I think Namco saw the success of Noctis in T7 they decided to bring a character similar to Noctis in T8. Instead of paying the license to have Noctis from Square, they'd rather create a new character who shares similar fighting style to Noctis.
@rumck that would be ridiculously expensive from the lawyers , the VA , Licensing fees and MOCAP and all of which would have to get paid first before anything else with Notics begins at all. The game already was in production before a release date was announced way ahead of time in secret. Also mind you Tekken 7 and 8 use 2 different Unreal Engines which provides a whole new set of major issues with that.

Like the MOCAP and VA part is already not an issue, because if Namco is able to afford an expensive actor like Vincent Cassel, who is pretty much a AAA Hollywood actor, then they're able to afford the Japanese VA that voices Noctis in 8. Or MOCAP stuff can happen during the DLC territory that the Tekken Team is creating. For the Lawyers part, I don't know exactly how it would work or why that would need to happen, but I don't see an issue about all the legal trouble, especially since they've done it before, and Namco has enough money to do so. Same goes with the Licensing Fees on Noctis for T8, which I feel like would be a bit more cheaper this time if they decide to bring Noctis back through DLC. And then in terms of the Unreal Engine, that's like every other character that has to go through re-modeling them from the ground up, and Noctis isn't any different from the 32 Characters of the Base Roster. So all in all, it's also still possible to bring Noctis back in T8, because Victor only has little to no moves from Noctis himself.
So far the best breakdown of the trailer. From the first glance you can tell Victor has similarities to Noctis, so there's no better man than PhiDX to explain the craziness that happens here)

I had a similar consensus, he has a ton of the Noctis aesthetics but gameplay wise just from what we've seen in this trailer it's looking more like Raven than anyone else which makes sense when his backstory is the founder of Raven's organization and is codenamed Phantom Raven. I don't know about the other Noctis players but if you enjoyed Raven from CBT then I think you already got your foot in the door of someone I think you'll enjoy maining in T8 Phi.
One thing I haven't really seen anyone point out is how much Negan there is in Victors' playstyle. My older brother mained Negan for quite a while, so I found myself seeing a lot of similar tools in Victors' kit, even if visually he much more closely follows Raven, Noctis and Kuni The super threatening stance moves, automatically advancing as part of stance transitions, and his power-crush kick looks like it might function similarly to negan's bat power-crush. Even some of the moves that seem heat exclusive look like juiced up versions of Negan's stance moves, like the way he steps side-on into that big explosion move.
I appreciate you kinda got weirdly pidgeonholed into looking at victor so much due to playing noctis, but really am thankful we got a top tekken analyst to cover Victor in this much detail!! Nearly every other youtuber out there is so mishima pilled LOL. I will watch any and all victor vids you got coming up

The more I look at him, the less I like him, design wise. It's as if someone asked an edgy middle-schooler how would they make a James Bond/John Wick character look cooler: give him a sword, of course! Now, I'm a big fan of swords mysef, but that thing does not fit his look at all, so I hope they include a customization option to give him a techno suit, or at least an option to customize the look of the sword to make it fit better. As of now, that shit sticks out like a sore thumb.

I thought after T7, we've seen the last of fucking swords, spears, dagger, baseball bat, etc but this guy Victor embodies EXACTLY what i hate about T7 DLC/guest characters, his entire gameplay is literally kuni/negan/noctis combined. It's such a let down too because i wanted to actually play him but as soon as i saw his gameplay, it's such a major turn off. @@gravekeepersven82pause. the man you’re speaking to is a Tekken specialist at the highest order and has multiple characters at the God or Gold level. It’s harder to deal with weapon based characters because you can’t low parry them and they usually create whiff punishment issues . Yoshi included.. he has a nice design but … he may prove problematic since you won’t be able to low parry him amongst other things.

He has too many weapons and I'm not talking abt his actual weapons but he has too many good moves. It's like they want him to be top tier. You can tell they put more money into him than any other character in the series. He looks expensive
this guy rankles people. i don't know when or how but there seems to be confusion about tekken. it's not vf and never has been. i hope they avoid guest characters. integrate ideas into the tekken world. don't just copy paste; it cheapens tekken.
