I can relate. I’m a lesbian and I used to actively avoid certain videos discussing LGBTQ+ topics in case I’d come across offensive replies in the comments. I’d get this really uncomfortable feeling in my stomach. The fact that PoC and LGBTQ+ still have to deal with these insensitive trolls is frustrating.

Yeah it's really stupid. I've seen people draw themselves, their OC's or even other fictional characters dressed as one another plenty of times and there's nothing wrong with that. I get there's a lot of pushback for people taking a character and "fixing" them by just drawing them chunkier or whatever but being mad at someone drawing themselves or another character who is effectively doing cosplay is just stupid. No one seems to give a shit about the number of lighter skinned artists and TH-camrs drawing themselves wearing the Orange Gi from Dragon Ball Z after all.

What’s sad is that it’s probably not even the art being “blackified” that they’re miffed about- it’s that it’s by a black creator. I’m a white artist, and anytime I share art of individuals with darker skin than me, nothing is called out for being “wrong”. I’ve seen plenty of other white artists share art with characters that aren’t white, and they don’t get hate. The racists are simply using the art as a carrier for directing their ignorance towards you. It’s so disgusting and I’m truly sorry that these people are doing this to you and other artists of color. Making art of characters who aren’t white, who are any race and any color, any culture, should be normalized- because it obviously isn’t, when so many people suddenly become conscious of when a portrait isn’t of a white person. You have every damned right to be upset and furious and to call these freaks out for their behavior.

It's very similar to racism in the cosplay community. White weaboos verbally assaulting black people for cosplaying characters that they love, going on about, "so-and-so isn't black! You can't cosplay that character!" When said character, being from an anime, is most likely an Asian character and NO ONE says anything when a white person cosplays the SAME character. Like, if people are only allowed to cosplay their own race, then the majority of the cosplay community should be getting the same response.
It pisses me off that these people try to justify the harassment by saying, "you're being racist against Asian people," when that's not what they care about at all. It's just about excluding black people and it's so gross.

What’s sad is that it’s probably not even the art being “blackified” that they’re miffed about- it’s that it’s by a black creator. I’m a white artist, and anytime I share art of individuals with darker skin than me, nothing is called out for being “wrong”. I’ve seen plenty of other white artists share art with characters that aren’t white, and they don’t get hate. The racists are simply using the art as a carrier for directing their ignorance towards you. It’s so disgusting and I’m truly sorry that these people are doing this to you and other artists of color. Making art of characters who aren’t white, who are any race and any color, any culture, should be normalized- because it obviously isn’t, when so many people suddenly become conscious of when a portrait isn’t of a white person. You have every damned right to be upset and furious and to call these freaks out for their behavior.

Edit to add: I think we should make more darker skinned Asian characters or even blasian characters, more diversity is nice. You get to learn about an interesting culture and you can then put that knowledge into drawing what isn’t fun about that.

I never bothered to follow this advice bc I saw that wall flower types that gave no reaction got bullied anyway. Sure, they got bullied less, but it still didn't stop. Exact same story with me man. I was bullied for 5 years nonstop, I was already on the verge of killing myself, and when I told an adult that I'm being harassed all I get is a "ignore them". No. In reality, I know deep inside they just didn't care about my problems and didn't want to deal with them. This is why I hate school, it gave me depression and made me realize how much people don't care about my feelings.
