Joe is the Pavarotti of trombone virtuosi, i.e., he's just better than any of the rest. Fantastic Polka is supposed to be one of Pryor's toughest pieces, and Joe knocks it off with ease...he even toys with it with tasteful trills and high notes!!
This man is a master. I know I've said it a thousand times, but he had the best delivery of any trombonist alive. I'll stand by that statement. What qualifies me to make such a statement? Not much, really. I played all the way through grade school, college and now in a community band in Lake Charles, LA. I have a degree in biology and not music, but I've had enough music exposure and experience to make such a statement. He's the greatest I've ever heard.
in my personal opinion he is the best American Trombonist of all time. There are different styles depending on witch country you are from. Vibrato is a great example European trombonists like Christian Lindberg use vibrato a lot while American Trombonists use it conservatively.
I was a boner several decades ago. High school and 2 yrs college. I still remember the first time I heard him, Blue Bells of Scotland. I could not believe what I was hearing. The speed and accuracy, especially how lightning fast he could adjust his embouchure between the very low notes and the very high ones. And making it all seem effortless, that was magic.
I'm a beginning trombone player. I love this this piece very much. I have just found out about this incredible man due to a project for band class. I have to listen to him playing three songs and write a review on it. I now aspire to sound half as good as him.
lo admiro mucho maestro Alessi es mi inspiración a la hora de estudiar y tocar. Gracias por compartirnos su pasión y ni se diga de el sonido único que usted tiene espero poder conocerlo algún día, muchas bendiciones
Yeah old Joe pretty much gets by ok on trombone. And a funny guy as well. Just a regular guy…that is likely the most gifted slush pump picker on the planet! What chops.
Miss Natalie, I appreciate your comments, And I'm familiar with Mr. Lewis, and agree. I never said or inferred he was less than a great player. But his approach is a bit smeary. And I would not have the same problems. Perhaps different, but not that one. There are many players out there that are much cleaner, and in my opinion, much more musical.
Stephanie Curry air varie just uses the intro from fantastic polka. after the big cadenza it starts a different theme and variations, instead of the original polka melody
all the "theme and variations" songs are all very similar because of the time period. Composers were not wild about trying new things so they all don't stray much from the key signature and are very repetitive. As a consequence they all sound very similar.
How would we know if he is really playing this musical composition, just flashing his images are not enough to convince me that he is the trombone player. Fake...
He may be a genius, but you are not. Don't get me wrong, this is played very beautifully and has incredible sound quality. But please learn to spell more accurately.
WOW What a performance… he is an incredible talent that is a fact. His range, tone, articulation, etc… are just so pure. Bravo Mr. Alessi Bravo !

Playing all those noted with a great sound
I love the ring after every note Alessi plays because of his impeccable intonation and the great venues he plays in. Amazing as always!!!!!!!!
..and it was such an honor to meet Mr. Alessi in November of 2016. His first words to me, after shaking his hand was, Merry Christmas.

Dale Andrews, you don't need to be a genius to know what good music is.
could not agree any more he is amazing!!!!!
still the best sounding and most technically versatile trombonist of all time...
Incredible considering all the talent nowadays. He’s still at the top in my opinion

Spend a lot of time on long tones and slow slurs. A lot. A lot.
so how do you sound now??
this song sounds really fun to play and all, but one look at the sheet music is enough to fuel my nightmares for a while
Che gran trombonista. Impeccabile.
Hai proprio ragione ☺
Dieser schöne Ton, diese Technik - einfach genial!
2 dislikes second one 10/10 a clarinet
I played this junior year of high school and I will say that this version is far superior to what I did.
Bryce Spencer to be fair he is one of the best trombonists in America, we should all aspire to reach his technical prowess

Frustrated trombone players only criticize if you can play better than Mr Joseph Alessi!

What is the difference between this piece and Air Varie?
Stephanie Curry air varie just uses the intro from fantastic polka. after the big cadenza it starts a different theme and variations, instead of the original polka melody
Gabriel Bustos okay thank you. So air varie is based on polka?
all the "theme and variations" songs are all very similar because of the time period. Composers were not wild about trying new things so they all don't stray much from the key signature and are very repetitive. As a consequence they all sound very similar.
wow that high c has a SPARKLE in it, right?
Lmao more like high f
Pop musicians have 0 talent compared to Mr. Alessi...i mean...you can't compare them with Mr. Alessi
Til now, 13 dislikes... 13 trumpet players with their small mouthpieces.
So is this air varie?
No
+1
Miss Nata
I do not understand you.
You spelled genius incorrectly which is humorous, don't worry about it.
How would we know if he is really playing this musical composition, just flashing his images are not enough to convince me that he is the trombone player. Fake...
Ben Gundran not trying to be a hater but if you knew anything about him you would know he’s a master of his art. There is a live video of him playing.
Ropartz
A trained musician can recognize someone's sound by ear...
It’s obviously Alessi
Bob Mchysney or Branimir Slokar are better i think
Stay off the Weeeeeeeeed.

Good trombone playing, wrong musical style
Smeary. Stiff. Other than that, fine.
You're dumb
Ha! I play!
Jon Blondell You have no idea what you're talking about.
Sorry, but a lot if real players feel the same.
Jon Blondell Obvious troll is obvious
