  • In this video, I polish the tail lights on the VW. I’m removing all of the scratches on the tail lights, to prepare them for when I wrap them and tint them a darker colour. Stay tuned for that video :)

    The first product you used was a compound, not polish. Very different amount of abrasives. Too often people confuse the two.
    Btw, you can use less than half that amount of product and still do the job perfectly. Compounding, polishing and waxing requires little actual product for such a small space and you don't necessarily need to go out and buy a 3" polisher/pad. You can perfectly complete this with a standard 6" or even with your hand using a polishing pad going in overlapping circles. Also, any standard compound, polish and wax will do the job just right.
    Bottom line, you don't need to invest in specialty products, save yourself a bunch of dough.

    I've been looking to get a smaller polisher to get the tighter spots on my vehicles since my MT-300 with 5 inch pads is tough to use in some spots. I'm in college so I don't have the money for a Rupes or something of that level. Would you recommend this polisher for paint too? I don't wanna buy it and it be too weak to really correct anything and have wasted my money.

    Good job. Do you think that if I polish regularly by hand with a mild Meguiards compound, I would not have to use a polisher? In other words, don't let your tail lights go that bad before you have to use a polisher. My 6 month old Challenger has already small scratches on the centre of the tail light. Probably caused by friction of grit and my hand when I open or close the trunk.

  • @bobby6631
    @bobby6631 ปีที่แล้ว

    I understand the process but when this is been done for me before whether it’s sanded or compounded you’re still scratching the surface are you supposed to get it clear coded or it’s just going to come back? It seems to me the grit in the compound took whatever clearcoat that was on it is now off and open do UV damage in a year

    Because it's plastic I don't waste my time using polishing compound for my tail lights (unless they are super scratched, don't know why they would be though) they will just get scratched up again. What I do is use clay bar to remove embedded particles and then either wax or use sealant and tail lights shine like new plus it only takes a minute per light. Clay bars are amazing for smoothing out and removing embedded particles nothing else works as well. You can polish paint til the cows come home and it won't touch that embedded crap but a clay bar pulls it out with little effort. Works the same on these plastic tail lights too.

    This is an old video but I was quoted about $70 a piece at a body shop to have it sanded down and clearcoat it this way it’s protected by the sun. As long as the damage is on the outside like clearcoat peeling and not heat damage from a xenon bulb I’d rather pay Someone that does it every single day.

      You would have to plastic weld it back together from the backside to make it strong again, along with the front so it doesn't crack again. You would then need to fill it, sand it, prime it, paint it, sand it, clear coat it.

      Ps. Someone refered me to the shurhold polishing machine and was wondering if you have ever used one or know the quality of the machine? Is it inferior to the rupes or is it a good enough machine for maintaining 4 vehicles on a regular basis and the occasional customer? Thank you for your help!!

    • @milanmastracci

      Not a problem buddy!! :)
      I just looked into the shurhold polishing machine and it is a dual action polisher, similar to the rupes. The throw of the tool is not that far. If you have the money to spend on a rupes, definitely get one because it will last you years, and it will be able to give you phenomenal results, in much less time than the shurhold.
