I don't really hate her but there's a lot of songs of hers that I don't like at all so if that can help you answer your questions well Halsey tries a lot of differents things in her songs, she set differents moods depending of what the song is about and even if I can admit that her lyrics are most of the times really fucking awesome like she gots this raw bombtruth kind of thing going for her but a lot of the times I just don't get in her universe. She sings about things that are really private and personnal because it's about her experience. She uses music in a therapeutic way and it makes it really really hard for me to get into it because I don't relate to anything. The lyrics even how awesome and well-written they are don't speak to me, the music don't speak to me, the atmosphere don't speak to me (well sometimes it does) and in a lot of songs I have actually no fucking clues what she's talking about or trying to say because there's like missing data and it makes sense because it's about her and I'm not her so I don't know her life. But I think most of people that hate her or just dislike her is because they can't understand and can't relate. She address the songs to herself not to the people the people that listens to it and it makes it really complicated and it personally pushes me back. Even if I can admit she is a great and complete artist and there's some song that I like (I actually really love Gasoline because she interacts with us by saying "Do you ____ like me?" it puts a lot less of a distance. I don't feel like I listen to her great diary and I can fully dive in the music. I also love Heaven in Hiding because there's also a sort of interaction the "you" can easily be a generalisation of everyone in the world so that's it). Anyway I hope my opinion helped you see why people could dislike her. It depends if the theme she talks about inspire you I guess. She sings a lot about bad relationship, heartbreak, abuse and her bisexuality (well her relationships with women) and none of that concerns me so yeah.
With all of the things that you mentioned that you aren't able to relate to in her music...feel lucky for that. I would love to not be able to relate to the shit she has been through.

I am honestly so in love with this song. Halsey is the type of artist who can create such a beautiful song that takes you back to a past memory. It’s like no matter who you are or whatever you have been through, you can always relate to a Halsey song in some sort of way based on a life experience you have gone through. I feel like that’s what makes her so unique and different from other artist.

I'm a changed Woman after hearing this album. People said she has "changed" with Hopeless Fountain Kingdom. Fuck that, if anything she has become more raw, upfront and serious about her breakups, menatality, and aspect on life. For one she has opened up so many wounds of mine ig: anxiety, incecruities, breakups ect. and no doubt has she opened many more of others. Not only has she opened them but with her moving lyrics has helped me heal them. I know this comment will be forever washed away in a sea of other touching, heartfelt stories but I wanted to speak about mine.
