Btw Thumin, in the video you said you didn’t know how lead poisoning is pronounced. It’s “led” poisoning, not “leed” poisoning. Just so you know ^^ loved the video, it was super interesting and your art is iconic. I mean, it always is, but this one is one of my favorites.
@@Limepopsicle07 thank you for clearing that up for me! Also ur so sweet 😭😭😭 i had trouble matching colors in the drawing but i survived somehow. Thank youu 💖💖
These art mystery videos gives me so much insight on the history of these artists and theres always something new i can learn from watching thes videos which is why i admire this channel.
That's a popular conspiracy that people like to say about Caravaggio being murder, but the records and new evidence says something different. It was disease that killed Caravaggio. He was sick with Sepsis at the time but because he really didn't want to wait to get back to Rome he ignored his own health and left anyway hearing about the pope pardoning him. It was while he was journeying back that he was detained and just happened to miss his boat and he ended up dying before the next one arrived a few days later. His body was buried and rediscovered back in 2018 in the small cemetery in San Sebastiano in Porto Ercole which is how people found out how he died. It was a huge discovery as there were a lot of newspapers who printed articles about. A long with the disease the also unusual amounts of lead in his bones which some think he got from the paints which might explain his eradicate behavior, not that it excuses his actions. He was pretty much as crazy as you've described in your video. Divas of the art world can be really fascinating and Caravaggio was nothing short of a diva himself, but he did pave the way for many other artist with his unique take. Artemisia Gentilischi being one them. Anyway this was a very lovely video. I really enjoyed it as well as the art. Please keep up the good work as it always fun to hear these stories.
Indeed. He is definitely an interesting artist. When I first learned about him in my art history classes in college, I became absolutely fascinated by him. Great work Thumin and thanks for this deep dive!
I think a video on Klimt would be interesting. I love his art, but while we studied him in class, I don't recall much about him. But supposedly there was some weird stuff going on that would be interesting (I think) to watch a video on! Great video! It's important to remember that while we may love and find inspiration from famous artists, they were human, too, and we need to stop putting famous people on pedestals. Lead poisoning makes sense. Loved the video! Thank you for all you do to research and share history :D

The story of what inspired you to become an artist.
Just subscribed to you yesterday and I love your art plus you have a beautiful accent
For some reason there's a Caravaggio painting in Ireland aswell found there - idk how it got there but it's in the national gallery
Watching this while drawing fanart for a game, thanks!
