    A quick tip on cleaning, I spray cleaner on the inside of lens and rinse out with warm water and blow dry w/ compressed air. Especially on reverse lens where you see the dirt on inside. Instead of clear coat I use silicone glaze (polish) to finish, which forms an ultra thin barrier to elements.

    A tip from Pittsburgh, PA .....
    For severe oxidation and scratches, rub out with Iron City Beer.
    It will dissolve anything!

    If you're doing the entire vehicle, including plastic headlights, you may want to invest in a rattle can of two part clear coat. It's comparable to the clear coat that's originally on the vehicle. Without clear coat, the plastic lenses will yellow and haze from UV and ozone in a year or two. With a single part clear coat, you'll get another year or two of shine, but with a couple of coats of two part (2K) clear coat, the shine will last 10+ years. A stem is inserted into the bottom of the can to break an inner seal, you shake the can to mix the two parts and you have 30 minutes to spray before it hardens in the can. If you can't remove the plastic lenses, thoroughly mask the vehicle to prevent over spray.

    If you start with 0000 steel wool first and then 1000 grip wet/dry sandpaper, graduate to 1500 and eventually 2000 grit, you'll have a much easier time sanding and a better looking finished project.
    Next step: Meguiar's M21032 Mirror Glaze Ultra Pro Finishing Polish will take out those remaining scratches that were still visible.
    Nothing polishes as good as foam. Get the foam attachment for your drill and speed up the buffing process with a better result.

    What about cracks? I have a 1980 Camaro That I’m restoring and need to fishing the tail lights. They have small cracks all over them. I’m guessing I can’t fix it but you never know

    • @EKAutoTech
      @EKAutoTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, not sure if those can be fixed. But they made a ton of those old camaros. Best option is to find on ebay, facebook marketplace or a junk yard a used set that needs restoration but isnt cracked. I would think you could find an old faded set for like 20 bucks at a junk yard or online

      Its a 3m mid abrasive polish. You can you any type of polish to make it look good. Just takes a buffer or a ton of elbow grease to get them looking really nice

    Why not clear coat spray after wet sanding

    • @EKAutoTech
      @EKAutoTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You definitely can, but i didnt have any 2k clear on hand at the time. I wouldnt use rattle can clear coats as they wont last as long. Honestly using any kind of clear on headlights wont last due to the constant bombardment of road debris. For tail lights like these, i would clear them. I personally use Matrix brand clear coat
