Squirrel, here is a tip, when doing massive job like clicking on all bus lines and stuff, press CTRL and select multiple lanes at once, and then when you change maintanance or something it will apply to lines selected. and BAM you done. I hope u see this and it makes your gaming even more enjoyable. =)
I just downloaded TRANSPORT FEVER 2 and started my first ever map exactly as in this series. I did start at 1850 and on medium (to give me more time to learn), and am not following this 100%, but this series has to be the BEST explanation of ANY sim game EVER!!!! Thanks so much for this. This is now my favourite game.....and I have only just moved into the 20th century (1901 right now...).
I feel like there should be a bigger penalty for removing so many roads in a city like Squirrel did. Also flattening large pieces of land to let cities expand feels like it takes some of the challenge out of it and makes it look too artificial.
It also shouldn't be a problem to bring bus routes on smaller roads (that go up a hill) and not necessarily kill those small roads for bigger ones. It happens pretty much everywhere and works fine.
My Bus lanes always overlap, so that the Sims don't have to ride all the way back to the hub to switch Bus but instead can just ride for 1 or two station and jump on to the right loop. The largest of my Cities has absolutely no private Transport anymore; it's all Bus.
Instead of having routes start/end at the hub, you should carry them through. That’ll mean you’ll have half the number of routes and should lower the amount of deadheading that you’ll have. The only issue you might have is demand is asymmetric either side of the hub. But then you could have a route that parallels the busy side and starts at the hub. You shouldn’t use loops for bus routes. You alluded to why they aren’t good at the start of the video. You have twice as many bus stops, twice as many buses as you need to keep frequency low as this is factored in when cims decide on their route and you don’t get much in the way of additional coverage. It might also be a good idea to run bus routes along roads where there are high car usage as this indicates they are high demand routes.
I appreciate the in depth explanation of the thinking behind the bus setup, but I do think there's inefficiencies here. For example, how does one from the NE area go to the NW commerical area? They'd have to go to "the green" and loop all the way back. If the purple and green circuits overlapped, people from the NE side can easily get over to the NW side. The "core shuttle" could also form a loop on the south side of downtwon and bypassing it, so as to separate two passenger demands: "The Green downtown" and "The Green train station". The route would look like this (clockwise from The Green): The Green > Train Station > Downtown > The Green and its reverse. Passengers at the south side would also benefit if some could do on-the-street transfers instead of all going to "the green" if they're heading downtown. They'd only need to do so if they head up to the north side. This will relieve congestion at "the green".
Thanks for keeping this series up. I tend to get bored with my maps once they get to the point where money doesn't matter anymore. I really should aim for perfection, supplying all cities with the products they need and providing public transport to everyone.
I use trams when cities are too close and I organise my bus and trams networks as a unique system. You can do that between Romsey and Leigh. I also attempt in my games to have multiple route between cities. You can have some intercity bus/trams route with train. I think your multiple hub system can be applied as a inter regional system between cities. Finally I see if you can unlock land for further expansion for some cities like Mitcheldean because this city are blocked by the lake and your railway. You can have some part sunken or elevated. If you want to keep some big traffic between cites you can do some highway and bypass system if the traffic is only passing.
I've done a similar nice shuttle bus from mablethorpe to thatchem and it significantly reduced the car congestion. Train didn't get affected much by it.
Those Clockwise/Anti-clockwise lines reminds me of high school. We had a bus line like that in my home town, and I would sometimes on accident get on the wrong one, and it was the difference between having a 10 minute vs. 40 minute ride to school/home.
Crazy add Logs idea, but only for this part of the late game where money isn’t as important. Put logs on a boat, then get it close to the Tools factory, and send the logs in the opposite direction of the planks on the same train.
I really enjoyed this ep. would love to see next ones you fixing a couple of cities, but not just including the buses but also de expansion of the truck deliveries through those cities if possible. anyway keep it up, very enjoyable series.
deletes 15% of the town.. ya, how to get more people into your public transport system? just flatten the parts of town where ppl use their car, that will teach them xD
Is it possible to create an underground or overground public transport route so it doesn't have to deal with private and commercial vehicles? An underground would allow for more direct links too. I don't know if the game allows it though.
there is a mod that allows for underground train stations but base game there isn't. as for overground that would be intersting since theres now a mod that can give you the ability to place a road or rail anywhere.
It is possible, but you're going to have to make on & off ramps to stations. That might be ok for trains, but it's a massive loss of range for buses & trams. It takes 4 ticks to make a bridge, 5 to dig a tunnel. I highly recommend spiraling the on & off ramps to take as little space as possible. It's better to just turn the roads you want to go down into bus only medium country roads. It will still retain all the buildings built on it, just make sure it's owned by you so the city doesn't turn the road back.
Im loving it! Still waiting for whenever the next ep comes out. Watching it in my morning with a cup of coffee and its just such a good start of the day. Thank you Squirrel
You really don't need two lines for each clockwise and anticlockwise route, you can use one line going both ways and put more buses on it, the people are smart enough to take the clockwise or anticlockwise bus to get to their destination quicker.
The section you said wasn't connected, and then added a road....at the south end, you could put a road that goes across the tunnel entrance so there would be a south end connection point as well....
Sorry but I can't watch you landscaping every single inconvenience. That should be part of the challenge to work with the terrain, not to flatten everything so it works better! It actually makes the cities look way worse, especially what you done at maplethorpe. But that is my opinion, if you like it that way, keep going. I will just watch the episodes where the landscaping is minimized then.
I agree with this one. Even though I've never played this game, part of challenge seems to be working with tools you got. If city has massive hills, work around or through them instead of flattening them
Can't agree, sorry. The hilly roads look terrible in this game, with that money I would have deleted half the town and flattened it. It's a game, we can all play exactly as we want, that's the beauty of it.
@@sayanama If you want a flat map, you dial down the hilliness. Rwal life doesn't have that feature. Starting with a hilly map and then buldozing is silly, just like calling it "hard mode" then adding a bunch of mods to nerf the challenge.
I personally use an out of town express with less stops on outskirts of town a city center that links at one stop onto the express alot less hassle than your method but mabey possibly different
Don’t get to comment very often cause I usually watch on my Xbox so no comment function but glad this series is still going on it’s one of my favorites to watch right now! Keep up the good work!!
I was playing today and my eye caught the little counter at the bottom for "pax moved" and "cargo moved". I wonder if it would even be possible to move more pax in a full playthrough than cargo, or even do a pax only run somehow.
Question: if your existing buses are in a “Very Bad” condition and you set them a higher maintenance, will they change to a better condition, or will this only apply to new buses?
Hey squirrel, I am a you tuber my self and in my free time I love Microsoft flight sim. Can I request that you play more flight sims on your channel. Have a good day.
Downgrade the city-connection road back down again now that you're not using it to encourage more pax onto your trains! I do circuit bus lines in opposing directions and spaced out via the stop coverages as neatly as possible without too much overlap - then use a tram line from the train station and around the inner-city-middle in a neat but direct loop between the two - I see now I could run a line or two extra in the other cardinal directions and maybe try my hand at a bus hub too to eradicate private trafic completely maybe..
Definitely not. On my map some cars are so stuck they eventually despawn. Its all about route length and speed of vehicle/maximum speed on the road. It is unfortunate. Also as you can see when setting up route game picks the shortest not fastest route.
Just caught your series. Great content. Problem. I cannot upgrade roads. That option is not on my menu. Do you know why? Did it change since this was released?
It would be more interesting if you tried to work with the topography to an extent. Bulldozing a town and flattening the land to suit your plans may be more efficient but makes for a less interesting video in my opinion.
Hi, you don't know me. i'm a solo indie developer using unreal engine. I want to set my intro, of my horror game, going from a guy coming out of his house in the suburbs, and driving to work in the city. Do you think how your city is setup here at the start of the video, is how it should look? or should I be looking more at city skylines for inspiration?
why oh why dont the reverse button reverse the route of individual trucks/busses? ok then ADD NEW LINE... [town name here PAX] inner city1, [town name here PAX] inner city1R, [town name here PAX] circle loop1, [town name here PAX] circle loop1R, [town name here PAX] cargo1, [town name here PAX] cargo2...whys it gotta be this way game? Prehaps video title should be "Watch me destroy half a city and flatten it, while repeating my self until people get so bored they watch something else." I was enjoying this series until this episode.

Yeah you gotta think the actual cost of removing an entire hill would be insane.
Earthworks aren't that bad opposed to changing street layouts after they've been established and built around.

Have you ever considered adding multiple truck stops for city deliveries?
Exactly my point. Instead of trying to constantly optimize one drop he could do several.
Don't forget stops on the way back on NW-C (chester road) 42:55

Thanks a lot! This was very useful. I think it should be a stand alone guide or tutorial as well as a part of this series.
Have you put the HQ down? Would be interested to see what your score is now.
It tops at lvl 99, which he surely has reached a long time ago.

Trams i normally see them as busses that can hold alot.
speed doesn't matter for cities since roads are limited to 60 kph.

This series is very entertaining! Thanks mate
shame to see so much flattening of land! would have been much cooler to keep it as part of the city - San Fran-Mablethorpe !! But still a great ep

You’ve re-defined imminent domain haha.
I gotta keep this central hub with spokes idea in mind for when I play this game and the cities grow huge like yours.
Gonna have to beef up those passenger trains to make them efficient as possible so the people on your updated bus lines will want to use them.
