Gee this also happened with jaden animations I think...it’s super weird how people are comfortable thinking about creators in ridiculous hyper sexualized poses, drawing them and posting on the internet.
I’ve made nsfw art but REFUSE to make it of real people and ocs if the creator of that oc is not comfortable with it. My nsfw art is reserved only for my ocs, fictional characters that are above age, and ocs that are approved be lewded by their creators. Nsfw should be handled with care, as silly as that sounds, and should not be used to make others uncomfortable. I’m sorry you had this terrible experience, Thumin.
@@emartin29 they are essentially the same, but a fictional character would be a well known one from a piece of (mostly professional) media, while an OC would be an OC someone who is maybe not deemed too important would make. That’s how I see it anyways
@@emartin29they are the same thing. But the creators of fictional character are not easily reachable since they are pretty well known. But oc creators are more easily accessible and reachable and people tend to develop friendships with them.
Heres a story... i have a friend {Shes 13 btw} And she was drawn like this...she was crying and sobbing.. the fact that it was drawn by her ex best friend is the worst thing ever ☹
Thats so fricking horrible that fact that its not only done to adults who doesnt consent and is obviously uncomfortable but done to children and minors i litterally want to throw up on how people abuse r34 to their liking to hate and bully a certain creator or a person i hope ur friend is alright❤
Tell her to sue. You could probably make a case against it since she's underaged and it could count as emotional harassment and abuse. I'm not a lawyer or a law student by any means, but I'm sure you can get the ex friend in trouble
even if people stuck to fictional characters, people still take it too far by using said character's trauma, adult x minor, inc3st. like- people have no boundaries and its horrible
@@mrmagnamalo7864 The fact that many nsfw artists are not willing to take accountable or take criticism for their actions even though they support freedom of expression (when they're only talking for themselves and not for everybody else) is just disgusting.
As someone who enjoys nsfw content, I've never liked the idea of rule 34 and the precedent it sets of having nsfw drawn of everything, regardless of the original creator's consent. It just spreads a horrible mindset that throws others' feelings completely out the window, and that's nothing but disgusting to me.
@@baphometbby There are some laws in place such as CSEM- which says that drawings of underage people whether real or fiction IS punishable by law. I don’t know how many times someone has been arrested though it has happened.
Rule 34 has always being a big fear and problem for me as an artist and character creator. It’s has always being such a danger zone for me to showcase or present my original characters in the internet knowing well the horrible people that dwells in this bast ocean of the cyber space and art community and cartoon community in this place. I hate it so much and it enraged me so much when content creators like you, Jaiden animations and others alike recibe such disgusting nsfw without any consent or permission. They just feel entitled to something so disturbing like this.
Exactly!! Like I want to share my original characters aswell! But if people find attractions towards those characters and choose too go too far by making porn of them ESPECIALLY AFTER I ASK YOU NOT TOO then I’m not gonna share them. So I understand why you fear it because it can be really overwhelming and stressful
I'm always quite worried about that too. the fact that their moto is if it exists there is probably corn of it worries me to the core- while I know it probably wont happen to me, It still makes me hesitant to post my art-
Disclaimer: sexualised art of real people is horrible and in my opinion, should be prohibited by law. That being said, why exactly would artists who draw fictional characters engaded in sex ever need to be excused from it? As long as they tag it properly and their audiences are properly forewarned, what's wrong with it? Sex is a very fundamental, very human thing to the point that most of us wouldn't be here without it (and the rest's conception still had a lot to do with it), and depicting it shouldn't need extra justification.
@@mateuszjokiel2813 Imo, it depends on who they're drawing. If it's their own original character or a licensed character it's okay as long as they're an adult. If it's someone else's OC, they need permission from the OC's owner first. If it's a minor character ABSOLUTELY NOT!
Cry more, ppl are degenerates and I love it🤮 .it is so amusing and traumatising at the same time 💀. Remember ppl need to make money for uni or college but …….
Rule 34 was meant as a joke, making fun of how people seemed to feel the need to lewd anything. Sadly Poe's law is in full effect and people who lewd real people who haven't consented tend to act like Schrodinger's douchebag, effectively hiding behind the excuse of not being serious whenever they are called out.
@@redfoxbennaton I don't recall saying anything about addiction. This is gonna be a long one so you can stop here if you don't want to read this. Addiction is built on the over consumption of something, which is only zero in very select instances of being destructive to your health in any dose. I was referencing the production of porn, and in this case the desire to explore lewd things in media that is familiar. Hence the willingness to lewd anything being a meme. The only time porn would be considered destructive enough to call any consumption too much is when you see it as something that is harmful to your spiritual or mental health. Even that is not the same thing as addiction, which is compulsive consumption.
I personally draw nsfw, but the idea of creating that kind of work of a character the creator expressly says they don't want made is abhorrent to me. I don't just see it as a morality issue, but a compassion issue. how disgusting do you have to be of a person to cross a pretty serious boundary like that? there's a reason why I request proof of permission for a character's use in any work, not just for spicier works. I'm so sorry that you've been experiencing this for so long now. I can only hope that it dies down at the very least.
It’s not really abhorrent. There are actual people dealing with real problems. This is just what happens. Once it’s out there, you can’t take your work back.
@@baphometbby This reminds me of the people who will invalidate someone's depression by being like "You have no reason to be sad, someone out there always has it worse than you." 💀

You know- this whole situation makes me think of Septiplier. Neither Mark nor Seán liked having NSFW art of them out there. It hurt their friendship, their own relationships, and it hurt themselves. Even when they asked people to stop, it still continued. I dont mind nsfw art, but when someone, a real person, says to not make NSFW of them, I dont understand why that's so hard to understand. Sorry you're going through this Thumin, I hope something can be done. And happy birthday!
I'm so glad you brought this up, it's honestly the first example that popped into my head when replying to a different comment. People either don't understand or don't care about the damage it does.
Luckilty though (and this dosent make it any less bad, but) i think they've gotten over it and are still good friends, but it's heartbreaking to think that it might not be the same anymore, if they just *werent* targetted, maybe they would be happier, but we dont know them personally so i cant say much.
@@cloudjelly97 It came up in one of jacks videos recently. They have NOT gotten over it, the damage is permanent, and he basically has an immediately severe disgust reaction often seen in PTSD. He laughs it off, but anyone who watches him regularly can see he's faking it. It has been FACTUALLY STATED by both Jack and Mark that 'septiplier' outright harmed their relationship, in many ways permanently. And the reality is, It's s*xual harassment. He and Mark both have every right to be upset - forever, even.
The worst part is it's virtually uncontrollable. JaidenAnimations in particular had to make a statement and just accept complacency in the face of her avatar being defiled thousands of times. She can't do anything about it, just try to ignore it. It's a hopeless struggle.
Rule 34 is a term that came from the group called the Patriotic Nigras of 4chan (and Something Awful), I don't think they care considering they were racist, sexist and a bunch of trolls. It's like trying to control real life rape, it's criminal but it's gonna keep happening. That said we can do what we can to encourage people to realise it's not desirable as some people don't realise, especially younger people.
I’ve actually been lewded by a community member of a discord sever before when I was 14, it was my ponysona which looks like me, and they drew her humanized being r worded. Anyone who uses the internet can have this happen and that’s why I completely hate rule34, it shouldn’t even be a thing. But that’s probably because I’m low key traumatized from that.
Another sex repulsed ace here, one of my character’s design is so simple that anybody could make rule 34 out of it, and I’m just terrified of that thought, I know that it’s the internet and I can’t stop anybody from making R34 of my oc’s unless I don’t show it, but at least go ask the artist if they consent to this kind of stuff, or read their bio or heck, if they’re a minor don’t draw it at all!
As a nsfw artist myself I always do a lot of research if I’m drawing someone’s online persona, like a v tuber or something else of that nature. The last thing I want my art to do is to give someone anxiety or hurt them. There’s some artists I’ve seen who seem to focus on drawing p*rn of irl people just for shock value, which is just sad I mean talk about a waste of talent.
Yeah like, that's why I just don't do real life people like, at all. I don't like it, they don't (usually) like it, so why bother? I'd just rather make art of corporate characters that I can relate with my audience through. Like, "FINALLY someone else thinks this character was hot." I care waaay less about pissing off a multimillion dollar corporate entity than I do a normal person just trying to make characters they enjoy.
Honestly, let’s not even call this “nsfw” or r34 This is sexual harassment. People should be losing their damn jobs and internet access for shit like this if I’m perfectly honest. If you’re reading this and you think making explicit art of REAL PEOPLE without their consent is fine or “free speech” you are fucked. Please get help or have a very violent run in with the nearest biker gang.
Thank you so much for making this video Thumin and thank you for asking if you could include my situation in this video before you did so. I've been dealing with this kind of garbage since I was 16 and it's seriously messed me up. I know a lot of people are just gonna say: It's just art or it's not even real it's just on the internet. And all I have to say to that is- is abuse not real if it's only verbal? You haven't actually gotten hit? Why are you complaining about it? (Obviously the answer is no, verbal abuse is still abuse and can be just as damaging as physical abuse) It's hard to express to people how horrifying it is to know there are people out there who just see you as a piece of meat that they want a bite of. Especially for a 16 year old. Everything from my race(I'm Asian), to my trauma to my fucking mental illnesses have been sexualized to the high heavens with a whole community of people discussing what they want to do to me. And at this point? It's terrifying to think about what might happen to me if somehow my face did get leaked to those freaks. It's made me so paranoid about IRL interactions that I've not talked to a stranger past basic courtesies for 2 years now. And I thought it would get better with time but it's only gotten worse as my viewership has increased. The person who runs that fake Twitter account was either a former Patron or knew someone who was my Patron because one of those pieces they posted of my art was a Patreon exclusive post. And to know I had someone that disgusting possibly have a line of direct contact to me only further solidified my paranoia. For anyone still reading, I'm alright. I have someone I can talk and rant to when it gets too much and I'm looking into how to start healing from the toll this has taken on my mental health. I appreciate your concern but please don't worry too much about me. And again, thank you so much Thumin for making this video. It must have taken a lot of courage to do so and I genuinely applaud you for going about this in such a calm and collected manner.
I hope you're having a good day Stream 🥺🫂 reading and discovering what happened to you just really hits close to home. As I was stalked and harrassed by an incel who also sexualizes Asian and even sexualized me when raiding a personal discord server I had.
I think the dark part of R34 is absolutely disgusting. I had to open emergency commissions once because my family couldn't afford groceries. I had to draw WAY to much NSFW art of artists I didn't know were not ok with it. I got so many DMs that after I was able to afford groceries I deleted that account. I no longer do any NSFW art no matter the situation.
Being a primarily NSFW Artist, even I get uncomfortable about NSFW art of real people. It's a line that needs to be drawn, especially within the art circles I and other NSFW artists are a part of. Sexual art of fictional adult characters is fine, but drawings of irl creators is a big no no. A lot of the artists I knew that were drawing Jaiden a couple months back have since stopped, so we're definitely improving, but art of other creators needs to be called out as well. It's a disgusting practice that does effect real people, and there is absolutely no need for it.
@@shootingsmilla1239many NSFW artists have hard rules and draw the line on certain things. Usually though it's male artists that cross the boundaries which gives the rest of us a bad name.

You can even grab colors from that image, to remove that box you just hit the X in the corner ^^ Yeah, very random and nothing to do with the video but I thought you'd be interested in that nvn"
In my opinion, NSFW art is perfectly okay when it follows the boundaries. I hate R34 because it oversteps those boundaries. Especially if it’s r34 of real people. I’m so sorry that happened to you
I mean You can't even look at a cartoon you onced liked wihout risking traumatizing your self with the realization it has been sexualized I liked my little ponny once(not to say i like girly things, i just found the action and emotional baggage in it intresting) But now i can't search for memes of it( or anithing i like) wihout getting mentaly flash banged with a lewd image or tumbnail. Its expecialy bad for me as a christian since it made me fall into a addiction for it, and im still trying to get out of it. (Pluz i fear that once my sister and i made the characters we are thinking of, we won't be able to share it with people wihout risking being deformed by the people of r34) Seriously,END IT!
NSFW art isnt made out of pure h0rn!ness from the creator, most NSFW artists create it because they just like drawing b00ba or want to extend their abilities in anatomy, stuff like that, and that's perfectly okay! You draw whatever you want to draw, no matter what it is. Whats NOT okay is sexualizing REAL people, especially underage minors. Thats overstepping the boundary and just wrong. Making it available to minors is also messed up, if you're an nsfw artist and you deliberately make it accessible to minors, that's disgusting, wrong, and potentially *illegal.*
thank you so much for talking about this and bringing awareness to the issue. the more i hear about how much you, stream, and so many other creators have had to deal with in this regard breaks my heart, and i’m so sorry for everything you’ve gone through. it’s disgusting and so far beyond disappointing to be reminded time and time again that there are no lines some people won’t cross, nothing they won’t sexualize and weaponize - but the best we can do is stick together, bring awareness, and support each other through it, which is exactly what you’ve done with this video, despite the way r34 artists will inevitably end up using it against you. so thank you ❤️💙 the community feels like a better, safer, kinder place with people like you in it.
People “get away” with it for the same reason people aren’t arrested for posting fan art on the internet. It’s not possible to make something like this a criminal offense without.... ethics of that being heavily... questionable. Unfortunately you just have to not look at it if you don’t like it, and don’t get too emotional about it. It’s something anyone who makes public art should be aware of. Those are the risks of being an artist in general. People can do what they want with your work. Once it’s public it’s out there. If someone can’t emotionally handle it, they shouldn’t post their art anywhere
Unfortunately you aren’t wrong. There is another rule of the internet, rule 49: no matter what it is, it is always someone’s fetish. Meaning that wether it’s an innocent person/animal, abused to death by all kinds of torture, self harm/killing theirself ,literal serial killers, there is some strange “person” getting kinky over it. Trust me, I’m disgusted too
I tried DMing you on Twitter, but it wasn't letting me for some reason, so I'd like to say something here. I know you probably won't see this, but I would like to sincerely thank you for bringing attention to the problems that Rule34 brings to the internet. While I don't have a large platform on TH-cam or Twitter, I do often post original stories on Wattpad, some of which have gained some traction. I was thrilled to see that my writing was starting to take off, as it's something I've always been very passionate about, but as my stories gained more and more traction, I got more and more DM's requesting NSFW work of my original characters. I pour a great deal of myself into my characters, and considering the fact that I'm a minor, it's very uncomfortable and sometimes downright terrifying to have to decline these requests, sometimes more than once to the same person. It doesn't help that my stories don't even have NSFW scenes, and that most of my characters are, you guessed it, minors. So thank you, SERIOUSLY thank you for raising awareness, because it's honestly becoming unbearable.
honestly i hate the idea that "you should just ignore it" we don't do that with anything else. has anyone ever thought that maybe the reason you can't do anything about it is because you already have that mindset, like yeah i get there will always be rule 34 of people, but there will also always be racist people but you don't see anyone saying you should let that go
Reality is complex We have wishful thinking that this won’t happen any longer but some people won’t change despite peoples efforts That’s all there is to it and we can’t do much about that That’s why a lot of people say to Ignore
Here’s the way I’ve always thought about it: yes, it will always exist. The point isn’t to get rid of every single piece including it, it’s to not normalize it. Do not normalize it’s creation, let people know that this isn’t a normal or good thing to be making art of.
"Smexy" stuff is difficult to avoid on the internet. It exists and we can't do much about it. However, there has to be a line somewhere. No matter the person, I believe they also have a limit. As mentioned, if it's of minors, used as revenge korn (Heavy metal corn) on other people, and when certain creators don't consent to it. It's even worse when it's korn of a person that went through trauma, and they make korn of that trauma to harass them. It's disgusting. A friend of mine, another content creator, had disgusting r34 made of her. Transphobic as hell too. She even made a video telling people she doesn't want people making r34 of her or her artsona. It actually upsets me more if it's korn of my friends who don't consent to it. It's really hard to ignore this and having people say "It's not real, so who cares?" There is a line that can be crossed by many people when it comes to r34. I have no problem with "smexy" art as long it's not of minors, no revenge korn, not racist/sexist/transphobic/etc, and there's consent from creators. I also feel bad for the artists that were used and lied to into making such horrid art pieces. I do hope they're okay and learned from the experience. I also hope they recover from whatever obstacle is in their way, and they can manage to progress from it. Greatly appreciated that you talked about this, Thumin. The topic is controversial (In a way) and complexed to the point people justify the disturbing and disgusting korn pieces as "Fictional. It's just art. It's not real and won't hurt the person in either way". It will and does hurt the person if people use those pieces to harass other creators that are not comfortable or consenting to it. Stay safe, Thumin. You are beautiful and talented. Keep kicking ass.
THANK YOU! i hate it when people say that “its fictional so its harmless” argument. everything you interact with WILL have an effect on you. and for someone to ignore basic common sense to ignore their own guilt disgusts me.
Even if it is a fictional character if its in a kids show, doesnt have anything to do with this type of content or the creator has specifically stated they dont want their character drawn in that way, then its not okay. Even if it isnt a persona or a real human its still wrong to draw a fictional character in that way without the agreement of the creator.
@@Ozzy622 Sadly.. most of them do this cause they need to attract viewers in order to get their income, but that doesn't justify their actions at all. Also oxygen?! Nah, we're screwed, don't they think their taking this too far? 💀
learned something new today from this video, it's that people commission artists to make questionable art and lying that they have permission, and then use that questionable art to hurt creators, that sucks.
Ok I hear your opinion, and i respect it's yours but seriously you couldn't be more wrong, at all For one they don't necessarily have a choice what they draw as a majority comes down to commissions Second I'm going to be honest but at least 70% of these types of artists release things in quality that far surpasses a majority of content they are "harming" by their involvement Next I've seen dozens of really petty Safe for Work artists that cry the moment art of their avatar is not sanity, forget the fact If they did it themselves that's easily 72 hour task done for complete enjoyment alone and no actual value Next believe or not quite a few nsfw artists actually like doing Innocent art as well, at times doing both at the same time Lastly most highly respect people's feelings even when they get the short of the stick in every which way From account shutdowns, denied jobs in animation at all,to personal theats in their emails But alas all you do is "think of the children"
kinda relevant but a lot of kpop fans have this exact problem, where they keep shipping friends they do not care *at all* about how the idols actually feel and it’s shocking lol
I know this stuff is sickening but don't let it stop you from doing what you love. Ya got a voice that's worth sharing, skill that's worth cultivating and a perspective many will find interesting.
Another few victims of rule 34 are Tommyinnit, Tubbo, and Ranboo are people who asked specifically not be drawn like this or is underage.itsfunneh and her siblings, are family a friendly group of channels that often get s[_______]ed with each other and with their fictional characters that are also 17 or under. Lastly another kid friendly creator Aphmau and her friends are drawn s[______]ed and I have a theory that she tried to express that she was not okay with it back in a 2018 role-play video when she said “ look, you can ship all the fictional characters you want, just not real people.”
I am an NSFW artist and I like making NSFW art but I know where there is a line you shouldn't ever cross. Especially when it come to real life people and their OC/Persona's. Spicy art will always exists but knowing that it's an actual person just feels wrong in so many levels. Also when it comes from people or characters that doesn't even remotely have anything sexual about them or consented to the making of it. I've been on the internet long enough to understand it maybe fiction, but the morality of it will sometimes never be there I'm so sorry you had to experience something as hateful and very disheartening as this, especially with antis wanting nothing but a downfall to someone they never met
There should always be ethics in NSFW content. Me and my friends ship our ocs together and I will always ask for consent, even if I write or draw them even if there is no spice involved. I don't feel comfortable doing anything with their ocs without my friend's knowledge or consent.
First it was racism all because of an amazing drawing you made, now this???? I feel disgusted in these kinds of people, I am horribly sorry about all of this stuff happening to you and other content creators on TH-cam! You are amazing! I love your drawings and commentary!
I've always been repulsed by real person shipping. Even when I ship characters played by actors, shipping the actors themselves is so disgusting to me.
It’s valid, honestly it’s disgusting how far some people will go to do stuff to please themselves. Though I plan on continuing my path towards being a TH-camr I know that will happen to me in future if I choose to continue. But I’d rather have people ask consent before actually doing artwork in explicit ways. But since I’m still a minor right now and I’m still going on, it’s still a dream I want to be someone others can look up to, but also help guide others. I feel bad that TH-camrs go through this, but I admire how some of them have the strength to carry on, everyone’s feelings are valid, even TH-camrs. Though some people don’t see it, creators have their struggles to. I hope your doing well, and I hope you have a good day, night, or evening.
I’m so sorry that this happens to you and other people. The way u are handleling this so calmly is just amazing but please just remember that your art is amazing and these people don’t/shouldn’t matter:)
I’m a minor who’s always wanted to make art content on the Internet to share my talent with other people, but now… I’m kinda scared to do that because of r34. It makes me feel sick to the stomach and makes me question if I really want to post my persona and other characters of mine online…🙁
Don't let that stop you, if you want to share arts with others than feel free to do it but there clearly needs to be a line between fiction and reality and knowing it's existence is key Not excusing this shit but the best to avoid this is by simply not looking at it and mentioning it and it's pretty easy since it comes down to Twitter and the rule 34 sites. Plus being an artist comes with other problems than porn such as death threats, dissrespeful comments, tracing and other stuff. You just need to know it's simply an image
Can we talk about how this(to my knowledge)almost exclusively happens with female creators? Edit: I think R34, as well as the general culture of NSFW art communities online, has made it easy, or easier, for NSFW artists to dodge criticism. Saying NSFW is bound to happen, inevitably, impossible to prevent or stop like a force of nature has given creators who want to draw whatever they want an excuse and a shield from criticism. "You think I shouldn't draw porn based on a real person who doesn't like being sexualized? You think I shouldn't draw porn based on a kids' show and put it on a website where that minors use? Come on, prude, it's the internet. Everyone is making art like that." And many corners of the internet just enable that by adopting an "everything is fine, everything is acceptable", no consequences, no rules policy. NSFW art and fan art isn't bad, but there needs to be rules. Don't sexualize real people without their consent or in a way they would object to, make sure your porn is on adult websites, don't put your masturbation session over other people's dignity and comfort.
@@axelling_atk i understand a child lying about their age to get youtube, but twitter? what could they possibly want on twitter? it just doesn't make sense to me.
Bro, when you said that there is a user sharing 'corn' of streamline with her abuser, I wanted to fucking gag. Thats so gross dude!!! Rule34 really just spreads the mindset of like "yeah we know its wrong but hey, its the internet, its gonna exist", and normalizes making art of minors and real people who didn't consent to it, like its so ughhhh.. I am so sorry this happened to you Thumin :(
Even though I draw and consume NSFW art, it's disgusting af to me whenever someone explicitly states that they don't want r34 drawn of them or their characters and ppl do it anyway. Someone being uncomfortable with being sexualized/having their characters sexualized should be treated more seriously than a dumb internet "rule"
Spicy fanart is fine if it's done with (legally aged) fictional characters. I've always found r34 of real people to be creepy, though. I think it should count as sexual harrasment tbh.
For some of the people who are saying "it doesn't matter because they're not actually experiencing it." Actually they are, online sexual abuse exists and for those who are already sa survivors and are depicted this way (let alone with bad intent), how do you expect them to react? Not to mention she's literally harassed with the art, sooo... yeah.
These “artists” never want to take accountable. I side with media companies who take down NSFW art who happen to have ips from them because I see it as a way to prevent porn addiction.
I was a minor when I found twitter, I went down a rabbit hole of 18+ audios and art. I haven’t used it since. The further I went, the heavier my heart got. I’be made characters I want to use in stories and eventually start my own channel with them, but not if it means people will use their trauma to gratify themselves. I know it’s inevitable, which is why I’m glad my parents didn’t let me have social media as a kid. They’re right, It’s a dangerous place where horrible people do horrible things. TH-cam is the only form of social media I use now, I normally don’t comment unless I’ve thought it through. You are an inspiration for me, and the reason I decided to try improving my art so that I could in fact post it somewhere.
Thank you Thumin for talking about this💜 The topic alone is something most wish to ignore or pretend it doesn't exist.. As always, keep up the amazing work💞
Rule 34 being used to harass people feels like the exact opposite of what rule 34 is supposed to be doing. Rule 34 was never about... Making people feel disgust. Like, it's no longer rule 34 at the point it becomes a turn-off for the majority of people, right? If you pick some character from a cartoon or something and make a lewd of it, but then making sure the show's creator sees it to upset them specifically it's, um... It's not for the fap anymore, and anyone could see that it's not for the fap, and becomes just a piece of art nobody likes... Right? I don't even know if that makes sense anymore, but something about it just isn't lining up in my mind. It wouldn't make it less icky if it *WAS* exclusively for someone's fantasy since you don't consent, but at least it would make more sense...
If you don't know about it fine, but have you heard of stuff like "degradation" or "NTR"? Again, if you don't, good on you, but the main idea is precisely to cause a sense of disgust in whoever is seeing it. Why? Idk, people are weird. The more time passes, more I learn that some people can go really deep down in the weird scale, and there's very little we can do about that
@@sparking023 No, I know about it, but it's different when it's brought out of the realm of "I want art made to cater to this using X characters" and pushed on someone that really isn't in the equation at all. It's like someone going "I want to screw this celebrity, so I tracked them down and forced myself on them" than "I want to screw this celebrity, so I commissioned an artist to lewd them" territory.
@@YourWaywardDestiny eh, it only adds insult to injury. Not only is the person being lewded not giving their permission, the ones commissioning it do so in a way that devalues their image. R34 as-is already has a "dark" side, so the fact irl people are targeted with it with malicious intent is just another sad, weird part of it
I have a series I made and i’m so scared that my characters will have fan art of Rule 34. I’m so glad that you talked about this because I would have no idea on what to do at all if I ever got art that was Rule 34
I recommend putting a disclaimer that you do not want rule 34 in either the credits of the episodes or the back of the book depending on if it's a show or book
This really needs to be talked about more. My ex friend who manipulated and was horrible to me constantly repeatedly sent me the infamous rule 34 ahnka video and other rule 34 and nsfw stuff knowing i hated it and it made me incredibly uncomfortable. Rule 34 needs to be discussed more in ways to stop it
It’s sad because there just are people who generally don’t care. You can try to tell them that doing this to children and people who don’t consent is wrong and they will just have a go at you and bring their friends who believe the same thing to harass you.
Those same people say that’s it just fanart. In reality, they don’t care about the real people they’re harassing and exploiting them for money. And then when someone criticizes them, they just say “it’s the internet.”
This is coming from someone that frequently does nsfw kink-related content- Personally, I hate how normalized the idea of sexually harassing, abusing or grooming someone has become online. I hate seeing so many people suffer from comparable problems, from people who refuse to respect personal boundaries for the sake of their own pleasure, or intentionally defy them in order to make the person in question feel unsafe or upset. It's absolutely fucking abysmal that so many people get it into their heads that it's okay to sexualize people because "it's the internet" or "it's inevitable." I also think this stems from how sexualized celebrities and other public figures get, like you mentioned early on in the video. Some people seem to think that because you're more widely known, that means it's completely okay to sexualize and make pornography out of you without your consent. The fact some people specifically go out of their way to target someone's traumas or emotional scars in these works is especially disturbing, and the part where you mentioned Streamline Workshop being drawn with their groomer especially enrages me as someone who's dealt with sexual abuse and grooming in the past, and it struck a chord with me hard because I KNOW people can be that cruel, sneaky and disgusting. I do commissioned nsfw pieces, and through that my abuser attempted to sneakily get me to draw one of his characters by having his friend come to me with it instead. For context, this is someone I'd officially broken contact with around a year ago, and I'd made it very clear on multiple occasions that I want nothing to do with him. And yet, he lacks morals to such a degree that he'd attempt to deceive me into drawing porn of his character- something that would undoubtedly be emotionally triggering for me- for his own personal gratification. Luckily, I was able to see through it, and informed the friend that he had abused me in the past and that he was being manipulated, then refunded him in full. (The friend, who paid for the piece.) I think that experience shows just how gross and immoral some of these people can be. I'm genuinely sorry you've had to deal with this kind of issue, and I'm sorry to anyone else who's been exploited like this. In my eyes, it's completely unacceptable.
Oh my gosh.. This is beyond the line of how disgusting people are commissioning other artists to draw other popular artists/creators or just anyone. I am so, so sorry you are dealing with this, Thumin. Rule 34 was created after many problems in the past. I remember studying about this topic. Also, people should NEVER, EVER take anyone's characters without their consent and even so they asked not to, people just don't care. It's really sad to see all of this side of the media targeting anybody for no reason. Please continue to keep yourself safe online and continue being a great person every single day. I enjoy your work and your words reaching out to everyone keeping those safe. Thank you for this video, much love to you and the other victims. 🙏🏽🍵💚💚
You sacrificed possibly having to deal with more of this so even though I can't support you as much as I would want to, here ya go. I hope this money gives you a few things to snack on at least
Even Minors aren't safe I was just searching for my favorite character in a show and scroll down I saw R34 of it I'm quite upset because THEIR children And it makes me uncomfortable that they do that crap fictional or not their still children People make these without consent (For the real people that had been involved) This makes me uncomfortable as a minor and a mini artist. Gosh the internet is scary.
some people are just twisted. when i was about 13-14, i had an online "friend" who wrote sexual fanfiction about me and a classmate which inevitably destroyed our friendship because i could never see him in the same way again. i'm all for rule 34 and even dabble in drawing it- as long as it doesn't cross someone's personal boundaries. that includes creating lewd art of someone or sending lewd art to someone who doesn't consent.
It's so disappointing to know that people disregard the feelings of others and their boundaries because they want to get a response from content creators. You deserve better than that! Also, Happy Birthday!! I hope you had a wonderful day since you deserve it!
so, I draw NSFW works. One of my biggest rules is that the person commissioning must own all the characters involved or I must have verbal agreement from the other person; I must hear from their mouth that they want this kink art of their OC. I do not do gift NSFW or kink stuff. I back-check to make sure they own the OC; and have a whole landry list of things that are automatic rejections on my end. I don't know how desperate one has to be to make White-supremacist kink trash but I could never do such a thing; I'll physically sell my organs or IRL photos for the right price or desperasion, but hurting those that are vulnerable or opressed is always going to be a no go for me. I wish others that the same kind of spine.
Rule 34 is fucking terrifying, I think it makes up most of my fears with sharing my ocs publicly. That if I share my ocs, someone COULD draw them in a compromising situation and share it around without my consent :( I’m really sorry that happened to you, best wishes!
The sadder thing is when I when to check, people were finding it "hot" and asking "what show is she from" which is really sad. Thumin you don't deserve this
R34 is disgusting in general, especially when it happens to real people. I’m really sorry this happen to you. Edit: Ok I’ve gotten further into the video and... just wow. Some ppl are just really disgusting assholes. I can’t talk can find the words. Thumin, I am so sorry this is happening to you. This is NOT fair or ok in the slightest
I reported the account you posted in the video, praying that something will be done. Thank you for being so brave and speaking up about this. The internet needs more people like you.
@Bluejay Productions I thought there was only one but i'm also really forgetful. I'll rewatch in the morning and report all the other ones she said to!
Thumin, I‘m so sorry that that happened to you! I still remember the racism you had to face regarding your beautiful artworks. This is so disturbingly disgusting and I cannot wrap my head around how some people cannot leave artists alone especially black artists. I admire your strength to speak up! It opens my eyes how much worse the racism in the art/TH-cam community is than I thought.
This is why I hate Rule 34. Sometimes I and my friends are just scrolling for fanart of a character from a fandom then we suddenly come across NSFW fanart and it just disturbs and disgusts us. What's even worse is that people make NSFW of fictional characters that are underage. It's disgusting.
i sadly went through the same thing ;; there was these group of people bullying a friend of mine and because me and him were friends they involved me... and when we were minors (these were adults btw who knew we were minors, we were like 16-17 years old ) they drew p*rn of our OC's... even though we never dated, all that just to spite him, which was disgusting.. im sorry you had to go through that thumin ;; its sickening people are doing this to spite you, don't let these weirdos get to your skin. i hope you had a good birthday dear, you will have my support always
I couldn't do much about this,i'm sorry. As a minor,i'll be more cautious with this type of stuff(since i did get sexually harassed with r34). And I think it's really gross how people use a kink/fetish to justify the messed up stuff they draw. We wish for the best of you,Miss Thumin. And you have a good fanbase to love you. Also, happy birthday
I am an artist, and this is probably the thing I've never considered would happen to my characters. It's surprisingly scary in a way. I would never want my characters to be drawn in sexual positions, let alone in rule 34. It's just soo... disgusting.
Bro.....I truly don't understand why people are upset when someone says don't draw YOUR character in NSFW art. That character belongs to you, you made them and own them. Hell yeah, you have the right to gatekeep and have boundaries. Certain if the NSFW is used to be hateful and harass others. It's not even about freedom or art expression at this point. It's not about sensorship either. It's about being an asshole and making others uncomfortable Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.
Less than an hour ago I wanted to be a TH-camr when I become an adult but after watching this the thought terrifies me. Just the thought that if I say that I’m a victim of CSA or that I’m transgender there are people out their who will use it in a way that hurts me and people like me because it makes them feel a certain way makes me feel disgusting. Thanks for bringing this to light, I truly appreciate it. I wish you and everyone else in a similar situation the best. I hope things get better but I lost hope for humanity when I was even more of a kid (I’m 16 rn). I don’t know what to do with this world. I don’t know how dark this sounds but I’m not going to do anything to myself or anyone else, I can promise you that. Again I wish you all the best❤️ (And thanks for reading this comment)
Happy Belated Birthday, Thumin!! I love watching your content. I admire how in spite of the harassment you endure you cover topics like this, exposing the awful parts of the internet and warning unaware viewers of their existence. You do great things and I appreciate you and your work :) Also, your art is cute and I love the color pallets you use. Lovely art 💕
as someone who wants to create games, mods for games, etc. with their own characters, the one fear i have with posting them on the internet is the idea that people out there are going to make extremely concerning content of the characters i made stuff for and associate them with said content for as long as they exist on the internet without paying attention to whatever else the character has "oh, but they're fictional characters! they aren't real, so it doesn't hurt anyone, right?" no. it hurts me to think of people straight up OBJECTIFYING the things i put my entire heart into making it hurts me to think that people out there are going to ignore all the other things about that character and see them as another thing to fuel their weird fantasies in fact, the whole idea will genuinely make me feel unsafe even a joke about them will scare me to bits goddamn
It's gross that this happens and is still happening. I'm so sorry you experienced that, Thumin. Edit: I personally don't mind NSFW content, but there's a line need to drawn and it's sickening ppl refuse to understand that. They probably get off on the feeling of making ppl feel powerless. Idk I'm really mad that ppl including the minor mention are being treated like this. Literally no remorse.
I don't really have anything against NSFW content itself if people put proper trigger warnings and make sure it's not easily accessable to minors. I've done some NSFW works before myself - both art and stories - but I always make sure to put proper trigger warnings and set my artworks to be hidden from people under 18 (my NSFW art is really nothing that extreme, mostly just naked people or people wearing underwear/swimwear in non-erotic settings). Some NSFW artworks portray kinks that really aren't my cup of tea (like anything with feet or very big characters with tummy rolls) and I myself would never do NSFW content of any real life people, but if those portrayed kinks aren't necessarily harmful to a specific individual and if the portrayed real life people have given their consent to be presented in such a way, that is still fine with me. However, it gets problematic whenever NSFW content is made of real life people who haven't given their consent and don't want to be portrayed in any way that dehumanizes or fetishizes them. Doing NSFW content of someone's persona or OC's is only ok if the original creator gives their consent. Like you said, there's nothing anyone can really do to prevent NSFW content from being made, but I just wished people were a bit more mindful what, who and how exactly they portray their NSFW content. I'm very sorry you have to deal with that kind of stuff all the time. But just know that you're a great artist and I hope you can stand above it somehow. Happy late birthday ^^💕
This reminds me of how I was harassed by someone for an entire year. They drew nsfw of me harassed me on different accounts, stole my identity/pretended to be me, traced my art/stole it, and tried to frame me of using my friends for clout. I’m really happy you spoke up about this
r34 was unfortunately something i’d known about since i was in elementary school because i was searching up my little pony fan art on google and was mortified. r34 being so accessible and is pretty harmful in general imo, great video, my heart goes out to all of you who’ve been harassed through the means of r34.
Online anonymity is both a blessing and a curse, because on one hand you can express yourself in ways real life wouldn't allow you to, but on the other there are people who do horrific shit like this because they know there will be no real life consequences. My god, what is wrong with people? I'll always feel terrible that online figures who haven't consented to it experience this, but as if that weren't enough, the added harrassment and bigotry being sent your way is beyond disgusting. I'm sorry that people feel the need to take their hate so far :( I was unfortunately exposed to r34 at an early age as well (hooray for unsupervised internet access), and explicit content being so easy to find without looking for it has to be one of my least favorite things about growing up with the internet. I think its desensitized a lot of people and made them open to the idea of anything and everything being fair game as long as it's confined to an online space.
Is the R34 community as whole bad: No Is the portion of it that creates NSFW content of real people, minors, and characters that have been requested to not be luded bad: Yes. And thats final.

Porn addiction is no joke

Rule 34 is a term that came from the group called the Patriotic Nigras of 4chan (and Something Awful), I don't think they care considering they were racist, sexist and a bunch of trolls. It's like trying to control real life rape, it's criminal but it's gonna keep happening.

(Obviously the answer is no, verbal abuse is still abuse and can be just as damaging as physical abuse)
It's hard to express to people how horrifying it is to know there are people out there who just see you as a piece of meat that they want a bite of.
I'm glad that's over. Hope your family is doing well🙏
Being a primarily NSFW Artist, even I get uncomfortable about NSFW art of real people.

Reality is complex
We have wishful thinking that this won’t happen any longer but some people won’t change despite peoples efforts
That’s all there is to it and we can’t do much about that
That’s why a lot of people say to Ignore
Here’s the way I’ve always thought about it: yes, it will always exist. The point isn’t to get rid of every single piece including it, it’s to not normalize it. Do not normalize it’s creation, let people know that this isn’t a normal or good thing to be making art of.
@@rubyred6608760 that’s exactly how I feel

Those same people say that’s it just fanart. In reality, they don’t care about the real people they’re harassing and exploiting them for money. And then when someone criticizes them, they just say “it’s the internet.”
Thank you for bringing this topic back up Thumin! Keep up the good work!
This is coming from someone that frequently does nsfw kink-related content-
Personally, I hate how normalized the idea of sexually harassing, abusing or grooming someone has become online. I hate seeing so many people suffer from comparable problems, from people who refuse to respect personal boundaries for the sake of their own pleasure, or intentionally defy them in order to make the person in question feel unsafe or upset. It's absolutely fucking abysmal that so many people get it into their heads that it's okay to sexualize people because "it's the internet" or "it's inevitable."
I also think this stems from how sexualized celebrities and other public figures get, like you mentioned early on in the video.

And it makes me uncomfortable that they do that crap fictional or not their still children
People make these without consent
(For the real people that had been involved)
This makes me uncomfortable as a minor and a mini artist.
Gosh the internet is scary.
Same they even got that lil baby from loud house ruled 34 BRUH I JUST HATE THE INTERNET-

here's the thing minors shouldn't have unsupervised access to the internet at any given time
some people are just twisted. when i was about 13-14, i had an online "friend" who wrote sexual fanfiction about me and a classmate which inevitably destroyed our friendship because i could never see him in the same way again.
i'm all for rule 34 and even dabble in drawing it- as long as it doesn't cross someone's personal boundaries. that includes creating lewd art of someone or sending lewd art to someone who doesn't consent.
It's so disappointing to know that people disregard the feelings of others and their boundaries because they want to get a response from content creators. You deserve better than that!
Also, Happy Birthday!! I hope you had a wonderful day since you deserve it!
The fact that there is rule 34 of LITERAL CHILDREN is weird, and disgusting.
Real
Yeah. Sickening and vile it is.
This is exactly why i wish r34 never even existed.
so, I draw NSFW works.
Daily reminder that unless someone says they don't care, do not draw r34 of them. Another reminder: don't draw r34 of children or animals.
Rule 34 is fucking terrifying, I think it makes up most of my fears with sharing my ocs publicly. That if I share my ocs, someone COULD draw them in a compromising situation and share it around without my consent :(
I’m really sorry that happened to you, best wishes!
The sadder thing is when I when to check, people were finding it "hot" and asking "what show is she from" which is really sad.
Thumin you don't deserve this
Why the FUCK does nobody stand boundaries anymore????

Oh I'm so sorry this happened to your character! I would feel uncomfortable as well, I hope your feeling better! 😓
This is why I hate Rule 34. Sometimes I and my friends are just scrolling for fanart of a character from a fandom then we suddenly come across NSFW fanart and it just disturbs and disgusts us. What's even worse is that people make NSFW of fictional characters that are underage. It's disgusting.
i sadly went through the same thing ;;
there was these group of people bullying a friend of mine and because me and him were friends they involved me... and when we were minors (these were adults btw who knew we were minors, we were like 16-17 years old ) they drew p*rn of our OC's... even though we never dated, all that just to spite him, which was disgusting..
im sorry you had to go through that thumin ;;
its sickening people are doing this to spite you, don't let these weirdos get to your skin. i hope you had a good birthday dear, you will have my support always
We should build concentration and education camps for these degenerate r34 artists
norkie san and culture san are disgsuting hope they get banned
We should build concentration and education camps for these degenerate r34 artists
This is disgusting, I hope people become less disgusting REAL QUICK
I'm hoping with you, but real quick ain't gonna happen.
Again I wish you all the best❤️
(And thanks for reading this comment)
Happy Belated Birthday, Thumin!! I love watching your content. I admire how in spite of the harassment you endure you cover topics like this, exposing the awful parts of the internet and warning unaware viewers of their existence. You do great things and I appreciate you and your work :)
Also, your art is cute and I love the color pallets you use. Lovely art 💕
as someone who wants to create games, mods for games, etc. with their own characters, the one fear i have with posting them on the internet is the idea that people out there are going to make extremely concerning content of the characters i made stuff for and associate them with said content for as long as they exist on the internet without paying attention to whatever else the character has
"oh, but they're fictional characters! they aren't real, so it doesn't hurt anyone, right?"
no. it hurts me to think of people straight up OBJECTIFYING the things i put my entire heart into making
it hurts me to think that people out there are going to ignore all the other things about that character and see them as another thing to fuel their weird fantasies
in fact, the whole idea will genuinely make me feel unsafe
even a joke about them will scare me to bits goddamn
thank you THANK YOU , for addressing this, i just admire you for speaking out about this.
as an asexual, sex is overrated

This is disgusting, I'm glad you're speaking out about this
Online anonymity is both a blessing and a curse, because on one hand you can express yourself in ways real life wouldn't allow you to, but on the other there are people who do horrific shit like this because they know there will be no real life consequences. My god, what is wrong with people?
I'll always feel terrible that online figures who haven't consented to it experience this, but as if that weren't enough, the added harrassment and bigotry being sent your way is beyond disgusting. I'm sorry that people feel the need to take their hate so far :(
I was unfortunately exposed to r34 at an early age as well (hooray for unsupervised internet access), and explicit content being so easy to find without looking for it has to be one of my least favorite things about growing up with the internet. I think its desensitized a lot of people and made them open to the idea of anything and everything being fair game as long as it's confined to an online space.
Is the R34 community as whole bad: No
Is the portion of it that creates NSFW content of real people, minors, and characters that have been requested to not be luded bad: Yes.
And thats final.
R34 is just something we have to accept, BUT THERE ARE BOUNDARIES, AND YOU NEED CONSENT, AND NEEEEEVER R34 A MINOR
