ALSO, the aesthetic/inspiration for this album is Baz Luhrman’s 90s rendition of Romeo & Juliet “Romeo + Juliet”, and the music videos have nods to the film- with the two households. Aureum and Angelus. Aureum is the badass, dark house - she said “Don’t Play” is the aureum house anthem! - and Angelus is the purer household. Kind of fits her theme of unrequited love, since that’s the whole storyline of R&J!
My faves are 100 Letters, Now or Never, Bad at Love, Good Mourning, Sorry, and Hopeless, but honestly this whole album goes off. Between the aesthetics, the story, the lyrics, and the music, Halsey showed us what she could do when this came out. Now I can’t wait for the reaction to Manic. It’s something else entirely, so vulnerable and cool. And please listen to Nightmare first! It’s not on the album, but it’s a part of the era.
the mystery of "strangers" cleared up: so halsey is big on lgbt+ representation in songs that isnt strictly about the "omg its a girl with a girl!!" because she and Lauren (her feature) both identify as outspoken bisexual women. In the song strangers, Halsey is discerning the difference between a fuck buddy and romantic partner/lover. For example, that first line implies that kissing is too romantic for a fuck buddy because it has relationship-like connotations, so her partner "said that we're not lovers, we're just strangers with the same damn hunger to be touched, to be loved, to feel anything at all." As in, they're both starved for physical connection with another person but just because they can satiate each others needs in that context does not mean they're in love with each other or make them a capital c Couple. The fact that the person Halsey is singing about is another woman is an afterthought-she just happens to be a she. By doing this, Halsey has created an LGBT+ song in which the homosexuality isn't the main focus of the song, because most are. She wanted to just write a song where the main focus/message was the situation she was in.....that just so happened to involve two women.
i hope you check out some of her live performances after the albums, she really takes everything to another level as a performer. and 100 letters live hits differently🥺

Halsey is very versatile. Manic takes another twist into a few other genres as well. Plus, she also writes her own music as well. And she has a unique voice that sound great in studio. She could do just about any style of music if she wanted to.
this album got me through the worst problems with my friends, my toxic relationship and breakup, and the worst mental health i’ve ever had. hfk is my favorite album after reputation (ever) and it’s got a huge place in my heart
I know I’m a little late to the party lol but what I got from 100 Letters and being in a similar situation is her laying on dirty bathroom floors meant they were fighting and to get away from it all she would lock herself in the bathroom to just some peace and quiet. I could be wrong though lol
I cannot WAIT for you to hear manic!!!!! if i may say something, and you'll probably never even see this comment, but the tracks "forever...(is a long time)", "Dominic's interlude" and "I HATE EVERYBODY" are supposed to be listened to back to back, like, they transition into each other so for a change you could consider hearing that trio of songs switchup (similar to how the beat of billie eilish's "ilomilo" creeps in at the very end of "bury a friend," which is right before it; blurring the two songs into one) and pausing the song after that.

Exactly! I said that in the video it's her expressing the fact that these two are both hopeless lovers looking to fill the void by being intimate amongst each other. But also like not taking it too seriously to fully commit to a relationship. That's what it sounded like to me at least
