Just because I haven't seen anyone explaining the album, here's what halsey said about the concept: "For me, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom is a story about two people who want to be in love so badly they’re willing to change themselves for their love and in doing so they let the real versions of themselves die, so it’s a Romeo and Juliet story. [...] I was in a relationship with someone for a really long time, and I broke up with them, and then I sat down to write this album and realized I didn't know anything about myself. When I'm alone and I'm not in a relationship, who am I? Who am I without the gaze of another person? When I'm getting dressed in the morning, and they're not sitting at the foot of my bed, what clothes do I pick out? ... Who am I when they're not watching me? When they're not judging me? And that's a lot of what this record is about."
The album is set in a futuristic place which is called the Hopeless Fountain Kingdom. This place is a sort of purgatory for people who are too bad for heaven but too good for hell.
The story revolves around two families who are living in the Hopeless Fountain Kingdom: Angelus and Aureum. The Angelus family rules over the kingdom, while the Aureum family lives among the common people. When heir to the throne Solis Angelus falls in love with Luna Aureum, chaos ensues.
There's also a series of connected music videos.The order has been theorized to start with the album trailer and then goes in chronological order as follows: "Strangers", "Now Or Never", "Sorry", "Bad At Love" and lastly "Alone". [HALSEY WIKI]

oh this album is my baby, definitely my favorite because of the story telling and how painfully relatable it is. i’ve wanted to get “hopeless” tattooed since this album came out because of the references to it throughout the album, specifically “i hope hopeless changes over time” in hopeless (my faaaaave) and “perhaps hopeless isn’t a place, nothing but a state of mind” in good mourning. love love love her lyricism and references and how she flipped the romeo and juliet storyline to make it modern!! 🖤

i literally can’t choose which album i like more hfk or manic. but she has literally failed to make a bad album. although bad at love is my favorite halsey song
To me its ways been a taste thing. Lyrically I think bad lands was her best. Best in consistency in sound I think is hfk. I think manic is her best in its story telling. The really tried for it in hfk but to me it fell short.
Manic is my personal favorite, but that’s probably because I’ve always loved more personal songs.
The "Touch" remix during Heaven in Hiding made me laugh so hard I'm not even kidding

There is a live version of 100 Letters, where during the first chorus she does this growl while she sings, and omg its so amazing.

sooo funny story, i filmed half of this video today and stopped in the middle because i wasn't vibing. i appreciated how artistic, unique and cinematic the songs were, but it felt like something i need to listen to on my own. simply didn't have much to say. sad day is a beautiful song though.
