) and sprayers. I went back to rewatch the video and I can not find it. Could you please point me to the video? Please. b) I had the lawn newly installed (sod) last winter. Had some issues with lawn (learning curve for me before finding your videos) and have one section that is what I would describe as weak and does not appear fully recovered. There is Bermuda grass there but gaps where the soil is visible. Can I spray this area with the liquid weed chemicals? Can I put preemergent down on this area or let it continue to recover and worry about the preemergent in this area in the fall? I am located in North Carolina by water. Thanks and continued good luck with the beach house! Tom
I’m in piedmont of NC. I’ll be putting out my Preemergent in 2-3 weeks, by Feb 15 very latest. Can I come behind that in 2 more weeks with organic fertilizer?
@@HowTowithDoc Thank you for the response. I was wondering in regard to the “barrier” of preemergent, will the organic be ok to lay on top of it awaiting warm weather. Thanks Doc.
Hey Doc, If my sod was put down in Mid/late august, and had 1.5mos of good growing 90’s and 80’s, and month of 80’s and 70’s in 2020, should I put down any PE / spray? Local extension office says “while we typically say 3/1/21 for PE, we are recommending two weeks earlier due to recent historic warm springs.” So I was thinking a coat of barricade early like now, so it’s effects are gone by April. New sod does have some poa-annua, and spurge from last fall still green.
Hey Doc, or whoever wants to answer this, I have a large yard and couldn’t afford to put Bermuda on all of it last year so part of my yard is beautiful Bermuda and the other is still red dirt. I want to plant a grass this year on the dirt part because it may be a few years before I can get more Bermuda. What kind of grass would he good to plant? Thanks.
Hi Doc, Thank you!!, I had new sod installed in July 2020, I skipped PE in fall, do you suggest I skip the spring PE as well or it will be ok to put it down in Late Feb early March, I am in south Louisiana. Thank you
Hi Doc. I’m looking to purchase a new Mclane 25” this year. I am building a new house on two acres (in Fort Worth, TX), and am planning on maintaining bermuda grass in about 30k sq ft of that acreage. Over seeding is sometimes a catch phrase, and isn't always the best answer for warm season turf grasses. If you've got Bermuda, focus on strengthening what you have instead of over seeding. Tons of great videos here will show you how to do just that! Particularly his across the street neighbor -- he renovated an old bermuda lawn that had been almost completely overtaken by weeds.
