- After making a sideline reception during second quarter action, Cowboys wide receiver Drew Pearson gets body-slammed by Pittsburgh cornerback Ron Johnson near the Dallas bench. Flags fly. But before Johnson can get away scot-free, Dallas assistant coach Mike Ditka fires a pass off the back of Johnson's helmet, nearly sparking a fight between the two teams.
Pat Summerall and Tom Brookshier call the action from Three Rivers Stadium for CBS. Enjoy!
Mike Ditka needs to be in the Cowboy Ring of Honor
I remember watching football back then and just about all unsportsman/unnecessary roughness calls were nulled out due to retaliation - "penalties offset" was a common call...
Johnson liked to deliver cheap shots early in his career. I'd put my money on Ditka one on one.
The Steelers were good enough not to be dirty, or give that extra, this is a prime example of that. Ron Johnson you are a bastard.
If was jack lambert He would have kick ditka ass
Ditka Was The Man !
We always played them at home pre-season but regular always in PItt.
77, 79, 88 were in Pittsburgh. 69, 72, 82, 85 in Dallas. Noll vs Landry in the regular season
U dont even see him hit him
The Steelers had the Cowboys' number in the 1970s. They understood Dallas couldn't take a real physical beating, especially at the wide out position. Pittsburgh was willing to take penalties early, because they knew the Cowboys would get intimidated and end up with alligator arms. That's exactly what happened in this particular contest.
I am surprised no one was thrown out of the game. Typically they would have been thrown out.
This was the 1970's. Anything goes my friend
Ditka is awesome
The Cowboys Steelers matchups of the 70s were great battles. The Steelers were very good, physical but also dirty. The refs really goofed this one up.
Dorsett later knocked Johnson out of the game in a helmet to helmet collision.
Drew Pearson was the best receiver of the '70s. Not Swan, Stallworth or Branch.
Not a chance. Just watch SB XIII.
You can have Pearson, who is a legend in his own mind, I'll take Swann, Stallworth, Branch, and even Harold Jackson or Isaac Curtis, over him any day.
This was the 4th staight time that the Steelers beat them.Super 10 21-17,1977-30-14,Super Bowl 13 & this game 14-3 where Roger Staubach was was knocked out.Landry was 0-3 vs Chuck Noll in Three Rivers Stadium
Sadly
I may be wrong but when Dallas beat Pittsburgh in '85 it was the first time since '72 that the Cowboys beat them.
@@JayDogTitan-he6wo Thats right
I'd like to know who won and the date this was played?
1979 season, the Steelers won... that would be Staubach's last game, he would get hurt on an LC Greenwood sack...
@@mariogonzalez6330 his last game was against the Rams, the last pass he threw was to Herb Scott, an offensive lineman. I remember it well
@@agfan1 And I believe Staubach's last regular season game was that amazing comeback against the Redskins in '79.
What year was this?
Dean Gulberry Thank you!!
1979
@@crawford371 Thank you. Don’t know how I missed the year in the title. It was Week 9. The entire game is also on TH-cam. So many great players & coaches all gathered on that field that day. Thanks again. Whatever your team, good luck this season. 👍🍀
LOL
Ron Johnson should be in the hall of fame injury to his neck slowed him down, but he was a hitting DB !
Terrible call by the official on Pittsburgh - that was a clean football play.
It wasn't even a football play. Football is played on a football field.
