      Who cares about the thumbnail? The quality of the videos is still there. I honestly don't even look at the thumbnails, if the title of the video interests me I'll watch it. If the new thumbnails get them more views and more money and there is no drop in video quality I say more power to them.

      They won't... Ryzen almost showed no improvement to the 6900K. Bet the 7900K that's coming is already better. If they don't have dramatically lower prices than Intel they have absolutely failed. At least for me. Lots of cores, very bad single cpu score... suck at gaming

    • @ashleytakesaction2537
      @ashleytakesaction2537 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ryzen doesnt have to compete with a 6900k, even tho they are similar design, price point makes the 6900k irrelevant to most consumers. Ryzen has no competition in the 8c/16t category basically, whether it will be successful against base i5 and i7 will be the deciding point for it. 6900k is nice but id buy 2 xeons for 8c/16t at half the price instead lol... but then there is ryzen now.

    • @ashleytakesaction2537
      @ashleytakesaction2537 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      an also 6900k was ran against a similarly clocked ryzen. Ive read ryzen will be released at 4ghz on all cores, so add 800mhz to previous benchmarks comparisons ive seen where they are nearly equal... to be honest im an amd fan, but not so hard core as to dismiss reality.. im currently running skylake lol

    • @alstef09
      @alstef09 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's not the point Raidon. If the Ryzen chip can compete with intel's EE chips in terms of price, that would shift the market. Competition will be back.

    Pfft, Netflix 4K is such a joke right now. Needing a 4K monitor, extremely fast and reliable internet service, and a PC built with the latest Intel CPU that runs Windows 10, and even then it will only work through the Edge browser? *Random Thought* - Kaby Lake fills the need that Dell and Acer and others have to sell something "new" each year, even if it isn't new... It is Haswell Refresh all over again, which is fine, but that is all it is...
    The harsh truth is that an i7-2600K overclocked to 4.5GHz still holds up well 5+ years later...

    • @richardhufferson8511

      Well more than 4 cores helps... But Kaby Lake doesn't have more than 4 cores... :)
      Then the question becomes, does the average person, even in 2016, actually need more than a 5 year old Sandy Bridge? Not want, "need"...

    • @TechDeals
      @TechDeals 7 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      If AMD releases a CPU with the performance of i7-6800K and does it at the $250 price point, they'll sell a ton of them I think... 6 cores, 12 threads, for $150 less than Intel, that'll be a hit...

    • @JohnnyJoannou
      @JohnnyJoannou 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've got a 2600k, it's overclocked to 4.1Ghz (I think, windows says 3.4 and 4.1)
      Still pretty good, I notice it chugs a bit on some things.
      Wonder if the upgrade to the latest stuff from a 2011 era build would result in a huge improvement?

      There is right now no point for actual CPU improvement as most programs are still 32-bit based. Besides a CPU barley reaches 60% usage, let alone 100% at normal usage (Unless the program is terribly written). Anyway the point is that CPU nowadays are idling most of the time.

      @BattousaiHBr 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      only if they're crazy.
      as a matter of fact intel has a significantly bigger size of the GPU market than even nvidia.
      not only that, you can't exactly choose how your CPU will turn out during fab. a lot of sectors have damage on the die during manufacture and to not waste the whole chip they deactivate bad sectors and sell it as an undercut chip.
      if you want a full CPU die then there's the LGA 2011 chips.

      There is some rare use cases so they leave it there, if you dont have money now for an entire system you can buy almost everything now and let a graphics card for later, if your graphics card dies your pc can still work until you get another, etc. Those may be very edge cases but they exist.

      :)) AMD should retire, Ryzen bulshit is just i7 6800k (an entire year ahead of AMD) and Intel still has i7 6900k which is way better.
      On the road that AMD heads to ... Intel comes back already tired.
      AMD is nearly dead, no good processors, no good video cards ... this is the end of AMD in maximum 2 years.
      IBM will lead the future competing with Intel.

    • @fireonawire
      @fireonawire 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      XRaYdeR
      If that is true then prepare for even more price increases from Intel with even less IPC gains.
      Skylake desktop is the same performance wise compared to Kaby Lake so if AMD can release a Skylake performing chip for less money they'll be onto a winner.
      Also if AMD retire then the government will have to step in as there would be a monopoly.
      How would IBM compete with Intel?
      They have no consumer level processors or platforms on the market. Are you suggesting they start from scratch or bring out/develop their legacy products?

      I don't think that the government will apply that in all countries.

      @Zigazagoon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you've done any amount of research you'll see that the improvements will be small at best. You can always add more cores and make the processor bigger but with that comes loss of efficiency. In terms of gaming I can see maybe games eventually expanding to using 6 cores (and maybe more), although I don't know for sure if that's the best plan. I hope AMD brings something interesting with Ryzen but like many i'm very doubtful.
      Now what I think AMD will bring is affordability at very similar performance points to recent Intel CPU's. This is what i'm looking forward to. Affordability making powerful CPU's more accessible to everyone. That's what AMD was known for and hope they deliver.

Still, it only needs to hit 4790k single core performance to be completely viable for those who dont mind losing platform specific benefits of the 270.

      @agirlnamedtea9652 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that if this is the best thing intel can do for a successor to the 6700k, im incredibly disappointed, i hope that AMD will focus on single threaded performance as well as their previous focus on multi cores, as it would put AMD back in the market and really put intel in their place. And remember, everyone loves an underdog.

    • @jrsmithunited
      @jrsmithunited 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No chance in hell of 7700k having a 12% performance boost in anything, compared to 6700k. In any workload. The difference between 6700k and 7700k at the same clocks is 0. Absolute zilch. Every single benchmark has shown it. LTT benchmarks are pretty weak and dont really say much. Gamersnexus ones are much better, but even pre-release the benchmarks were saying the same thing. Very few workloads actually keep the CPU fully engaged. Pretty much only things which require FPU and can mostly use the cache without waiting too much for ram transfers. So unless you have one of those workloads, the difference between 4790K and 7700K is about 10-15%, at the same clocks.

    • @jrsmithunited

      6St6Jimmy6 its called a gaming benchmark because retards think that in games the cpu will matter (when not in a situation where the cpu isnt enough beforehand). yes a celeron will bottleneck in gta5 but gta5 requires more power than that (around 600 in conebench r15).
      inless im mistaken and youre the 1 person in the world that wants a game to be cpu limited and have your gpu sitting there at 60% load. play games on 1024x768 on a gtx989 why not youll get great framerates.

    • @Helmic
      @Helmic 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Even an AMD FX-8350 overclocked to 4.9 GHz will bottleneck a GTX 1070's performance. In games that are actually bottlenecked by the CPU, such as RTS games, sims, Dorflikes such as Dwarf Fortress, or really anything that has sufficiently complicated game logic or AI instead of just really pretty graphics, you do benefit from a good CPU. Deus Ex is not such a game - the ARMA series, multiplayer games with lots of simultaneous players making complicated animations and movements in realtime, those would be good benchmarks.

    • @tomstech4390
      @tomstech4390 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Helmic have you even touched a gtx1070? i benchmarked sli1070's at launch in a 8320rig (gf's) and a 5820k rig (clients) and they both performed great but dont be mistaken into thinking a 5820k gets any more performance in sims than the amd system did.
      yesterday i had to sort the clients pc out becuase his gpus werent being fully used....he was running gta5 on ultra with 4xmsaa on 1440p on the 5820k system and still only at 40% usage, I had to use 1.75x DSR to get full load on them and run them at 2520x4480 or something like that and still averaged over 100fps. he will be going to 4k (surround but only gaming on the center monitor) when he moves into his new place.
      graphical scenes are limited by gpu, non graphical scenes done care what cpu you have, badly made games (or simple ones) dont care what hardware you have at all.

    • @Helmic
      @Helmic 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I... what? Do you play any sim games? Any games with sufficiently complicated animations with large servers that need to be constantly updated, such as the ARMA series? The FX-8350, even when overclocked, doesn't compare to most recent Intel i5's, even in games like Overwatch it'll bottleneck performance to around 150 FPS with an FX-8350, it'll bottleneck GPU benchmarks because that thing is ancient and AMD CPU's are notoriously far behind Intel CPU's, especially with modern games which will often make use of CPU's. Add to this that not all "graphical" effects are actually handled by the GPU (such as animations) and it makes sense that you do actually need a CPU that can keep up with your GPU.
      I mean, no shit the 5820k wasn't the bottleneck, it's a $400 CPU, it's more expensive than a GTX 1070. It's ridiculously overkill. Turning up graphical settings won't stress the CPU much unless you're using the integrated graphics, few games will let you reduce animations or physics or AI pathing. What stresses the CPU is stuff like number of players in game, physics calculations not handled by the proprietary PhysX, AI units, every-fucking-thing in Dwarf Fortress, system simulations. If you're playing a game like Stonehearth, Maia, Prison Architect modded, even Minecraft, these games can have complicated interconnected systems and your CPU is the bottleneck on how much you're allowed to do in these games.
      The actual advice here is that most modern Intel CPU's have had incremental at best improvements ever since Sandy Bridge and that if you already have an i5 from a previous build then you're very unlikely to gain any noticable improvements from buying a new motherboard, new RAM, and a new i7. For most modern games, if you're buying a GTX 1070 you're going to need some semi-recentish i5 to go along with it to prevent bottlenecking.
      OP's criticism is that the benchmarks aren't even games that are known to stress the CPU; no shit your CPU makes no difference in a game that's largely indoors with limited AI, Mankind Divided can run on a toaster (and that's good). In Overwatch, it would matter for high refresh displays (though an i7 with hyperthreading is still going to be overkill for that), for "milsim-lite" games it would make them playable, in Dwarf Fortress you could have a massive map with complicated pathing without worrying about FPS death. The distinction needs to be made in order for the benchmarks to be useful and to give viewers an idea of whether they actually do want a powerful CPU; these are niche genres and if you're not going to be playing Overwatch on a 220 Hz monitor or doing incredibly silly shit in Factorio or doing any of this while simultaneously streaming in decent quality then you don't need a high-end CPU.
      For a GTX 1070, however, I would not recommend an AMD CPU even overclocked, not until Zen comes out and hopefully performs well enough to be an appropriate choice to complement enthusiast GPUs. For less powerful GPU's, an FX-8350 is an affordable alternative that you'll still need to seriously reconsider as the socket won't be support any future upgrades and you'll have to buy a new motherboard, new RAM, and a new CPU when it comes time to upgrade your GPU. Considering how close we are to Zen being released and AMD likely having a budget-priced CPU soon, I would hold off for a couple months before making any purchases if you want to go AMD. AMD does have the very nice benefit of not changing sockets constantly so if you do go with Zen it's likely that by the time you upgrade the CPU you can continue using your old motherboard. Intel CPU prices will also likely drop shortly after Zen's release assuming AMD put up something worthwhile.

    • @tomstech4390
      @tomstech4390 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Theo's Thoughts wants their games to not use thier graphics card? just because you lower settings doesnt mean a game becomes cpu limited either yiu can be api or game engine limited way before that. i dont care if you have a 7ghz 6700k youre not getting 200fps in world of tanks for instance. this low resolution bullshit testing of cpus came from when we would play quake3 at 300fps on a CRT monitor (im 28 but even i was testing back then circa 1999) and multicore simply didnt exist so you would look at your cpu usage and notice it went up as the graphics wasnt used as much.
      but lower res gaming today DOES NOT show cpu performance. you can get a 5ghz pentium dual core g3258 and it will cream a stock 6950x in a game like world of tanks or borderlands or whatever if the gpu limit is temoved. it doesnt make it a more powerful chip it just shows that in a situation IF the single core performance becomes the limit that its higher performing. but thats what conebench and cpu benchmarks are for.
      the intelligence of the world today is plummeting i think darwins given up taking names.

    • @mydogbuddy07
      @mydogbuddy07 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Toms Tech
      OP's comment still stands though, although some of what you say is true, it still doesn't make sense to do a cpu benchmark where the GPU is the bottleneck.
      Sure something like the API or game engine could become the bottleneck after that, but it's better to let that happen and see the results than to get results that just show a GPU bottleneck. Of course using a synthetic benchmark would allow you to get around problems related to the game and would be helpful for comparisons, but people also want to see what kind of FPS a CPU will get in a game when the GPU is not the bottleneck and unfortunately people too often use a resolution that is too high for the GPU to handle without bottlenecking when the CPU is supposed to be the part being tested, not the GPU.

    • @themanwiththeplan1401
      @themanwiththeplan1401 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      he's comparing the cpu's so graphic cards isn't supposed to matter.

    • @tomstech4390
      @tomstech4390 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mydogbuddy007 "unfortunately people too often use a resolution that is too high for the GPU to handle" on the contrary, most poepl overspend on a gpu thats why so many people run 970's and r9 290s etc for 1080p.
      "people also want to see what kind of FPS a CPU will get in a game when the GPU is not the bottleneck"
      running a test involving the gpu but not using it doesnt indicate anything about a cpu, thats like doing a drag race of lambo vs ferrrari with a full boot and full petrol tank "that'll tell you which is the most powerful" completely ignoring the effects it will have on traction suspension setup not to mention differences into boot space and tank volume.
      i had to sort out a clients pc yesterday because he wasnt getting the performance out of his sli 1070's that he wanted, hes running gta5 at 1080p (ultra but still) and sad hes not getting 200fps and the game maxes out around 100-140fps no matter what you do with a 4.2ghz 5820k (low speed but prime 95 stable for 48 hours with minimal effort), and his gpu's were sat there at 40% usage.
      is that therefore a good cpu test? is the game going to perform better if he buys a 5ghz 6700k or 4.2 ghz 6950x? nope. its a game limit and its true for pretty much any game, battlefield typically has a 200fps cap and tombraider 2013 you can get 500fps on :P
      but testing games on low resolutions in a hopes to test cpu performance is stupid and so is anyone who does it anymore it was useful back when was had winXP and everything was single core and CRT and we had quake 3 arena at 300fps but meaningless today, unfortunately now retards are going to believe its useful now that LMG is propogating it much like how IPC (on its own regardless of instruction sets and clock speeds) was propogated as being meaningful in some way.

    Is obtaining an higher frequency rate maintaining the same TDP an improvement made by Kaby Lake ?
    Another thing is that prices for Kaby Lake are lower that the ones for Skylake... For example, here in Italy, on Amazon, seems that the price of skylake (both "normal" and K) and Kaby Lake (again, both "normal" and k) is the same.
    But if the Kaby Lake 7700 (not k) is compared to Ryzen 7, we see that there is no big difference in terms of prices and benchmark...and Ryzen seems to be a little more power efficient while Kaby Lake have more motherboards to choose on. So, it becomes really difficult to choose between them.
